Yep, I said it.

I just scored two old working HTPC type dealios with 20gb HD's in each, I don't know how much RAM, slow CPU's and some other crap, and I figured that I'd take the parts and build a music server that I could have in my house (and let me take the music off of my laptop and PC, meaning MORE HARD DRIVE SPACE WOOT) and build into a small ammo can (not a .50cal, something small and portable) and be able to take to LAN parties and such (Sharing is Caring <3).

I'll get the dimensions of the computers for you all when I get home and maybe some pics too.

Opened up one of the computers. Everything appears to be in pretty good condition. One of the computers has a secondary NIC card (That one was probably the dedicated router) and two Firewire ports, as well as TV-out and such, so I'll probably use that as the base. I'll move the soundcard from the other one into this one, find the better PSU (One of them is about to die, time to do an oh-so-precise smell check), and basically frankenputer together a system with the best specs or whatnot.

Oh, and they both have 20gb HD's. >=| That won't do. I need to pick up a big IDE drive so that I can host all my media on there (easily 150gb+) as well as family members media (maybe 20gb total?), as well as breathing room, so I'm thinking 300gb+ or so.

Gonna see about Ammo cans that can fit these things (I'm fine with doing some work to get it in there and such) and then gonna place it down by the TV on a hard line (everything except one computer in this house is Wireless, and hard line > Wireless for a dedicated server)

My mom even had the idea of making a CD rack or whatnot to put next to it so we know what CD's need to be ripped (Buy a CD, put it in the case, I'll rip weekly or whatever).

I'm guessing you all want pics ;) well hold on for a few minutes while I take care of some other stuff real quickly.

Sounds good. What form factor is the motherboard?

Some proprietary deal. I'm not going to upgrade it's CPU or whatnot, just the HD (probably going to have two), Optical drive, and it should have plenty of RAM.

I already put the soundcard into the computer with the most RAM, now to just get those HD's and the ammo can, build it into there.

Sadly, I doubt any of this will happen soon as I'm saving my money for a LGA775 system.
