I'm at 2k+ something
but I'm pretty sure the admins/mods don't want these type of threads just because they're basically pointless

Please, no more. Post count? Get over it. Rep is where it's at.

Whats the point of having a post count? I asked this before, quite some time ago, but now we have the rep system. I just don't see the point of having a post count anymore. The only plausible reason for having it, is to sort of monitor how much we post. Posting alot is a good thing, but only when your helping really, and theres only so much help to be handed out.
I don't know. I just hear it over and over again. Member woots themselves for their post count, other members get irritated by the wootfest. It just seems kind of pointless on both accounts.
Maybe we can keep the post counts, but keep them visible only to the member themselves? Maybe in their profile or something like that? Maybe above there rep point area in the user cp? That would eliminate these sorts of problems, while still giving members their post counts for whatever they need them for.
Just some food for thoughts.

I'm not sure if there's anything like this here, but IIRC over at the Gentoo Forums, certain forums don't count as posts. Only the forums where things matter (installation help, bugs, etc) gave your post count a post. Maybe something like could help.
And I agree Zephik about the w00ts. I've done that twice (at posts 1,000 and 2,000), because doing it every hundred or two hundred is annoying and a waste of space. If you have to do it at all, do it on the big numbers.
And rep is where it's all at.

The videos and links section doesn't count towards your post count, I'm not sure about any other subforums.

There's been talk about removing post count from the Chatterbox, but I think that would only imply that we actually care about post count. The reason we don't want post counts in the Videos and Links forum is simply because we only made that to get the crap out of the Chatterbox. Rep is the system: look at Filimon, 3 rep boxes and about 30 posts.

Since when were you a duck?
As for rep, it's people's decision to how they give out rep.

I agree re rep - on the whole - one thing I find mildly offensive though is when someone leaves negative rep combined with an insult and doesn't sign their name - it's happened to me twice. We Brits see that sort of thing as "bad form".
Whenever I give rep +ve or -ve, I give a reason and sign it. I'm not afraid of being seen to do what I do.
I'd appreciate your thoughts on that.
:)
i always signmy reps, + or -, but some people may see that if they neg rep them they maybe alionated.

this is my first ever forum that i've actually stayed on and post every day or so. wehn i first found out about the rep system i turned into a rep hore, i think i still am a bit. but the way i get it is helping, or trying to help so i think thats the good part the rep system. as for post counts i've never started or will a thread just to say the fact that i've gotten that many posts. i will however edit my post and say YA! 1000posts or something along those lines. as long as you don't start a thread or make a new post i don't see the harm in saying that. but like Mal said only do it ever 1000 posts. just my 2cents.

I haven't really have had neg rep, however I've had rep where it's a mystery who has given it to me. It's rather annoying, but it's their choice not to leave their name.
However regarding neg rep, it once again comes down to the individual (almost wrote induhvidual) who gives the rep, they may not want to give out who they are, or don't want to leave a trace incase you neg rep them back. There are those who forget to put their name xP. I don't believe I haven't neg repped anyone yet.
As for making threads about post counts, it's kinda silly.... but sometimes it brings up a random topic for discussion, it's not something I do.
As for bad form, it's best to see your chiropractor for that! :D

I've had very little neg rep - 3 instances I think - and handed out 2. Once a person mentioned deciding "not to neg rep back" - but that is against the rules of the rep system in any case - and I am sure the Admins would act to remove such an obvious breach if brought to their attention.
When I got an unsigned neg rep that said "you are a piece of ****" I was really taken aback as this community is usually very intelligent and constructive. I actually know who it was and I sure wont help the guy out again in a hurry - I had offered a lot of help and then did one thing he didnt like.
I lost 1 rep point. boo hoo. Had he made an intelligent comment and signed it I would feel differently - but cowardly insulting behaviour such as that shows a persons true colour in my experience. He has lost the benefit of my experience, knowledge, patience and generosity - I doubt he has the interpersonal skills to ever win them back.

The fact is, some people like to be random, but this is the internet, so if you're on here... expect there to be lots of *coughs*.
Anyway, if you try to talk to me in real life, I'm quite different to what I appear to be online.
