What are some really cheap cases that are good for a noob to start modding on?

welcome to the forums! enjoy your stay!
well cheap case's are the beige metal boxes which you can probalby get for free if you walk around your neighborhood on trash day. sin'ce i'm not doing any real huge bondo, fiberglass, etc mods to my case i went for a already some what good looking case. since i've got it i've taken it apart and painted it black, added a lock, changed all the LED's on various parts(dvd, floppy, power), added cold cathodes, and am currently adding a window. here (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10079) is a link to my case.
what kind of mods are you looking at?

I was just wanting to get a feel of case modding, so adding a side window and some fans is all I was thinking of.

Edited.
just search online or at a local store for something that looks nice to you, most of the time its gonna be ~50 which is considered cheap. Almost all boxes have the same modding difficulty, some may have annoying fan slots and what not, but it can be easily fixed.
I wouldnt recommend a beige box unless you plan to do more modding then you stated. Plus rectangle window mods and fan holes are easy, so theres a very slim chance of messing up and having to pay to fix it, buy a new panel, or new case.
Just plan things out and youll be fine

once you've done rectangles and what not you can try werid shapes and what not. here (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10012) is what someone else did.

Lian Li make good quality cases, but they are a little more expensive than some.
If you feel confident to start cutting away on it, go for it! The aluminium should be easier for you to cut and shape too.
PS: You sig is too big. Maximum of 4 lines of text in regular size font, or 8 lines in the smallest font. Please change it.

I will think about what to have in my sig later.
I am thinking more about the PC-A08B because not only will I get to do a window, I will get to do painting! Woot!

The bit where it says it's an ATX-Computer-Case in the URL does kind of imply it takes ATX motherboards...

Don't feel bad, we all have to start building our knowledge somewhere. The server tower link in dfigravity's post is not an ATX. You can tell by looking at the back and seeing where the old style keyboard connection is. ATX has a panel there for the ports. I was shocked that the ancient AT case was going for over $20.

ya i didn't mean anything bad by it. before i joined this site i didn't know a whole lot about computers too. i knew how to use the computer (software and what not) but i didn't know anyting about hardware; cpu, gpu, ram, etc.

yeah, same here. I can build it and do games and basic tasks, but I don't know much about the computer itself.
