The sign of a true nerd ;).
On second thought, :dead: is a better emote for this.

I think it would be fairly easy to build mechanically.... however, it's going to a be a little hard to get everything.

I don't think a home job would come out anywhere near the quality though.

O.o ?
just joking, it would be pretty cool for gaming use, but if I was going to spend money on something like that, I'd go for the 3d goggle headphone combo, and the motion sensing standing unit like the badguy in hackers had, that would be *drool* if modernized.

Depends on who you are, or who you have build it. It's all about skill level; Commando does airbrushing in his home, but it's extremely well done and looks like the professionally done stuff I've seen. If you have the skills and tools needed for the job, it's 100% doable.

I can see this one done easy, actually better, but you'll need a 2 ton engine crane and a welder, about 6 feet of square tubing, the lever shock from the chair you'll rip apart and the material you're going to use for the keyboard and mouse tray, probly mdf, which lately is getting cheap :-D (which reminds me I need to build that subwoofer box for my truck soon or the kittens will have my JL 12's torn to bits! >.<

I can see it being used as a torture device by my girlfriend. all it needs in restraints.
HER: "watch this MOVIE!!!"
ME: "NOOOOO, not "You've Got Mail" staring Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks........"

make sure to add a little rumble feature for that chair when your getting fragged. :D some built in speakers would be nice and the classic cup-holder to finish it off would be nice.
Ok.. I'll bite. I'm at work and can't see myspace. What are you guys talking about? It sounds interesting.

That and it's like a torture device chair... lol. Not really, but it would be interesting to try that thing out. It's bound to be better than this cheap $20 Staples desk I have.

Here's to feeling like a dumbass.. looked enough like myspace. I'm checkin it out now.

engine Crane (http://static.zoovy.com/img/usfreight/-/8658zcherrypicker) 170-
Chair (http://www.competitiveedgeproducts.com/images/680.jpg) 249.99 (cheapest with leg rest)
Metal tubing (http://www.metal-matic.com/shapes.gif) Rectangular tubing (3x2 is standard for engine cranes) 6 feet estamate of 50 bucks
1x1 12 ft same price range (for speakers)
Creative labs 5.1 with sub (http://img.nextag.com/image/Creative-Labs-Z5500-5/1/000/000/799/653/79965307.jpg) 275 (if you're going high end, sub included)
MDF (http://www.trojancrates.co.uk/images/mdf.jpg) 3'x1' sheet of mdf should suffice for the task at hand. 3/4" think for stability. should be max 20 bucks.
Nuts and Bolts! (http://www.bestnutsbolts.com/nutsbolts.jpg)and hardware max estimate 50-75
A mig or tig welder + grinder would be required, to buy? anywhere from 400-2000 (depending on mig or tig, gas or gasless mig, and quality of wire + grinder cost (50-150 quality again)
left out the monitors kuz it's really up to the person building it what size/quality they're looking for. I probly left out other things too, if I get bored enough I might even draw up some rough plans for this, I <3 engineering stuff.
so final before monitors is 815 to get it started, this is using all pre-made material mind you, you can build a good reclining chair, using vinyl instead of real leather for about 50 bucks inlcuding hardware, tack on another 20 for a headrest. if you wanted to build the main frame yourself, drop your budget for that down to about 100-150 and just add it onto the rest of your square tubing cost just remember your top piece needs to be adjustable for your monitor(s) and you'll need casters for the bottom if you're ever going to want to move that 300 lbs hunk of metal. :-P (steel tubing vs aluminium for cost of welding and materials) so in lue of being steel = heavier.
(just found these to make your tube ends look pretty Threaded plastic inserts (http://www.rosshandling.co.uk/threaded-inserts.asp)

I got lots of time, but I'm more broke than the piggy bank that didn't make it.... :(
Haha, that thing is sweet. Its similar to some home built simulators I have seen. Very nice, although I'm not sure what company would spend the money on them.

hmm. i might throw this is in the list of the stuff i might build next. problem is... where the heck am i gonna put this at?
Mysteriphys

well, it could always be a full on "simulator environment" build it like one of those games that moves how you move, strap yourself in and go for a ride in an f16!!! just don't try to do rolls... lol
