Okay, so when I've seen all of the fan controllers and things like that, I wondered why all of these had to be built into the computer. I figured why not have a small simple switchbox with switches and controls for everything in your computer.

Like this but with these features:
Power on/off
Individual fans on/off
Fan Speed
Lighting on/off
Lighting Brightness
Temperature display
Power usage display
Someone has probably made one of these already, but when I get round to doing my first actual mod, this is something I will definately be doing.

Probably the main reason people put all that in their case is they don't want a mass of wires going back to the case from somewhere on the desk.

You could use an old 25 pin serial extension cable and solder the switch wires into it. That would eliminate the mass of wires. Parallel cable would work as well.
I thought about making a case mod where you would wire an old joystick into a 9 pin game port that had the power switch for the #1 fire button and the #2 would be the reset switch. I bought the 9 pin connector to solder the switch wires into it, but I abandoned the idea because I would rather have the switches on the case.

2 Wires for the power button
2 wires per fan (one to switch->pot. then back into case)
2 wires for each LED or series of LEDs (same as fans)
4 wires for Temp. display (2 power, 2 temp. probe)
No idea on the power display.
There is probably an easier way to do it, but thats what I came up with. 25-pin parallel would be more then enough.
