I am doing some wet sanding on a project and have a few questions. 1st I would like to say that I have read several tutorials and such on wet sanding and im making nice progress but i guess my question is that everytime I sand the coat gets smoother and smoother....but I can still see where I sanded (ie, dull, small scratches), then I paint the next coat and you cant see it until I sand again. I was wondering what happens when you get to the final coat and clear coat. I have heard everyone say to sand after your final coat but to me it looks like this will F it up. Also I should say I started sanding with 600 grit and am now up to 1500 grit. Any help or tips would be appriciated.

well when i started painting my case i had the idea of wet sanding it all but trhere was way to many curves and what not to get it done properly without spending 20+ hours on it. i did it on flat surfaces and used 500 grit, then to see where i sanded i dried it all off and went back to touch up any missed area's. i did just two coats though with no primer or clear coat. it came out ok but i need a better spray pattern on the spray paint. if you look close you can see uneven spraying.

Well, you could, but there is no point. You must undercoat it before spraying colour, so generally you just dry sand bondo smooth, then under coat and then spot putty, then undercoat again, then spray putty, then undercoat again, then paint the colour.

Ok, so im ready for a final color coat. My question is should I sand after the final color coat? I have wet sanded down to 1500 grit currently. Should i use 2000 after the final coat or should I not sand at all?
IMO, you should wet sand after the final color coat, and then clear it. That's what I did on my mouse. The color will be dull, but the clear will fix that.

Doh!!!! Yeah so I was painting and almost done with my final color coat..... Im thinking yeah I got a perfect coat of paint laid down on this baby.....when suddenly , SPLAT....a big ol drop of sweat smacks right into the wet paint.
So it looks like it wasnt my final color coat after all
That sucks! You'll have to wait for it to dry, but it's fixable.

If your looking for a super smooth finish, Wet sand the clear as well.... I know your saying What??? but once you've wet sanded and cleaned the whole thing... You rub all the tiny scratches left behind by the 2000 grit with rubbing compound. Then you that the swirl marks left from the rubbing compound with polishing compound. Once that's done... Leave the case sit for about a month (2-3 weeks if time is tight.. but longer is better) then wax and buff..For that Holy crap Mirror shine...
