I was given a 6800gt pcie video card. It was running nice and the fan was spinning on it. While using the system one day the system locked up and started being stupid. I rebooted and then it came up like normal but it had the garbage effect all over it. I know fixing the card is going to be tricky if I even can fix it. I am running a sli board and have it's identical twin( I was going to run them in sli)
would I be able to install it in the second slot andm maybe flash teh firmware on it to bring it back to life?? any and all help on this would be appreciated.

I think you should try it out./...

Are the fans working correctly on it?

yeah the fans run i have checked the card for any burn/rust stuff like that and it's all good and clean. I put it in the second slot and booted up and the os just rebooted. My bad. I put the sli bridge on habit i guess. going to ust install it and hope for the best. i will try it and post the results

It's possible the PCI-E card had become 'loose'. Try reseating it and see how that works for you. If it doesn't work, try to find out what temp is it running, and if the card is using the original BIOS.

I have tried re seating the card in both slots. Also I haven't oced it at all. completely stock. yeah i rebooted the comp ant then everything went to garbage. So iI am going to try and flash the firmware tomorrow morn and if that dont work then the card is prolly borked.

Seems like it.... can't think of anything else at this point.

Oh well, any plans on what to get after this?

no big deal if it is dead cuz i have 2 of them. I really havnt thought about it. I am prolly going to go with this http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814130286 but I'm not real sure yet.I think I may have found a sneaky way to get the card fixed.

Well the 8600GTS is a good card. I can say that much.

And what is this sneaky way?
