As fun as WoW is (or as in my case), I'd recommend something else, WoW is kind of lame the way it works and doesn't have much depth to it, find another MMORPG that you don't have to subscribe to... or play EVE Online so I have someone to play with, lol.

There is a 10 day trial for WoW. I tried it but it's definitely not what it's made out to be... damn southpark made it look but but it's extremely cartoony and horrible graphics, even on full settings. If I were you, I'd go the Everyquest II route or play free MMORPG's such as SilkRoad (http://www.silkroadonline.net/), ArchLord (http://www.archlordgame.com/)or DarkEden (http://en.darkeden.com/) which will be opening up some time this month. Supposedly they completely redid the whole game and went 3d.

lol oh c'mon, how can you say SilkRoad is better than WoW? Even if it is free. I mean its fun, but its nothing compared to WoW. All you do is go around killing things, over and over and over and over again. Well, then again, I haven't played SilkRoad in a couple months. or rather.. actually.. I haven't played it in possibly a year. Hmmmm. Any gameplay updates Greco? Like... being able to do things as a main hobby aside from killing monsters? I played that game for a month, it got so ridiculously repetitive that it just wasn't a whole lot of fun anymore. Alot like Risk Your Life 2 (RYL2). Fun game, but gets repetitive after a months time or less. Thats another good thing about WoW, your not likely to get bored of the game unless you play it 10 hours a day for a month straight. Even then, its still pretty fun. :P
Definitely check out the 10 day free trial for WoW. Its worth it in my opinion, even if I don't play the game anymore. (after a few months, that'll happen to you too lol). Play the elves the first time around. The dark/night ones preferably. They have the best WOW factor in my opinion. I was blown away my first time playing that game. lol its a no wonder they only give yo 10 days instead of the usual 14 or more. You'll use every hour of every day possible to play WoW.

I was just throwing out some ideas for free games since I don't think 15 a month of WoW is worth it... it just didn't do it for me. I do agree with you 100%... SilkRoad is repetitive which is why I quit after about 2 weeks. Kill 100 tigers! GOOD! *next quest* kill 200 tigers! GOOD! now kill 100 black tigers and 100 white tigers!
*quits*
There is a new version of silkroad that has much better graphics but I'm not sure about the game play and quests because I never played it. I can't remember what it's called off hand but I'll find it when I get back home.
No MMORPG beats EQ2 IMO but if your computer can't handle it I suppose WoW is the route to go. All MMO's get repetitive to me so I normally can't play them for more than a month.
Some new MMO's I'd keep an eye on coming out soon would be FURY and Pirates of the Burning Sea. They introduced a lot of new things that put a gap between them and old traditional mmorpg's

I can't wait for the supposed StarCraft one. But what they really need is some sort of medieval-modern thing where you use both swords and guns... like M16s and stuff, not muzzle loaders. Similar to StarWars, but not as cliche. If anyone understands what I'm saying, lol.

Yea, but you gotta admit, those giant class tigers were fricken awesome! I remember trying to take one down all by myself, yea, it didn't end too well. They should carry a sign over their head reading "for groups of five or more". lol

Hmmm, I might have to check that out. Maybe. I'm not looking forward to killing more tigers. lol

This is very true, they all become repetitive. Even Runescape. But that game took much longer to become repetitive I thought. Just too bad the graphics suck too much for $5/month.
I thought Wow was great, sucked up my life so I quit while I still had one.

You played WoW Dave? I didn't know that. What class did you choose and what level did you reach?
I got a little past lvl 40 with a night elf (hunter class), lvl 14 with a blood elf, and lvl 8 with the Dranae. After that, I quit. It just got way too boring. Not much to do from lvl 39-59 with the night elf, then the blood elf is only fun to play while your in the capital city (in my opinion). And the Dranae or however you spell it, well that was just pretty boring altogether I thought.
I got to play with a lvl 60 human warrior for awhile, it wasn't much fun to be honest. Although, it was pretty cool to jump out of no where and save some noobs life... then kill him while he's thanking you with every word in his vocabulary. lol

You played WoW Dave? I didn't know that. What class did you choose and what level did you reach?
Yeah, I RP'd with Salizar the grumpy gnome. I went around with my brother, who had to keep explaining to people that I was RP'ing and that I wasn't actually a horrible grumpy person.
It was good fun though. I can't even remember what class I was...possibly a ranger or a fighter.

I was gonna go onto an RP/PvP server and make a character and speak like I'm from Russia, but that didn't work out, lol... new characters are boring.

