Indeed but today my very own santa showed up and dumped this lot in my living room: four uninterruptable power supplies, an Apple powerPC, two scanners, two monitors, two Hewlett Packard PIII's a UMAX Apple Clone with some interesting looking PCI cards in ...
I'm going to do something to my appartment with this lot. I do have a really bad spikey power supply so one of the uninterruptable supplies will do her well. I think I want a music and internet machine in the kitchen for googling recipes and playing tunes while I cook and I've been thinking about setting up an IPCOP firewall for a long time: the Vectra's should be good for both those jobs. I might take the scanners apart to get some motors and things for use in other projects :D
Lovely sunny day in London too :)

D,
TY mate :D
If this is what I get for giving you $50 be prepared lol ;)
So far: one interruptable supply works fine. The others I have to put under load before I can even fire them up and I have no female to male kettle leads.
I've chucked some RAM and a HD in one of the vectra's which appears fully functional and has a TV card and a Soundblaster live! in it. Putting Ubuntu on that if I can find drivers for everything otherwise it will get Win2K and going to put it in the kitchen as a mediaPC/internet google-fu-recipe machine. I might mod one of my Kitchen cupboards - along the lines of DeskPooter - or a bread bin or something and put a flatscreen on the wall :)
But it's gonna keeep me busy lol. I'm thinking how long I might run a small outdoor soundsystem on the batteries from all those UPS's and a bunch of other stuff.
PS written this PS from one of the Vectra's under ubuntu :D :D :D working good lol didn't want to boot from CD when I had 128M of ram in it but bumped that to 384 and she's working nicely :)

My mate just phoned up and he's on his way over with another van load either this evening or later in the week. Mentioned a "stack of 250G" hard drives and a "bag of Ram" HAHA as well as another two PC's and another scanner.
I got my own Santa and it seems he visits often ;)

TBCS has inspired me. I see crap and think "well with a little this and a little that ...". Thats great.
i used to see it as andcall it a crap,
now i call it crap but see it as potential, and likewisre TBCS has made me see what things can be used for and to reuse things,

Congratulations on the successful aquisitions!
I too had some luck last week with the "technology fairy" bringing me some goodies! First, an old Acer laptop. p3-550 with 128mb ram, dvdr, and a 6gb hdd. It's currently running DSL very happily, but it's heavy as can be. The battery is in really great condition though, so thats good. :)
Second, a 37" Sharp Aquos HDTV! Actually, that was the "credit fairy" who brought that my way, and the wife wasnt too pleased when she came home and saw it (my bad...), but she's happy with it now. :) Image quality is STUNNING!
