Please move to correct location. I wasn't sure where to put this. Thanks.

This is my first log and my first time pulling apart a monitor in general. It was easier(so far) then I thought it would be. So here we go.

Tools needed:
Tiny screw drivers. (Phillips-#0, Flat Head-2.4mm)
Regular screw driver. (to remove stand)
Soldering Iron.
Solder.
Parts to be replaced.

To give an idea, the screw drivers are on a mouse pad.

Peeling the face plate away from the back cover. You will need a small screw driver to do this. (I already removed the stand)

If you want to see the clips that hold the 2 together, click below
Face Plate (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/Clipsonfaceplate.jpg)
Back cover (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/Clipsinsidecasing.jpg)

You should now have the display with face plate and the metal back exposed. There are 2 clips on either side that hold the PSU, Inverter and controller to the display itself. Clips in green
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/Clipsforremovingbackfromfront.jpg

On my display there were 2 screws holding the buttons to the face plate. Shown Here (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/RemovingScrewsforcontrols.jpg) With a little bit of wiggling and carefully pushing on the display. It should pop out from the plastic.

After you have done that, you should be left with this:

Actually the back looks like this(I forgot the picture), The green circles are the glue points that I peeled up with my small flat head screw driver (look at that Samsung making parts for competitors):
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/Backofboard.jpg
Front view can be seen here. (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/Displaywithmetalborder.jpg) There is a mouse pad on the display to keep reflection of flash down.

I removed the wire that runs from the back to the front so I can deal with one thing at a time. Shown Here (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/Removingwire.jpg)

To get to the CCFL's we have to remove more of the back (I already unclipped the metal surround to make it easier. I can post pic if needed):
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/LCDwithboard.jpg

So I wouldn't stress the cables from the board to the display, I put some kleenex down and laid the board and wire on it:
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/BoardonKleenex-LCD.jpg

After that is done you should be left with this(as you can see there are more clips to...well unclip):
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/Removingclips.jpg

After getting all the clips undone, you should be able to pull up and should be left with this:
http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/BackingandCCFL.jpg
**BE CAREFUL WITH THE OTHER HALF, THERE IS A PIECE OF GLASS AND 2 PLASTIC SHEETS THAT AREN'T SECURE IN ANY WAY.**

Closer look at the CCFL location (there is 2 on either side of this one):

To remove the lights, you will need that #0 screw driver(best picture I could get):

To see just how small the screws are click here (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/ScrewsforCCFLs.jpg). That is a 2.4mm flat head next to them.

Here is the 2 CCFL's next to that same 2.44mm screw driver to show how small they are(they are small but also pretty strong):

Some other pics of the lights:
Lights in metal housing. (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/Lightsincasing.jpg)
Lights by themselves. (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/Lightsbythemselves.jpg)

Here is a picture of the inverter, psu and controller for the DVI and VGA:
Click Here. (http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m127/outlaw1985/Insideofcasing.jpg)

With the inverter unscrewed:

I am pretty sure the inverter is bad, but I am probably going to replace both of them since I took them out anyways. That is all I have right now as I am ordering the inverter today and will have to wait. I'll be ordering the lights next week.

Let me know how I did for my first log.

Thanks.

thats a pretty good instructional log dude. good job with the photos. only one thing i can suggest to add but its totaly optional. a rough ball park cost of your replacement parts and maybe a link to the companies web page (if you found them on the net). of course thats optional but it will let people know that this is a feasable thing for them to acctually do. keep up the great guides!!

Nice log dude. So... I could've replaced the busted glass and piece of plastic on my old monitor? Ah well, not really worth it for the stress that would've come from it. But yeah, nice work here.

As long as the glass that was broken was the glass behind the lcd screen, then yes. Otherwise you would've been better of buying a new monitor anyways. So far it hasn't been that stressfull.

For the prices that I forgot to mention.

The inverter is $29.99 + a minimum of $10 for shipping

The bulbs are $10 a piece. Not sure on shipping.

It was the glass in front of the screen. My watch hit it and cracked it, it probably broke some pixels too, so it's just as well I got rid of it. I'm looking into getting a new Samsung one sometime soon anyways.

About the stress deal, I seem to be able to create stress just as my dad does, as many good habits as I've got from him, the bad ones seem to overpower them.

Just a small update to let you know I'm still working on it. I hooked up the the display to put a light behind it just to make sure it was still alive and that there was a full picture. I couldn't get a picture of it, but on the left side, there is a light teal bar but still a picture. It's just faded from the rest of the display. Anyone know anyway to maybe fix it? I was tapping around on the board and kinda playing with the ribbon that connects to that section and it would change colors, mostly a dark blue almost purple and a staticy "navy" blue.

**update 8:23pm**
I picked up 2 more monitors with the same issue. 1 is another HP 1504FP like I am already working on and the other is a MegaVision MV140.

If anybody is waiting for more...

Another update. Appears either the company lost my order or UPS lost the package. I am trying to get a hold of the company to find out.

Last update...

I think I got shafted on this. The company I ordered the part from never shipped the part. UPS says no, and the company phone number is "no longer in service", also they don't respond to their customer service email address. Anybody else know where to get this 1504FP inverter from???

Back in business!!!

Got home today to see a box on the kitchen table...guess what finally got delivered? My inverter that I ordered over a month ago! (I don't recommend them to anybody looking to get their parts fast)

BUT....

When I turn the monitor on the CCFL's just flash on then turn off right away. WTF!? Any suggestions?

Well I had ordered another monitor off of ebay (display broken). 25 bucks including shipping. It turns out the Power Supply was bad. I now have a working monitor and spent a total of 65 dollars for a working LCD!

Cool dude. That's awesome. My messed up LCD got knocked off the desk accidentally, so I grabbed an older one I had lying around along with a CRT so I now have dual monitors.

That the same reason I was messing with these broken monitors. I currently have a 17" lcd and wanted a dual monitor setup, but didn't want to pay a lot for it. The monitor I got working is a 15" but all I want it for is my vent, xfire and the like so I don't have to constantly jump out of game... and it's nice for when you need more then one web page up.
