As some of you know, I work in one of the main Train Control Centres over here.
Most of the signalling/train control systems is done on a Windows XP based program. On those 12 Train Control boards you don't need the train crews names.
However on the Linux based Train Control Board I'm on tonight which looks after around 1000km (600 miles) of track and train movements, it's a little different. I need the Train crew's names for the system to work.
Because I know the train crews names, I quite often call them by their name, not just their train run number.
Tonight a driver with the surname Tom is on one train.
I couldn't help myself when I used the radio and said:
"This is Train Control to Driver Tom, take your protein pills and put your helmet on."
He got it immediatly and started laughing too.
