View Full Version : I think I'll make my own test power supply
Like the one Bucko made

I have at least 3 spare power supplies lying around, if not more. I don't really need any of them. So, I like what he did, and could use it myself, so I think I'll make it. It's always a bitch to have to hook one into a motherboard and to a power button to make sure things run fine. So I guess I'll start on that sometime soon. I still have my case and that digital picture frame to make though, and possibly those frequency lasers.

I just made me one. I added a toggle switch because this ps didnt have a switch. I also added an old power button connector I soldered in a 470 ohm resistor on the 12v wire then soldered the red wire from the plug on then soldered the ground wires. This gave me a nice Led tester. I am picking up a cigerett lighter plug tomorrow and mounting it to the box too.
I had 3 power supplies to choose from, and I just happened to pick the one with no switch. I could just use another thoug, it's just that this one is the old one. Where could I get a switch?

if youre in a lazy mood just solder the wires together and you can turn it offf just by unplugging it

For a cheaper switch go to any napa, advance, oriley, bumper to bumper etc auto parts store. A normal chrome toggle switch is 2 bucks and the universal cigerett lighter plug is 3 bucks. Thats a total of 5 bucks and thats what one toggle switch would cost you at radio shack.
Actually I just got back from Radioshack, and ended up buying 5 switches, after putting another 5 back...
So much modding potential with those things.

Yeah, Radioshack kicks ass for electronics stuff, when I get the time and money to mod, I'ma go there if I need stuff like that, that and they're small and have a good color scheme, unlike Walmart with its pure white lighting and crappy color scheme... /rant
But yeah, can't wait to see what you do with this... probably something I'll do later on.
