I've always been interesting in building my own case, so I've finally decided to start one. I'm currently drawing up sketches, but I'd first like to know about building with wood. Is there a certain kind of wood I should use? Am I supposed to coat the wood with something? Is staining the wood good/bad/have no effect?

Tale Gunner is the wood guru around here.
Have a read of his Cherry Wood Case (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6712) thread.

you can really build a case from just about anything, the type of wood and whether you stain it or not is entirely personal preference. Also some woods are a lot easier to work with but your budget might affect what what kind of timber you can get.
and before i forget: welcome to the forums!

I've been building my PC into a wooden desk (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10070)
long way to go yet, and I'm learning that I'm no carpenter.
Learn by experience though, try things, and dont expect it to go perfect first time. One thing I found is that the top surface of my wood splintered when I took my jigsaw to it. My solution was simply to make sure this side faces inwards, and is not so visible! Though I guess this isnt a real solution.
I guess the point of my reply is, despite the fact I'm building with wood, I no nothing about it. I'll shut up.

@ACF: YOu could try putting some tape on it and seeing if that works. That might work.
