OK, I had to share;

I ride my sportster to work as often as I can since my ride to work is through the most beautiful slice of road around. Twisty's, redwoods and mountains. Plus it is easier to pass when needed and great on gas (45-50mpg). Well here in Cali it IS legal to lane share when on a motorcycle. So long as you pay attention and no digits try to run you off the road it is really pretty safe. This is where it gets odd.

So I am on my way to work yesterday and I come upon a guy in a work truck doing 35 in a 45 zone who refuses to use a turnout to let others pass. No problemo, twist the throttle, bye bye lagger... Off I go. Except this guy in the truck swerves toward me as I pass. Again no issue (except the one he has) and a little more twist (for sound effects) and away I go. I took a longer detour at one point to get some petrol, then back on track and I come across this same guy again at the light. I use my power of lane sharing and slide up between the cars and wait for the green. As tempted as I was to cuss the guy out for swerving at me, I let it go. Once he realizes it is me, he starts honking and flipping me off. He is a couple of cars back so again I let him stew in his own juices and forget him.

I take off from the light and hit speed limit and I hear this commotion of honking and screeching tires behind me and look into the mirror only to see this guy coming up fast on my tail. I move to the right thinking he finally figured out how to read the MPH sign, and again he swerves into my lane barely missing me. OK thats it, I AM PISSED! I hit my throttle to go after the guy and lifted my front tire off the pavement (yes I was surprised), just as I dropped the front tire, I saw a CHP (California Highway Patrol) on a bike in the mirror! I was now doing 50+ in a 40 and thought great, I'm now getting a ticket because I let that buttmunch get to me. Lo and behold the cop drew up next to me and told me to slow down, he saw what happened and off he went to pull the guy over. I followed and waited several car lengths behind the cop as he approached the truck. Then another CHP on a bike pulled up, took my statement and said I could go. Just then the first cop reacted to something the guy was yelling and YANKED the driver out of the truck! The second cop asked me to please be on my way as he ran to help his buddy. As I was pulling away I smiled and waved at the driver of the truck as he was thrown to the ground face first and handcuffed...

I love it when the cops actually get to help!

Nice! The law actually helping someone, cool. All of my experiences have been bad due to the nature of assholes in this state, NC is apparently an angsty place. I was pulling out of a KFC after dropping of a friend and getting some chow and this woman was coming from the left, right? I have my right signal on waiting for her to do her thing... she had a right signal on and was acting like she was gonna take a right, slowed down and started to turn, so I started to take a right and she immediately romped on the gas and went forward and I almost broadsided that dumb broad, luckily I have good reflexes and stomped the brakes. What a bitch. If only a cop were nearby, this state ****ing sucks for driving.

Glad you're alright though... not too sure about my faith in the human race though. At least not their driving skills... they really need to start yankin' licenses away.

I agree with the licensing issue. In Cali they say it is a privilege and not a right to drive, but I swear they will give a license to any moron with enough cash to pay the fee. I don't see this changing anytime soon, at least until they work on the public transportation issue. In California you almost HAVE to have a car to get anywhere...

That's a great story to hear! All to often you get things like this happen while out on the bike and wonder to yourself "Where are the Coppers now?".

Sad thing is, 98% of the time pricks like that get away with that kind of bs. They really need to bring back the noose! I bet crime rate would drop 90% and dumb ****s like that would think twice before bullying a biker merely because he's in a box with 4 wheels. Jail is just a free "bed" and free meals for people that have nothing to lose. GAH

If i were to see the guy in the car coming up through traffic to get at me on my motorcycle (don't ride one on the streets, but this is hypothetical) i would get the flux out of there. People with cars are the number one danger to motorcyclists, and mad idiots are even worse. I would be gone so fast he wouldn't know what hit him.

On another note, we were coming down a canyon from a day shooting in the mountains. We were almost out of the canyon and into the plains when we see this crazed 35 MPH scooter driver on the shoulder of the road, going his top speed of ten MPH below the speed limit. We see a jetta go by him, and he VEERS INTO THE LANE.

What was he DOING? and THEN as we go to pass him, he's flippin everyone off as we go by.

He was wearing full leathers and a B.A. biker helmet. He looked he should've been riding a harley. He was riding a vespa.

Mostly thought he could mod the vespa into a harley. Either that or it was his' wive's vespa as she 'borrowed' his harley xD

Hehe speaking of scooters...

In Santa Cruz there is a Scooter Club that goes out and rides a couple times a month. Kind of funny to hear all the big Harley's roaring through the canyon, only to be followed by the buzzing of the scooter's! There must be 20 or more of them at once dressed just like the Harley riders only more colorful Real funny sight to see!

^^^ Nice story!

When I'm in the road, and stuff like that happens, I call it "Instant Karma".

For some reason, I always drum up in the back of my head the song "Another One Bites the Dust..."

Hey AB, where you the one that posted the site where the guy had an Index of the vehicles he encountered in his daily commute?

EDIT: Ok, not that it's commong that people mess with me on the road and get arrested a little further down... LoL
But, you know... =\

Yes, I posted the "Highway 17 Page of Shame" (http://web.archive.org/web/20001025055104/got.net/~egallant/the_road.html). Too bad it is defunct. I really liked that page. Maybe I should start a Highway 9 page of shame...
