View Full Version : Intel being sued for using the term, "Dual Core."
DualCor files suit against Intel over Dual Core name long after Intel starts Dual Core marketing campaign
At CES 2006 DualCor announced a particularly interesting UMPC (for 2006) called the cPC handheld. DualCor uses single-core Intel technology inside the cPC device.
The fact that DualCor uses Intel processors in the cPC didn’t stop the company from filing a lawsuit in the San Jose district court against Intel over the use of the "Dual Core" moniker Intel uses for their CPUs.
DualCor changed its name from GSVI in December 2003 to DualCor and trademarked the DualCor name in 2004. There are no U.S. trademarks for "Dual Core" in the electronics or technology sectors.
DualCor claims in its suit that by using the "Dual Core" name, Intel is likely to cause confusion, mistake, or deception amongst consumers. For many the only confusion will be the fact that few have probably ever heard of DualCor.
DailyTech contacted both Intel and DualCor for comments on the pending litigation. Intel’s Chuck Mulloy had this to say about the suit, “While Intel respects the intellectual property rights of others we believe DualCor is mistaken in its allegations. As is our normal practice we would hope to settle the case amicably but we intend to defend this case vigorously if DualCor continues to pursue it.”
DualCor did not respond for comment on the suit it filed.
DualCor is seeking monetary damages for past violation of its DualCor trademark as well as an injunction to keep Intel from using the Dual Core name further.
A search on open civil cases reveals there is currently no pending suit against other microprocessor companies that sell dual-core processors, including AMD.

This is silly.... seriously. If they sue Intel, they have to sue AMD at the same time.... as Greco101 said, someone is after a quick buck.

So Intel is wrong not AMD?
Or perhaps AMD are in on it?.... Wouldn't suprise me they could do with some money.

What idiots. DualCor is apparently spelled differently than Dual Core... I hope these idiots get hit in the face with the "Shovel of Common Sense (+4 Intellect, +4 Wisdom on strike)" in the form of a failed lawsuit.
been playing wow too long?

Yes, but I've quit. I'm now gonna install VNC on all our computers and **** with family when they play... that was just a joke from like Oblivion, lol.
tought you were on eve now,
im in a huge war atm, distroyed 8 heavy crusers, and killed 3 players this week

I want to cancel EVE, I"m not in the mood to wait a month and a half to be able to use a new ship, **** that, I'll probably get GW or just some new FPS game and a taser to zap people when they nag me about "shooting people."
How do you cancel that **** anyway? I can't quite figure out how, I'm about to call the bank and tell them to not pay the guys that run EVE.
What a coincidence, I want to get back into EVE and was just about to go on.

What server are you guys on? I"m on Tranquility... ahven't been on much in the last week because I keep getting the same missions over and ****ing over, it's not fun anymore... I'd rather watch the same episode of StarTrek over and over again.
eve is good, but it can take a while to fly the good ships,
to cancel, go to the main website, login to your account, on the right, theres a cancel buttun/link
btw, get mining untill you can fly thedecent ships, then get in a corp, you can loads of money, and go hunting, its what i did,
now i go taking pop shots in 0.3 sectors.

I figured out how to cancel.
I have to wait another week before I can use Mining Rigs, I'm not in the mood to just mine over and over, instead of that **** I could do something else, which I'm trying to avoid being productive, but I don't want to do **** that's just the same thing over and over... not in the mood, I'll probably start playing CnC3 online a lot when I get my TS server up and running... MMORPGs are just pissing me off right now, too much time required and they get boring, there's hardly any content in any of them, ugh.
I used to play for a little bit, but never fully got into it. Final Fantasy XI I did, and I would've went back to that finally after 3 years, if my serials for it didn't expire. As for Eve, I am now wanting to start playing it again, and get really into it. I'm currently on one of those 14 day trials. If I like it enough still, I'll re-activate my old account and let my current trial account rot. So much I need to learn, it's sort of overwhelming.

Meh... if I can get it to work, I'd like to start playing STALKER online... that and if I get VNC on all the other computers and crash 'em when people are on WoW when I want to play online... ****ing bandwidth whores. I swear I need my own house, but then I'm either at school or working to pay for it and don't get to enjoy it, ugh... life is good and horrible at the same time. Like eating chocolate cookies and having only salt water to drink, blech.

Anyway, back to the lawsuit. I say good on DualCor. You all know full well that if anyone ever tried using a name that sounded or looked like something from Intel, they would sue like there's no tomorrow.

I dunno... DualCor's name just doesn't make sense if they make portable devices with single cores, but that's just me... well... I guess it doesn't matter what the name is, like "Intel," for example... I don't see any type of report from them, lol; thinking military stuff here by the way, they call data they have for missions and such "intel." I think so anyways. But I dunno, I don't really care too much right now, too much going on in my life.

There is a reason they are called DualCor:
"Can't decide between a PDA and a laptop? How about both in one? DualCor's new CPC is the first device to run both full-scale Windows XP and Windows Mobile 5.0, and yes, there's a reason for it.
The CPC is a 6.5" x 3.3" x 1.2", 1.2-pound brick with a 5-inch, extremely bright, 800x480 touch screen. The unit's sides are festooned with three USB ports, a video port, audio in and out and a Type 2 Compact Flash slot. There's no keyboard, so you have to attach a separate keyboard or use the on-screen keyboards and handwriting recognition built into XP Tablet PC Edition and Windows Mobile 5.0.
The real innovation is inside, and the innovation is wild. The CPC packs both a 1.5 GHz VIA C7-M chipset (for the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition side) and a 400 MHz Intel PXA263 chipset for the Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC side. The XP side even runs Vista."

They were launched at around $2,000 but I have no idea what they cost now and even if they still (ever did) actually sell any.

I think these guys had a semi-bright idea for a product but didnt think it through and forgot that technology moves forward. The duplication in their system is aimed at achieving something that is quickly overcome by tech advances.
I guess they have a company going nowhere and out of boredom (no one calling their sales hotline - aaaaah) and poverty they have come up with this as their corporate rescue plan.
Once their undoubtedly astute lawyer has emptied the rest of their by now tiny bank balance, they and the law suit will go belly up.
As a man who used to play in their world that is my analysis.
