So, I sold my inspiron 5150 on ebay... ended at 511 dollars.
I received an email from the highest bidder saying, "Hello seller,i have made the payment and i want you to get the item dispatch as soon as you received the payment confirmation from paypal..."
She then sent me a FAKE paypal instant notification for 850 dollars! It didn't make sense to me because I thought to myself... how can they scam me through paypal? *checks paypal* no instant transaction.
What do I do? Is there a way to give the item to the 2nd highest bidder?
&$%@ING LOW LIFE SON OF A !@#$%^&*(
I would E-mail ebay.. this type of thing happens all the time. I'm sure they have a procedure for it.

This is pathetic. The 2nd highest bidder was $501.99 and seems to be a much more legit eBayer. The 3rd highest bidder is $438.99... This means if the 2nd bidder made another purchase... I've lost 60 dollars! Is there a way to give the item to the 2nd bidder? or do I have to be charged for this listing... then be charged to relist my item and wait another 7 days. I can't believe people are getting away with this...
I swear... If I could meet these people... jail time would be close to, if not worth it............ These people turn my stomach so much I'd love to shove my 12 gauge down their effin throat. I'm sorry but these people are just filth. I really wish them the slowest, most painful death.

I'd say take down the auction and e-mail the 2nd highest bidder, ask nicely if he still wants it, if so he can have it for the £501. Tell him you had a problem with scammers.

I think ebay will handle that part of it, better to keep them involved

The auction's ended, so make a 'second chance offer' to the next highest bidder and neg the winning one.
He didn't want it sending to Nigeria by any chance, did he?

Thats why I stopped selling stuff on there. .to many people lie and say they didn't receive the item. .
Try reversing the funds through paypal. . Receive the item and send back there only garbage for a refund. . Ect.
Then you have to stay on the phone all day with paypal, fax them your delivery confirmation slips so they don't limit your account.
I'd email that person some scare mail. .Hell tell them your going to press charges.
You can make a second chance offer to the 2nd highest bidder.
If they do not accept then your stuck with the cost to list the item. . Thats Ebay for ya.
Also. .File a NPB on them. So there account gets suspended and they can't scam anyone else.

If they do not accept then your stuck with the cost to list the item. . Thats Ebay for ya.If it doesn't go to the second bidder, you can claim non-payment and get back your final value fees. I think you can also relist it free but I'm not sure.

Seems as though my distrust of online auction sites isn't wrong... what's with scammers anyway? Are they this lazy and not wanting to do something legitimate with their lives that they have to aggravate everyone else? Ah well... good luck with this.

My luck with ebay has been really good, out of hundreds of transactions I only remember a couple of bad ones. And if you follow the rules and pay attention to the paypal coverage policies you'll get your money back if something goes wrong.

yep, I've had no real problems. Sold a mobile phone on the third attempt, after two scamming attempts. The only other problem was some RAM which never arrived and I got a paypal refund.

I'm up to 701. The day I made powerseller people started scamming me.

Yeah I never thought of that, being a power seller probably does make you more of a target. I think having a 100% feedback may also because they know you want to keep it that way.

My family has bought plenty of stuff on ebay. From a pool table to a didgeridoo, and nothing bad has ever happened. Stuff arrived in good time and in good shape, just as advertised. But it's been a while since we have used it last, and we've never tried selling anything. Personally, i would've tried craigslist before ebay, but they both have thier downsides, good luck with that scammer.
Speaking of craigslist, scamming is prevalent. We were searching for a car, some guy said that he had it but he was in london. he said we would be dealing through ebay "safeharbour", which "keeps the money until the transaction has been made". It was a very well done scam, but in the end we were smarter when it turned out they wanted us to western union the money overseas. We of course, didn't do it.

Yeah, western union tends to have a bad reputation. I've used it plenty of times though, when I lived inthe Philippines I was selling leather holsters through eBay. Locally made = cheap but good quality. I could sell them for about 1/2 what they would cost in the US.

(go on, click 'em...) That was one of my customers modelling for me..

Since paypal isn't available in the Philippines, that wasn't an option so I had to find another way. I did set up a credit card payment portal through a local company called netbanks (http://www.netbanks.net/), and most people used this. Some didn't like to, and either sent a US dollar cheque (which was very awkward for me to deal with) or paid with western union.
I have also bought items with it, which fine from the seller's point of view.
The time to be wary is when the seller of the item insists on a WU payment. I always provided alternatives, and let the buyer decide.
And finally, here's a screenshot of the fake paypal receipt (http://www.cginternet.net/ebay/paypal.png) I received for my mobile phone.

^Yep, Nigeria. Another place of scammer filth. I tried selling my Matrix mod a couple years ago and some guy from Nigeria offered me $1300 for it if I'd do Western Union.....
If you get ebay involved they'll usually refund your listing costs.

some guy from Nigeria offered me $1300 for it if I'd do Western Union.....If he offered to pay you with WU then you're fine. He'll probably send you a bogus number, but it it's legit you get cash before you send it. It's the ones selling high value stuff and demanding WU payment which stink.