Pirates of the Burning sea is fun. A bit demanding ont he hardware (all the reflections off the water suck a bit of power) but can be turned down if need be.
It still needs some work, but they're adding features over time. And I'd say they're doing a good job of making the "biggest ship does NOT always auto win". I've danced around much larger ships at long range with my little frigates and cutters and slowly wore them down to manageable boarding levels :)

Doesnt have much depth to it? *sigh*
Having played WoW for nearly two years, I can say that is perhaps too much depth to it. If you get into the lore (instead of just chasing loot), you'll find an incredibly deep game! Not to mention the 100's and 100's of hours you'll spend playing the game. Professions and abilities are incredibly customizable, and with the constant expansions coming out, the end is nowhere in site.
HOWEVER.. the monthly fee, the repetitive questing, and being forced to group up with random idiots is frustrating beyond belief.
I found Guild Wars to be quite nice to play.. environments are nice, world is quite big, and the interface is much better than WoW. Also, the game is more about skill than "grinding" or "timesinking", so it can be more fun for casual players. Plus there's no monthly fees.
RPG's on the PC are not that appealing to me, to be honest, I'm a console fan for RPGs. And SNES will never be topped as the king of the RPG consoles as far as I'm concerned. :D

No, it's just too tedious to level and all that... my dad levelled to 60 in like two months and I've been playing for about four or so and I'm only lvl 46, oh, and my dad has two characters that are about 70 now, that and it's gotten annoying, nobody's helpful whatsoever.
EDIT: I'll see about Guild Wars, seems like there's more to it than WoW.
ANOTHER EDIT: Oh yeah, I've tried out EVE and may play for a little while, but the training times are nuts after a while, 9 days to train Industrial to level 5?!?! Screw that. I'll play something that is friendly to my somewhat short attention and/or patience span. I don't like waiting that long for a game... but they need to balance it, and I don't plan to get stuck in one game for a few years, screw that, I'll find something else to do.

I played WoW for like a year then I quit.
Personally, I am waiting for warhammer online with its PvP goodness to come out. If it sucks, then I will probably play ago of conan (even though i have read nothing about it, just heard it was going to be good).
If that sucks too, well, um... Darkfall?
Who knows. We'll see. Maybe somebody will take SWG and make it so it DOESN'T suck. If SWG had great graphics and useful pvp (why wouldn't they put good pvp in a star wars game? it's USELESS in the current swg.) then i would be playing right now. Time will tell.

WoW was fun for a while, mainly killing time instead of doing homework however (I got to level 56 over the course of two years like that). I've not played in 5-6 months, easy. My dad (the guild leader) even booted me from the guild and has started telling people that I've stopped playing (as opposed to "Digi's busy with his social life" or whatnot).
I'll admit, though, if you get in a good guild and you don't mind forking out the $15/mo, it's a fun little game. Just don't let yourself take it too seriously.

Exactly what I did. Yeah I never took the game seriously. Now I really just play the game one week every three months when I get the WoW urges.

<~ Anarchy Online addict for closing in on 3 yrs now - if anyone plays drop me a msg
cant get onto the AO site from work but you can dl and play (basic)AO for free (just have to pay for expansions), it is a bit of a grind fest but i find it deep and challenging enough in other repects to keep me coming back time and time again
played WoW for quite a while, when some AO friends defected at WoW's launch - had a lvl60 (pre expansion) but i'm not a quester, so game lost it's charm.
Bias opinion aside, AO playerbase is, on the whole, more mature (1337 sp34k is mostly done in a tounge in cheak fashion)
know this isnt what the OP was after but it's turned into a bit of an MMORPG debate and i had to fly the Anarchy Online flag, hope i'm forgiven :D

I forgive you! ;) What you just said is the whole reason I never got into it. WoW was such a huge game from the get-go.. I didn't want to have to deal with every tom, dick, and harry 6th grader from different parts of the globe, talking smack. If there is anything worse than a 6th grader talking smack, it's a 6th grader who just whooped you with a "lvl 301 Orc Goddess" talking smack.... Thats the kind of **** that will make me want to put my head through my CRT. Thanks. I'll pass.
-Jeremy
It's not all 6th graders, lol. It has it's share of 8 year olds that are total ****ing retards, but it seems the Alliance was all morons trying to rip you off however they could, Horde's been getting that way and nobody's helpful, groups for instances fail due to one moron, etc. It's all gone to hell since the expansion, hence why I've stopped playing, it's just no fun anymore. It was fun for a while though.

Sorry for the double post, but:
How's Guild Wars, anyone here play it? I was thinking of looking into playing that as I don't want a subscription while I'm in college and could use something with strategy...
(Also didn't want to start another thread btw)

All this talk of gaming got me itchin.. I haven't bought a game since I got 2142 for my birthday.. (I didn't technically buy it, but hell it was my money, so I guess I did :p)
So I went out and got CNC3
All I gotta say is FREAKIN' AWESOME!! Definately worth 35$

I've had the Kane Edition for months now, and haven't touched it in a while as the GDI campaign was hell and the NOD one was fun, but easy... you wanna play a match online one day? I'll see what I'm doing this weekend.

If we play against two medium Scrin on Rusher like I did before, then yah... but I only did the NOD campaign, so much more fun. Yeah, Saturday sounds good... I'll try to get my TS server running tomorrow so we can chat and set it up... I'm thinking Sat. evening... you're in central time, right?

I've played one mission online and that was with some dude that only had the general idea of what he was doing and we were against two Scrin on medium... I swear they're overpowered... so maybe about 8:30 your time or 9:30 mine?
We'll figure it out, if you want we can play against an AI or two... god, it's been a couple months since I've played this game... hmm...
