View Full Version : TGSīs challenge: resiator by p0Pe
ok, this is my entry to the modders challenge.
my idea was to make a resevoir with radiators! :D
i thought of a couple of designs and came to this:

tell me what you think... i have the means to make it, and think i can do it:)
gonna post more renders when i get home from school
edit:
its probertly gonna fit in 2*5.25 bays i think, but its not settled yet...maybe its gonna be an external:)... depends on how big its going to be.

Is it supposed to be something like a coil? Looking at the picture, I can't seem to figure out how each loop connects to each other. Also, whats with the cross bars in the center of each loop? Is that for support? I'm not sure you need it, maybe you do. But it seems like it would restrict airflow. But, probably not enough if you have a good powerful fan.
Btw, it should be an external. That way your always bringing it fresh air and sending the warm air out the back and not into your case. Unless you can mod it in such a way that it fits in your case with the front attached to a front hole and the back attached to the back hole. or maybe put it vertically. Just so long as you are always bringing in fresh air and not emptying the warm air into your case.
Pretty cool looking design. Doesn't seem that complicated to make either. Just get a really long piece of copper tubing, then coil it. Make some coper discs, punch holes in them, then slide them on to the coil. You could probably even use thermal paste to somewhat secure and increase heat transfer to the coper discs or "fins".

i think i am able to get kobbertubes with heatsinks build in:)... but otherwise yes that was my plan, and ill se to if its gonna be external:) but i think it will work :D
edit:
i have 140 mm fans lying around at home:)... if i am able to get those to fits, the airflow will be seriusly kicking!

Hmm.. interesting.. I wonder how the parts are connected to form a reservoir though.. The renders on their way should clear it up, I guess...
Just a small idea I had: make the external piping from one piece, in spiral, then put the round fins on, solder them, have everything chromed or nickeled. The bottom side of the tube would be the intake to the res, then the pipe would spiral up, enter the clear res at the top, then at the bottom of the res you would have the out port. I think this is better for the water path, and maybe easier to construct.. I do see some potential in your alignment tho.. The pipes themselves would act as a reservoir your way, and there would be no need for the acrylic if you were to somehow connect all segments with more tubing..
Well, from my rant, you can surely tell this thread is a good idea.. making it real would be awesome :) +rep

That looks kick ass! What program is that?

You could always have it go sideways in the case so that it pulls air in one side and pushes it out the other... I'm curious to see how this all works out. Nice renders by the way.
sideways^^ that was an idea... im gonna se if that could fit... just think its not wide enough:/
and the renders is from cinema 4D, rendertime aprox 3 min on my laptop:/... since my stationary comp is on the table for surgery... ill post some drawings in about 2 hours:)... then im home and should have som more detailed blueprints ready
thx for the +rep and comments:)

I can see how it would work just as it's rendered
I'd explain it, but I really can't be arsed to, honestly.
Still though, that's pretty cool, p0Pe.

If it's not long enough to fit sideways, just extend the tube length, lol.

very cool design. this would go good with my turbine. :) +rep

im afraid its to long heh... thats the prob :/ 4 cm for the fans dont leave much left to all the other things:S... have to be extreamly compact and dont think im able to make it that small... and then there would be almost no water inside
the thing you see here is:
top image:
the way i imagened the resiator to be put if internal. the thing you see is the front of the case and 3 5.25 bays... i know it seems like alot and will think of this
bottom:
the main resevoir without the heatsinks disk on, to give a better idea of how it worked:).. someone mentioned that he could not se the way it was ment to work.

Well, in that case, put it in there going from front to back and make a curved elbow piece and have it either push or pull air through the top of the case, or even out of one side, lol... I'm quite sure you'll be able to figure something out, lol, get inventive with it, and if one thing doesn't work, try something else.

yee... that was my plan:P
just wonders if its gonna make som truble with the psu... but ill think of that later, since im pretty bookīed the next couple of days:(
but not a bad thing:P... tomorow im gonna teach 5 bikini models how to dive;P... not a bad thing to miss modding for:D and after that ill go finish up my computer so i can get rid of this crappy laptop lol! and lan in the weekend, and have arranged a meeting with my "supply" man tuesday:D so im going to get clear with what i have to work with:banana: ... until then.. ill think ill render som more and think about som inspirering input a m8 came with;P

You could make it mount on the top of the case or something real funky, to like show it off and fit, lol. But yeah, have fun with the bikini models.

no doubt i will XD
and just made some renders of how i plan to fit the fans... and maybe later ill think of some way to show it off :D
my plan is:
140 in the top for intake
120 in the resiator for further intake
and 120 in the end for outlead
now: is that overkill?... could skip the midle fan to spear some room but i would also like it to almost blow the tower backwords when i hit the power bottom

happy moddingweekend everybody:D

Am I seeing it right that, basically, it's a tube reservoir in the middle, with copper heat pipes on the outside? If thats what it is, you might need more surface area inside the res for the heat pipes to pick up the heat from the water inside.
I like the self-contained airflow design though. Thats something I was concerned about myself, the hot air coming off the rad blowing thru the rest of the case before exiting.
yes you are seing it right:).. the cober tubes goes through the tube resevoir in a cross, and leads the heat to the heatsinks on the outside.
maybe ill put furthermore heatsinks into the crossīs in the tube...

That looks Amazing! +Rep
Did you goto school to learn how to do that? How long did it take?

thx alot:)... and no, ive learned the program by myself, and hope to get the plans done by tuesday, so that i can get started with the actual work
i already have renders of a new project i would like to get started with after this one lol
and the drawings you see there have taken aprox 2/3 hours to make include rendertime

This sounds interesting and the renders are awesome i can wait to see some construction pics.
okay dudes:/... change of plans... found out that cober would be a PITA to work with, and would be expensive like h###! ... furthermore it would take to long time to make the heatsinks on the outside så that has to wait to another time:(
to be able to make this in time ive change plans, the block will now be made of aluminium, and is not going to look nearly as cool as the cober heatsinks, but i will do whatever in my power to polish the alu to shine like the sun :D
heres som renders... hopefully ill begin working on this soon

i like the first one way better but its simply not posible for me to make right now... if i get the time and founds maybe ill take it on later
im really liking your design....it reminds me of a rad design i was coming up with at one point...

Nice the design reminds me of a bike i saw on Orange County Choppers. And that was bitching.

That design is pretty much what rendermandan did in his turbine mod, looks interesting though. I liked your first idea better :)
GREAT designs pope. I may have missed it, but what prog is that? The renders are absolutely beautiful.

What's going on?
is there any life, or has this been abandonded.
hi:(.. sry its been so long since ive written, but havent had time at all, since theres been alot of things going round, so i dont have the time, nor materials to complete the mod sadly:/
also its to much like rendermandans turbine mod i think.
if i can find some sparetime i have a tiny mod in mind that will be my entry.
sry to disapoint you guys:(
