Well for all those that wanted the 9 series, looks like it's not going to happen.

VR-Zone has learned more about the upcoming Nvidia G92 where the official marketing name is most likely to be GeForce 8700 GTS. As revealed earlier, G92 is 65nm based and has 256-bit memory bus width. The reference 8700 GTS card has 8-layer PCB and comes with 512MB GDDR3 1ns memories so the memory clock of G92 is estimated to be between 900Mhz to 1GHz. Core clock is unknown yet.

Heh heh, more numbers to figure out what they mean, lol. I guess that the "ten thousand series" doesn't quite sound as good as "G ninety two"... I'll still pick up an 8800 or something in a couple years, or whatever's affordable and all.

why would they relese a 8700 with higher specs than an 8800?

It doesnt have higher specs then the 8800GTX, its actually much worse. Its not as high-end as that.

Sadly that means I'm out for a next generation card. Is there any news of other new cards?

Basically I bet that nVidia is going to sit on the 8800 series until ATi makes a very powerful move to get the gpu wars back in motion.

(I also predict the same for Intel).

I wonder if this is actually true.....

EDIT: According to the roadmap I use, it is true.

Ya really. I'm waiting to get my gfx card. I was going to get an 8800GTS 640MB but the G90 is like right around the corner (according to everyone).

Yea, plus could it be a DX10.1 card maybe.

I agree with Omega, The 8800Ultra will be the benchmark until AMD brings out something that can match it and thats when Nvidia will bring out their new WMD lol.

No, I said that ATi's going to release one hell of a beast. It'll tear the 8800Ultra to shreds without even breaking a sweat. Why do you think they haven't released a seriously awesome card in about two or three years? They've either got somthing up their sleeves or they're about to fold.

What can shred an 8800 ultra?

If it can, I can't wait.

Well, think about it though. If ATi merely releases a card that's about as powerful as an 8800, nVidia wouldn't have much more of an incentive to release new cards, because the ATi card will probably be huge, a powersucker, and expensive.

But if they release one that decimates the 8800 (Lets say it can run Crysis at full at over 60fps, dual 8800Ultras only put out something like 36fps), then nVidia will need to make a massive move to stay on top of the market where they've comfortably been for the past few years. Having been on top of the Videocard game since the 7800 came out basically, nV won't let ATi take the title easily.

Sorry Omega, I misunderstood your post but I still go by what I said. When AMD release something new that's when we will start to hear about Nvidia's new monster.

I bet Nvidia already have something up their sleeves too, just in case ATi dose try to attack them with that.

I still think I'd go for a 8800GTS when I get round to upgrading my system cause even if ATi unveil some kind of superpower of a GPU it would probably be rediculously expensive, especially if it was double the power of 2x 8800s, simply because if it was that powerful everyone would want one so they could charge high prices. Depends how much you'd want to future-proof your system I guess. Agree with The Boy though, nVidia have no reason to release a new one yet seeing as they have no real competition atm.

They already have. The 2900XT came out not too long ago, and kicks the 8800 Ultra's ass in higher resolutions. The only problem is that it takes a minimum of a 700 watt power supply in most cases. The 8800 Ultra is better at lower resolutions than the 2900XT, though.

Slightly cheaper, also.

Reviews I've read say that the 2900XT beats the 8800GTX not the 8800 Ultra. Unless you mean the 2900XTX (currently loading up a review or 2)

From the benchmarks I just saw, it beats the Ultras in Crossfire. But that's against one Ultra.

And from the other benches I saw, the XTX isn't holding its own either (but this could be crap, since (?) it isn't even out yet). I guess we'll see though, but either way, Nvidia is my next card.

The first card I had was an ATI (9550) I then upgraded to an Nvidia 6600GT AVG slot (replacement from system manufacturer, the 9550 blew up lol) and in my new build I have an 8800GTX. There is one very big difference I noticed between the 9550 and 6600GT and that was picture quality. On the desktop and watching DVD movies with the 9550 it was perfect, crystal clear, the 6600GT is pure crap. That would be my only regret to getting the 6600GT, oh and the fact that I cant play any game with the heap of crap because it freezes and I have to reset the computer. I'm not taking any chances with this build though, 8800GTX, maximum power :)

I don't know what is wrong with my card then if yours worked so well. I had it taken back and looked at, they said there was no problems. I thought it was overheating so I brought the best Zalman cooler I could for it (the one that looks like a half moon, can't remember the name at the moment and am to lazy to look haha). After all this it still won't work well. All drivers are up to date and I'm starting to think it is the mobo possibly.

The sad truth is I've had only 3 dedicated graphics cards in my life. My first was a 256MB 5600XT which just didn't cut it for all my games. Then I got my laptop last year which is a 128MB (Actually it's 32MB with turbo cache) 6400 Go, then this year I got a lovely 256MB 8600GT which I'm very happy with!

most of my cards have always been freebies or really cheap ex corporate cards,

my corrent card is an ATI Firegl x1 128, Its designed for CAD, but it works fine in games. Its apperently an ATI 9800XT with some tweaks for cad appilcations.

Well, though this isn't gonna beat any 8800Ultras, HIS has unveiled the first HD2900Pros and HD2900GTs (http://www.techpowerup.com/?39958). They're expected to beat a 8600GTS senselessly and compete with the 8800GTS 320MB. Two of these in Crossfire would be a pretty decent setup, don't ya think?

The way I see it is, two of them cost $500US (about $600AUS) right? So why not save the extra cash and get a GTX, you will be better value for your cash and leave room for expansion. Two in crossfire should score close to a 8800GTS 640mb right?

Would be easy to destroy an 8800 Ultra haha. Just set the performance settings over high and watch it fry. I did this to my Radeon 9550 with ATI Tool hahahha.
