Alright, so the dual core install in the laptop was a success! unfortunately, cpu score in aquamark3 only went up by 100 or so... overall score increased by 600ish (8200)

The video card is "shared." What does this mean? How would I upgrade it?

That means that instead of having it's own RAM, it's sharing the system RAM.

How would you change that? I haven't the foggiest...

maybe upgrade the ram to 2x1gig? 2x512 currently.

That may help.. in your BIOS there is usually a setting for the amount of shared memory that the GPU can use. Try raising that, and re-testing.

Also, make sure your drivers are as current as possible.. that can help tons with Aquamark scores. :)

There is a plug inside a hidden compartment under the battery - is that what that's for?

Quick side question:: Some guy is selling a 600 dollar laptop on CL with a fried mobo for 100 bucks. comes complete... what are the odds that the cpu, ram, hdd etc were not damaged? I'm assuming water was spilled on it.

That looks alot like the plug on my motherboard. ...lol but I can't remember what its for or where it goes! But mine is plugged in and I do have a dedicated graphics card in my lappy. Radeon 9700 Mobile (http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-Inspiron-9200-128MB-ATI-9700-Graphics-Video-G7354_W0QQitemZ180155699194QQihZ008QQcategoryZ7495 7QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem).

So, I'm not sure what that cord is really. Wish I could remember when I took apart my laptop awhile back. But, my guess would be that its for the GPU if everything works on your laptop. I don't see what else it could be for.

My graphics card plugs into my motherboard, then that cord is plugged into my motherboard (its not connected directly to the gpu, so idk), which then leads up to my monitor and plugs somewhere into the back. ...I think.

lol hope that helped somewhat...
