I need to get hold of an Apple DB15 (monitor output) to VGA connector - its a little bit of kit often with dipswitches on that allows you to use an ordinary PC monitor on an Apple macintosh computer.
I'm using this for occassional support I offer for friends with Macs and don't want to buy one if I can help it as there must be about 20 million of these things sitting in sheds and attics worldwide and I'm into recycling.
If anyone has one they are not and will not use I'd happily pay the shipping.

i think this may be the wrong place for asking if people have macs.......:p
but those adapters seem to be pretty cheap on ebay if nobody has one

lol yeah .. but ?? err ... dont people mod macs??? .. and if you read between the lines I'm clearly looking for a "former Apple user" ... so no shame there ;)
The problem with me buying a new one is that that will encourage people to keep making them ... whereas as I mentioned there are probably millions of these sitting around unused. In fact I would bet there are more in landfill dumps than actually in use.

To get a hold of an Apple DB15 is easy. First download iTunes+ Quicktime and let it completely hijack the multimedia functions of your computer. Then, edit that four hours of tape (using Final Cut, of course) you have of some guy sitting in a room watching flying toasters on his monitor while enjoying the aroma of his own flatulence. Edit down to thirty-eight minutes and upload to youtube.
Next, remember not to bathe today. Or shave. But do trim the side-burns to razor sharp accuracy. Very important.
Now put on some smelly old leather sandals, (don't bother to clip those cracked yellow toenails) a Ben & Jerry "Cherry Garcia" tie-dyed T-Shirt and an ill-fitting pair of cargo shorts. Dab on patchoulie oil on the way out to hop in the VW bug.
Drive until you see a white-faced storefront with a big Apple logo. Remember to nicely crack the bumpers of the cars in front and behind you while you park the car, even though a Panzer tank could fit in that spot. Spend the next twenty minutes pacing back and forth edge to edge like a cat stuck on a roof, staring in wide-eyed, gape-jawed reverence at the three actual products displayed on altars in the store window. Be sure to make appreciative cooing noises as people pass by, loud enough for them to hear.
Once in the store, go to a clerk who is dressed exactly like you (it's ok if they have the "Chubby Hubby" T-Shirt, not everyone likes cherry). After a knowing, secretive nod to the person, talk for many minutes to him or her about how you went on ebay and bid on forty three iPhone listings but lost them all, and how At&T's service really isn't "that bad" after all. Make sure to gush about how trim, handsome and fit "Steve. J" looked (Oh that beard!) at the last convention/prayer meeting. Mention how much you think that he looks like a grown up Harry Potter.
Walk around the store for about an hour, smelling the iBooks and looking at the iPod accessories on the rack, placed so low to the floor that you have to genuflect to check them out. (who cares though, right?? You're on your knees as you should be in a place of worship.)
When the clerk finally comes back, act very suprised when you're told that they haven't made those connectors in years. Spend the next seventy minutes using a calculator on a floor model iBook, trying to figure out how much plasma you'd have to sell to buy a G6.
Then go back home and search google for the connector.

Thanks Luke :D
I know I can buy one from lots of places but for all the reasons stated above would rather not.

POLITE NOTE TO OTHERS: Please don't place links to where I can buy one of these that is not what I am looking for - it says it all in the thread.

My brother's boss is actually a Macnut, so I'll ask him later today (when he gets out of meetings).

Thanks luke: and that link was interesting: Apple may well have stopped making these but others are still making them, yet as I have said I bet there are more sitting unused than there are in use. Which is why i don't want to buy one and encourage more waste.

Using Apple already encourages waste! :D
