Ok I have been reading about how to mod in the forums. I got confidence that i can do something with a computer.

ok so i got this computer from my friend. He has been having it in his basement for a while and he ofored it to me for free.:)

Thought i need Help!!
I dont know wat kind of designs to make or wat to do.
I was wondering if anyone could help me start out my project.:)

I will post pictures of the Computer in a while. I need to find my digital camera.

Here some pics i just took

Can anyone help me?

That remind me so much. I have this case lying somewhere in my junk.
I can suggest you disseasseble it completly. Figure out a theme for it and see for the possibilities.
Look around in the forum or trought the net for some ideas.
Painting, electronics, lights, the possibilities are endless.

Always remember: it's all about your thing. We can suggest a couple f things, but you're the only one who build it.

and BTW, edit your posts insteed of triple posts, some could get angry. (Bucko, you're the man ;) )

Edit: I remember where mine is, it's one of the cases I use for the Cpt Harlock (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8889) project (still looking for some parts) :D

first off, welcome to the forums.

Secondly, I agree with Sly. You need the idea for what you want. We can help from there. Paint, lighting and a window are the usual basics for a first PC mod.

Third, I merged all your posts. Give it more than 20 minutes before you bump your thread. People will read it as they get time.

People will reply, might not be instant but someone will eventually reply.

I'd say look around at other mods get some inspiration. Think of a theme, might be just a colour scheme or a movie and work from that.

Funny, I watched Dr. strangelove yesterday. A Kubrick theme can be really interesting...

I bought a Kubrick 3 pack on DVD: 2001, Full Metal Jacket and Clockwork Orange. So I've been working my way through them.

A Kubrick mod would be interesting though.

well thats it settled then: decorate it in a jap car style. find some outrageous colour and then put some sort of graphics on it, you can get manufacturer decals and then some cold cathodes for the finishing touch!

I reckon a HAL 9000 would work well. The HAL 9000 at the top could be a steathed DVD drive, the "eye" could be made with a magnifying glass and an LED, the speaker grill at the bottom could be an air intake.

Mind you, the orginal HAL 9000 didn't have the intel inside sticker I added to that pic...

The car theme ought to go well. Good to see some car-themed mods around (says the guy who hasn't done one yet). If I feel like custom fabricating side and front panels, I have the same case as this (but without said panels).

I may just have to do HAL 9000 now though... You don't mind do ya Bucko?

How handy are you?

Personally, I would remove those switches and smooth the whole front.

Then add a 120 mm fan, with a nice looking grille

add the switches in one the those blanking plates (buy some nice looking ones) and smooth the blanking plate to the rest of the case...

Ok For the smotthing part. What should i do? Should i add bondo on the places were the cd roms are at so it can push them forward and then sand it even.

Or Should i sand the side plastic & bottom till its even with cd-roms?

OR shoud i do something else?

For the stiwches i would take them off and replace the position or just buy some new ones like pilot switches or something like that. Can a computer only have one switch (Power Stwitch) and not have the reset buton?

SOme like these (http://www.mnpctech.com/spdprtToggle.html) the momentery ones.

For the fan i plan on puttin a 120mm.

Do what you think will look best. It's your mod.

Cut the hole out, then fit up a fan and a guard and see how it looks.

Im Making it kind of difirent. In stead of a grill im gona make it like a turbine or something.& Also puttin a momentery fighter pilot switch on it as a power button Found in mnpctech.com

Changing Topics: Ive started putting Bondo were the power& reset switches were, also were some lines were at(bottom of front case) . I have remove them.

Thought im not an expert with bondo, I go a question.
How Much do i sand of the bondo. I got some examples.
I will upload pics soon.

So I doesnt matter? which ever way is fine?

What kind of sand paper grit should i use?

dgrmkrp
08-17-2007, 06:38 PM
well, use less than 200 at first, to get the big bumps out, then you could go as high as 2000, but at about 600-800 would be fine for plastic. With wet sanding I got good results with 220 and 360 :) Can't tell I sanded ;)

Considering that you don't have a real beast there (cooling-wise), you could go more on the aesthetics: where is the PC gonna be? what will it be used for? like someone mentioned before, your favorite stuff is nice to use for 'branding' your stuff :)
So, the usual mods are (my checklist): cutting the insides, cutting the outsides, shaping stuff, fabricating stuff, fixing stuff together, finalizing parts, painting them, assembling and maybe redoing a previous step, then putting everything back :) fans, lights, metal and plastics, to show or not to show something: these are variables in the equation.

Looking at this case, I'd say first cut away the stamped grills, replace them with something else, low restriction of course, then re-shape the plastic parts. The side window panel is the most important feature in a classic mod, and then the matching of the front :)

I hope I gave you some help. And that I'm not out of line :) I just wanna help, if needed.

I tried to cut the computer case but it came out messed up. Wat bit do i need for cutting the computer case ? I was using Brand:Dremel, Type: Cut-off wheel Number:409.
But i didnt do much i just wasted more cut off wheels, than actual damage to the case.
So i tried using my angle grinder but i made to much sparks and it also was heavy and powerfull.
