OK, I had to share;
I ride my sportster to work as often as I can since my ride to work is through the most beautiful slice of road around. Twisty's, redwoods and mountains. Plus it is easier to pass when needed and great on gas (45-50mpg). Well here in Cali it IS legal to lane share when on a motorcycle. So long as you pay attention and no digits try to run you off the road it is really pretty safe. This is where it gets odd.
So I am on my way to work yesterday and I come upon a guy in a work truck doing 35 in a 45 zone who refuses to use a turnout to let others pass. No problemo, twist the throttle, bye bye lagger... Off I go. Except this guy in the truck swerves toward me as I pass. Again no issue (except the one he has) and a little more twist (for sound effects) and away I go. I took a longer detour at one point to get some petrol, then back on track and I come across this same guy again at the light. I use my power of lane sharing and slide up between the cars and wait for the green. As tempted as I was to cuss the guy out for swerving at me, I let it go. Once he realizes it is me, he starts honking and flipping me off. He is a couple of cars back so again I let him stew in his own juices and forget him.
I take off from the light and hit speed limit and I hear this commotion of honking and screeching tires behind me and look into the mirror only to see this guy coming up fast on my tail. I move to the right thinking he finally figured out how to read the MPH sign, and again he swerves into my lane barely missing me. OK thats it, I AM PISSED! I hit my throttle to go after the guy and lifted my front tire off the pavement (yes I was surprised), just as I dropped the front tire, I saw a CHP (California Highway Patrol) on a bike in the mirror! I was now doing 50+ in a 40 and thought great, I'm now getting a ticket because I let that buttmunch get to me. Lo and behold the cop drew up next to me and told me to slow down, he saw what happened and off he went to pull the guy over. I followed and waited several car lengths behind the cop as he approached the truck. Then another CHP on a bike pulled up, took my statement and said I could go. Just then the first cop reacted to something the guy was yelling and YANKED the driver out of the truck! The second cop asked me to please be on my way as he ran to help his buddy. As I was pulling away I smiled and waved at the driver of the truck as he was thrown to the ground face first and handcuffed...
I love it when the cops actually get to help!
