Hey all.

So i have this problem with my old laptop which is from 2003, i guess xD
Old system, but i dont want to throw it out, ill just fix it ( if the price will be reasonable ) and install some nice, fast linux on it ;)

My plan :

Fix the monitor for sure :-/ . Q : is it possible ?

So, is it possible to fix it all ? Can you guys suggest me some good sites on fixing laptops, etc. And what you think, is it worth it? How much money will i need, etc.

Thanks !

wow, thats REALLY nackered dude,

your best bet would be to find a replacment monitor and swap them, the pixels look dead, and the thread looks snapped from the pics, as there there. but not bitten.

I'd throw it on ebay for parts. I'd take it off ur hands if the price was right.

The thing is i can invest about ~150max to that pc, i know that i wont buy anything else for that price, so my best choice is to repair it or not?

Hmm, what ya guys think about building a laptop, is it worth it ( price )
Or just people dont do it...

Still dont know what to do ;-/

Depending on the specs of the laptop, you can probably get more selling pieces than you'd get in the long run if you were to fix it then sell it.

If your laptop has a VGA port on the back, yes there is. Here's what you need (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VGA-SVGA-LCD-Monitor-Display-2-to-1-Selector-Switch-Box_W0QQitemZ260155350732QQihZ016QQcategoryZ118162 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)

easy fix, but you need to know all the serial #'s off the old LCD or find someone with the exact same model and get the serial #'s off their's the lcds can range from 50 bucks on ebay to 290 on some replacement parts sites, as for the reast, as long as you can get everythign to click back into place I wouldn't worry about the cosmetic issues, what size is the screen? I believe I have a sharp 12.1 laptop LCD if the pinouts match I could let go of for the right price. :-P also have the controller and inverter for it still too. although the pins look alot different judging from the connector in the first pic.

That'd definitely be your easiest fix to just run a switch box and monitor... especially if you already have a monitor.

what you could do is plug a lcd mointer and press fn what ever key changes them mointer and use that instead.. so instead of haveing the computer use the lcd screen it use the external one.. then you could remove the screen alltoghther then plug it into a tv and use it as a media center pc
