A laptop that he supposedly "forgot the pw to" and this seems preeetty fishy to me.... He has the charger too though so there's a good chance he didn't steal it in public right? Unless it was all in a bag... hmm.
There was a thread somewhere on the forums with a similar problem but I couldn't find it... Is there a way to reset the pw on a laptop? Unless the guy comes up with a damn good story, I doubt I will buy it:(

if it's a windows password: boot it up with knoppix (linux live utility os), get into the documents directory under documents and settings and look around for anything that might identify the actual owner, just say you're testing it out with live linux and it won't install anything (because it really won't it makes a ramdrive for temp use) kuz you want to use it for linux or something, and if you find out it's not his, you can call the cops... if it really was his, maybe he'll give you some money for getting his lost documents?! lol, and well,
if it's a bios password, flash the bios, then start hunting for that info... fun fun, hows it feel to be a PI? :-P
p.s. the way it sounds though, you should call the cops anyway on suspicion.

If it's a Toshiba, and the pw is in the BIOS, you can buy/make a dongle to plug into the parallel port before turning it on. That's what I did with mine which I bought on eBay.

yea what he said! lol. but yeah, you can get hirens 8.6 and it should have the active password changer. Just hope that the pw problem doesn't deal with the BIOS.

It's easy to get rid of most passwords, users don't have their Admin accounts with passwords usually, so Boot into safe mode and then from the Administrator you can remove other users passwords.
Or re-install Windows.
