I was shopping for a new monitor today and it seems now that monitors have to be "Vista Certified" to work with vista. Am I assuming right or is it something else? Does this mean if I have XP I can't buy the certified monitors? lol that'll be funny. What if I have Vista? Only certified monitors? *gasp*

I once saw a tv stand that said "Digital Cable Ready". :D

More marketing hype than anything, there are a couple things to consider. As monitors start to include other hardware (usb and firewire hubs for instance), concerns of compatibility increases.

Of course, you can use any monitor for Vista, provided that your gpu is capable of outputting a suitable resolution for it. :D

ya that crap is for the most part nonsense. there are some products that list certification for various things that do help but you could still use them. an example is SLI ready Ram. if you have the feature on your motherboard/in bois you can get a little more performance out of it then someone who doesn't have it.

on a side note i highly recommend Samsung.

Samsung and LG lcd's are great performers for the money, and both very reliable.

Benq's and Acer's are a bit less expensive, but you do get what you pay for.

Samsung eh? well which brand would you suggest? Cuz i'm looking at this one (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16824005096) for its 3000:1 contrast ratio:p. But then considering the other monitors...which one should i pick????? AHHH SO MANY CHOICES!!

my friend recently got that samsung but in a 22 inch version, quite stunning in person. :D the look of the monitor itself is worth the money itself

smart thinking. when you get a monitor like that you gotta treat it with respect. its mandatory to plug it into a OC`ed, WC`ed, modded piece of machinery :D

The reason I use and recommend Samsung (I have 2 SyncMaster 203B's myself) is because we use them at work.

In the Train Control Centre I work in, we use 21" LCDs made by Samsung.

They stay switched on 24/7 and NEVER go into a screen saver mode. We average 6 per workstation.
After seeing them on for over 3 years having never been switched off, nor been replaced and very little burn in (the image stays the same all day every day with the track layout, so those who say LCD's don't get burn in are full of ****, they do after a few years with a basically static image on 24/7), all of which means if they can put up the abuse we throw at them at work, they should stay fine for home use for even longer.
