17 pounds of weapons-grade uranium disappears in china.

If the uranium was stolen by mercenaries, then yeah I'd say terrorism is likely. The Chinese wouldn't use it for terrorist style attacks though, they have a nuclear arsenal approaching the size of ours (including the whopper, w88 [I think that's it's name]). China will take us on full force when one or more of three things happen, 1: drinking water shortage (happening) 2: global food shortage (happeneing) 3: crude oil shortage (happening)

Yes, but! Would they really have the balls to launch nukes at us? Keep in mind, it's a MAD type situation, so if they go full out on us, we go full out on them (while I hop in the car and drive like crazy to the middle of nowhere ;)) and both of our countries are left with nothing.
So, considering the force (both nuclear and conventional) of both these armiers, I'm going to predict a Cold War II: The Sequel. Assuming this doesn't happen, there's a good chance a normal war will break out, and a low chance that a nuclear war will.
But, from the looks of things, we're all doomed.
So, Uh, who knows of good modding suppliers in Canada?

Omega-
I agree with you and didn't mean to imply that China would strike with nukes. I also think this is highly unlikely as our understanding of the after effect from nuclear war has evolved greatly since the cold war. It's way more likely that a nuclear war will begin by accident than intentionally.
And if it does, there will be no safe place to hide. If you wanna have nightmares for the rest of your life like me read Isaac Asimov's "Nuclear Winter"
When Albert Einstein was asked "What do you think the chances are of a nuclear war in the future?" He replied, "100%" There isn't a weapon in histroy that we have designed and haven't used in war. Question is, was the bombing in Japan cover us?
What a cheerful thread this is.....

Yeah, it is a bit bleak. I guess I don't get worried about it anymore so I mention it without thinking about what impact it may have on others.
Maybe I should close this one.

.....
A couple of my friends and I read that book years ago and most of us agree that if there is ever a MAJOR nuke fest, we would want to be at ground zero... "Wow! look at that cool fireba........."
I really don't think a nuclear war will be started by accident or on purpose. That does not mean I believe there will not be a nuclear incident at some point in our (human's) future, I think it will be more terrorist driven. Unless a country has no other option, nukes are like the big stick. Going through part of the Nuke school in the Navy taught me a few things about how they can damage a country from miles away. You would not have to get too close to the US with a nuke strike to wipe out millions of people. An offshore surface blast would put enough particulate matter in the atmosphere to do the trick. Not to mention the tidal wave that would be generated.
And yes this is a very happy thread...:hurt:
