Eh yall. This is gonna be my next mod to undertake. Haven't really been very active in this realm for a while, too busy with other junk....ya know school/work n so on. Anyways I've been drafting up a bunch of ideas for a few months in my head, been waiting for a while to get my new components to build a new pc. Now through my work as a general contractor I've been able to obtain all my parts needed to start this thing up.

I've been at it for about two afternoons now, building from scratch. Anyways my photos of what i'm making is soon to come, within a couple hours, just wanted to set up a thread so i can just start throwing some pics up k. Cya'll soon.

alrighty alrighty time for some pictures. Now before I start I think a couple things I should mention is that I haven't done quite this b4, soo lack of experience on the large scale. All materials other then; IC, bondo, paint and hinges n rivets are all wasted scrap metal or recycled materials. Go green enviro.

http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/5856/dsc00047ib2.th.jpg (http://img505.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00047ib2.jpg)a couple side panels i cut out.

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/1624/dsc00048hj4.th.jpg (http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00048hj4.jpg)well wasted time at work, this will be used for the HDD mounting cage i'm hoping.

http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/1101/dsc00049ml0.th.jpg (http://img505.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00049ml0.jpg)same stuff, closer look

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/8798/dsc00050nc1.th.jpg (http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00050nc1.jpg)

I know this aint all to glammy, but what do you want, i'm a student :P
and yes that would be my bed on the bottom right.... :) lazy can be good too

Thanks for all the material, work! you will be greatly missed.....lol

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/3549/dsc00139oj5.th.jpg (http://img514.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00139oj5.jpg)
This is my 'workshop' not really mine as i'm just a student, and not really either a workshop as you can see :P

http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/4624/dsc00140of0.th.jpg (http://img514.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00140of0.jpg)
My side panels

http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/4328/dsc00141rc0.th.jpg (http://img505.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00141rc0.jpg)
Bottom piece....or top i'm not sure

My stash of extra crap I brought home from the work site...being a General Contractor does have it's perks i must say :)

The same HDD cage members as you saw previous

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/1481/dsc00144kq8.th.jpg (http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00144kq8.jpg)
Mobo tray that I had fashioned at work....i sure hope it'll work.

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/9600/dsc00145lm3.th.jpg (http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00145lm3.jpg)
Checking out some side panel action...
I guess this would be a good time to tell ya'll that the real sqaure is all the way in the backyard, which basically means i don't have one. As well I don't have a seet of drawn plans...which i think anyone else would look at me like a freak...my profession is drawing plans and such hahaha i'm an architectural technologist. :) soon to be civil engineer
So no plans, i have a 4" grinder, a 3/8" steel drill bit n drill and a rivet gun....and a box full of rivets needless to say. OOooo and a hammer :) lol and a pair of small vice-grips.
More update shortly

Alrighty, worked on it a couple hours yesterday with crazy setbacks, and this east indian who was rough on his english and totally lost...i had to explain to him like 18 times over just go about 3 blocks away. Anyways here's what i've done:

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/3268/dsc00158pm2.th.jpg (http://img259.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00158pm2.jpg)
This is where i left off

http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/2692/dsc00159an0.th.jpg (http://img253.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00159an0.jpg)

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/873/dsc00160gc4.th.jpg (http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00160gc4.jpg)
Just for a little motivation, and clarity of what i'm doing, i just laid everything together. Looks like what i had in my head :)

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/93/dsc00161wk9.th.jpg (http://img512.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00161wk9.jpg)
Kinda starting to take shape of the 360....don't you folks think?. I don't expect too many comments or anyhting this early in. But I would like to know if someone had read it or ne thing...atleast is someone is here ya know! :) k back to the worklog.

http://img520.imageshack.us/img520/5215/dsc00162nb5.th.jpg (http://img520.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00162nb5.jpg)
here is my fourth column support. Starting to get somewhere!
This was a slight change in plans, my improve came when the two angles I have there didn't really line up in a way that I could rivet them together. So now there will be three brackets to the base of that column. You can see the first now.

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/6960/dsc00163wd3.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00163wd3.jpg)
That little thing took me a while to think of and make. Keep in mind this can't interfere with the other two brackets either.

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/9149/dsc00164ne8.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00164ne8.jpg)
Its a little hard to see, but the two sides laying one directly over the other have a rolled edge, which makes lining up and good bracket really tricky...n with just a grinder, drill and hammer...well ya, anyways that was my solution

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/5449/dsc00165wf1.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00165wf1.jpg)
This is my first attemp at creating the laterally supporting bracket for the fourth column.

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/9618/dsc00167df6.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00167df6.jpg)
This is setting up the second time...wrong way apperantly

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/3815/dsc00168ev9.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00168ev9.jpg)
And well this is the same bracket, for the third time...apperantly i wasn't thinking all that straight, hmmm smoke*

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/7184/dsc00169zm9.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00169zm9.jpg)
And presto!!! it's on the right way now :) just crooked :(.....yarrr

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/715/dsc00170kr5.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00170kr5.jpg)
And yes this is after a little bit, another lateral brace is on there. i skipped me making that one, it's simple and i was kinda just wanting to get it on there so.

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/3161/dsc00173di8.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00173di8.jpg)
Another angle of it, you can really see how ugly it looks in there now, with rivets coming from every angle and direction. sweet

http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/5804/dsc00174vb7.th.jpg (http://img503.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00174vb7.jpg)
In this pic you can see how strong they are. Fair peice of plywood leaning on it and it doesn't even budge. Good thing pin end bracing :D

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/9833/dsc00175yx1.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00175yx1.jpg)
Here is with all the columns in and the sides laying against the frame. Note If you are looking at the pic, and the top seems a lil lop sided. Well you would be right, the back is effed up. It's k thought apperently sept. 11 is not a good modding day

http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/3348/dsc00176rx2.th.jpg (http://img255.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00176rx2.jpg)
Doesn't look as delopetated, but thats cuz of my sneaky camera angle :)

http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/7701/dsc00177py1.th.jpg (http://img210.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00177py1.jpg)
This is the troublesome backside bracing member. After I've already chopped it off andcorrected the height issue.

http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/3535/dsc00178lm8.th.jpg (http://img255.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00178lm8.jpg)
And here is the fixed shot. Everthing to the right size and shape....almost

There we go, and thats it for tonight. Actually about this time of night that east indan dude came to me looking for directions

Anywho peace out yall

Or he's making a computer case made to look like a 360.

Jetty_200
09-13-2007, 08:36 AM
Bingo Daje. a pc case, i just wanted it to be as clean and crisp as the x360 looks now. I'll tried putting that out there in my last thread about the x360 case....but no one really looked at that one. so i just left it alone.

Note: there will be an update later today, right now i just got into my site office, and we are soon to have an owners meeting....soooo i gotta wait a lil bit.

Ok with my prject, it's a scratch build. I'm gonna try to fit in a few cool standard pc stuff i.e. lighting, window, good venting etc. Any questions plsssssss throw them out there!....that would be why i'm doing this worklog ya know ;)

Alright, cyall in a few!

OK here is the update....which has nothing very significant, however...

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/6797/dsc00180nn8.th.jpg (http://img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00180nn8.jpg)
Ok lets start the top now, this is the case3 upside down

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/1023/dsc00181hp5.th.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00181hp5.jpg)
This is the already riveted bottom...sorry i kinda forgot to show that part of the proj. b4

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/3076/dsc00182iw8.th.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00182iw8.jpg)

K there is the little angle peice i had to secure the front of the top.

http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/6900/dsc00183hc8.th.jpg (http://img508.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00183hc8.jpg)
And here's the case with the angle at the top.

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/8012/dsc00184cv9.th.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00184cv9.jpg)
Ok right side up now, I have the front and rear braces secured to the top

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/4838/dsc00185pc3.th.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00185pc3.jpg)
Heres is the top peice, you can see that I'm gonna be needing some midspan stiffeners for the top peice

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/4818/dsc00187ss5.th.jpg (http://img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00187ss5.jpg)
Starting to look like something

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/5694/dsc00189yj6.th.jpg (http://img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00189yj6.jpg)
These are some filler pieces that I thought i should put in, just for the gap in the front.

http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/7535/dsc00190zt1.th.jpg (http://img508.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00190zt1.jpg)
Another shot.

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/4386/dsc00191ga9.th.jpg (http://img515.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00191ga9.jpg)
This is where the gap is. You can see it between the column pieces and the side panel....:( and this is as far as i got cuz my last damn bit had to break....ARRR

Good night all

Weird. Anyways...

If this is going to look like a large 360 I can't wait to see this. You should probably paint it in the 360 colors though.

Jetty_200
09-14-2007, 03:39 PM
yup that was me intentions. Glossy white ext. and then i'm thinking green lighting for sure, i'm gonna throw a window in the one side, and as the blackout project *not to copy but it does look super sick* the lettering on the back of the mobo side. if ya know what i mean. Anywho the interior i was thinking of white....but i dunno any other suggestion? also i was thinking the window would be in the shape of the 360 logo. I also wanted to either put an etching in the window or scuff the edges of the window and light the diffused area with green le.d.'s

Hey all. Ok I feel kinda bad about this weekends productivity, i was planning on getting a bunch more done then what i did get, but stuff happens ya know.

UPDATE:

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/2971/dsc00198rw9.th.jpg (http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00198rw9.jpg)
Ok here's my next step, to install bracing across the top for rigidity.

http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/156/dsc00199uy7.th.jpg (http://img96.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00199uy7.jpg)
Here's the top side, rivetted on both channels

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/2016/dsc00200yy6.th.jpg (http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00200yy6.jpg)
Here is the inside look, I kept the long legs of the angle on the inside face, as I wont have like laser n crap to cut out notches for my side panels to slide into I would rather have all the good stuff on the inside face. That way it leaves me more room to do stuff inside.

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/8089/dsc00201ph9.th.jpg (http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00201ph9.jpg)
Here is my snazy mobo tray that I had fashioned at work :) lol

BTW I still have yet to check out my bought case to see how they had set up the holes for the risers...This part I would appreciate if anyone had any good input?! what would you's suggest? I was thinking of either just doubling up the steel and then tapping just the steel, but i'm not quite sure if i should have bolts welded to the other side or not. Ya get what i'm sayin'?

http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/6973/dsc00202dd1.th.jpg (http://img88.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00202dd1.jpg)
Alright here I cut out two little sections for routing wiring n such.

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/5548/dsc00203co5.th.jpg (http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00203co5.jpg)
Annnnnd it's up. Atleast partially

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/78/dsc00204fr1.th.jpg (http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00204fr1.jpg)
Here is a shot from the inside.

Now there's another leg attached to it. BTW all the other tags sticking on on the other side are also riveted, incase you were wondering about rigidity.

Actually kinda funny but not. My bro-in-law came around about this time...i thought i should show him the case. And like everyone else he's sitting there going nahh that thing is gonna be all flimsy and not strong n crap. So me knowing how strong it is, I decided to show him...by throwing it around n catching it, showing the non-flimsy movement of it. That worked....till i all of a sudden forgot about the mobo tray that i just had put in, and as such couldn't catch it from that side. So BANG it hits the cement like a half finish pc case and gets a huge bend in the one corner. LOL no worries though, just sheet metal as long as you know how to hit it you can make it just about perfectly flat again. So ya i guess that can still show the rigidity of it. I popped on rivet on a brace, and bent the corner, the rest stayed the same, slightly off square now but it was corrected when i replaced the one bad rivet.

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/3047/dsc00206mz6.th.jpg (http://img132.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00206mz6.jpg)
Ok got another leg on

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/5230/dsc00207wu7.th.jpg (http://img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00207wu7.jpg)
Ok a front shot. It might look slightly sqewed...not sure if it is or it's just me taking the shot...either is possible, although I am pretty sure that it's damn straight.

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/9291/dsc00208ee1.th.jpg (http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00208ee1.jpg)
Okies I guess i musta dropped it about now, kuz this is when i started adding a couple of more braces to the backside.

http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/2047/dsc00210lh3.th.jpg (http://img337.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00210lh3.jpg)
And just when i ran out too :) can't have to many rivets

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/9462/dsc00211jk5.th.jpg (http://img132.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00211jk5.jpg)
And so I start on doing the drive cages.

http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/3295/dsc00212ac2.th.jpg (http://img132.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00212ac2.jpg)
Making the brackets for the drivecages

http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/3403/dsc00213tt4.th.jpg (http://img508.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00213tt4.jpg)
Looking good!.....until.....

http://img249.imageshack.us/img249/1182/dsc00214eu5.th.jpg (http://img249.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00214eu5.jpg)

Yup that's about as far as i got till i broke all three of my grinding wheels in about 4 hours. Reeeeaaaalllllly annoyed. So there's my stop work order lol.

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/6861/dsc00215ry8.th.jpg (http://img214.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00215ry8.jpg)
Yaa.....stupid things. I bought them outta home depot, and they suck b@lls!!

http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8947/dsc00216rc8.th.jpg (http://img214.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00216rc8.jpg)
There's my original good one i had, I used it for about a week b4 i thought it was pretty low and time to put on a new one.

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/548/dsc00217sw5.th.jpg (http://img101.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00217sw5.jpg)
Ok time to shimmey some stuff up drill me last couple of holes and pack-up for the night.

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/1169/dsc00218jw9.th.jpg (http://img339.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00218jw9.jpg)
And here is the drive cage upside down. just showing the brackets together, sorta.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/9187/dsc00219gf9.th.jpg (http://img209.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00219gf9.jpg)
And ya, time to go inside, just as i'm standing at the door waiting for my sister to not lock me outta the house i noticed one of the chunks of grinding wheel that was missing. I knew one flew past my face and the other bounced off the floor. I had found the one on the floor but lost the other half, can you see it?

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/2381/dsc00220qe8.th.jpg (http://img339.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00220qe8.jpg)

So this is the home for this first drive cage i'm making

And then i started my weekend of nothingness. Kuz of no parts to work with i basically sat around, worked on my pc for a bit yadi yadi yada.

http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/6387/dsc00228dk0.th.jpg (http://img101.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00228dk0.jpg)
And this is my front interior panel. I will have another panel (i dunno how, but i will) for the xbox360 curvature. I dunno if you folks have notice but it's a really complex compund curve on the front of that thing...i'm still debating how i should attempt it. :S

http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/3782/dsc00229xu2.th.jpg (http://img265.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00229xu2.jpg)

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/5118/dsc00230pu0.th.jpg (http://img403.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00230pu0.jpg)

http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/9852/dsc00231hr0.th.jpg (http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00231hr0.jpg)
Cut out a couple extra brackets for the HDD cage while i was waiting for the optical drive cages bondo to set.

Ok srry for the wait, I didn't see much of a need for an update, was just bondoing and sanding... yup thats about it.

Update:
http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/2884/dsc00235np2.th.jpg (http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00235np2.jpg)

http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/895/dsc00236dl4.th.jpg (http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00236dl4.jpg)
This is what i was thinking the other day for securing the side panels. I will have a set of hinges up at the front, and then the back I will have a set of these little tickets that will be able to swing up and down like that. My lil latch if you will, great things ya think up when you brainstorm blitzed:alien:

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/6151/dsc00237yr0.th.jpg (http://img225.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00237yr0.jpg)

http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/4651/dsc00242cy1.th.jpg (http://img158.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00242cy1.jpg)
I am gonna bondo all the inside corners now, even though i have a little more drilling work to do to mount up the cages n such, but it will be pretty damn hard to get in there when the cages are in.

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/265/dsc00243pq2.th.jpg (http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00243pq2.jpg)
And here is the optical cages

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/473/dsc00244vd1.th.jpg (http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00244vd1.jpg)
Yesssss.....there's nothing like bringing out your HDD with your OS on it, out into the garage with grinders n hammers n crap trying to test fit to make sure everything is perfect.... :) I had already dropped it about 2 inches to the table lol. Still works no worries

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/6296/dsc00245km0.th.jpg (http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00245km0.jpg)

http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/2628/dsc00246hu1.th.jpg (http://img158.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00246hu1.jpg)
Two halves of half of....err....confusion k two almost halfs of the cage

http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/259/dsc00247ii8.th.jpg (http://img158.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00247ii8.jpg)
awsome one full half and one half half

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/9503/dsc00249ng0.th.jpg (http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00249ng0.jpg)
There we go, two full halves of the HDD cage, gonna connect the two together tommorow.

Thats all thanks folks!

This is what i'm kinda thinking now for the top part and interconnection between the two drive cages. This will allow for a bit of cable hiding space as well as hide away all the ugly ends of my rivets.

More was done after this...umm...i'm just guessing that because i took a break to get blitzed i musta forgot i was doing a worklog...forgot the pictures hahaha...no worries though everything is still in me garage so i'll get it tonight as well as the rest of tonights update.

Yaa...i still don't get that but it's ok.

Umm soo this weekend i didn't work on it but i did yesterday and on thursday.

So here's what i've got. Getting frustrated with the slow downs so i've just been trying to get to my milestones.
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/8795/dsc00288yv8.th.jpg (http://img233.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00288yv8.jpg)

There isn't a problem using that thick of bondo is there? Lol see why it took me so long to bondo it up?

http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/4220/dsc00292tu9.th.jpg (http://img218.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00292tu9.jpg)

*WEEKEND*

When I had come back i had quite the surprise...it sucked :(

Ok. just went a lil slow yesterday, fitted one new bracket and that was about it really...it was a hard bracket though!

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/8232/dsc00301tk7.th.jpg (http://img64.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00301tk7.jpg)
There's this guy that goes all the way across the bottom of the HDD cage.

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/47/dsc00302hm1.th.jpg (http://img205.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00302hm1.jpg)
As you can see it ties in on both sides and I had to drill out the 6 rivets i had in the bottom of the HDD cage to assemble it with this bracket in place.

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/6408/dsc00303ku2.th.jpg (http://img205.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00303ku2.jpg)
and here is my only proof of how strong it is...i was tossing it around and catching it by the cages i just put in...however taking a picture while you are throwing your new pc case in the air is a slight bit tricky...so i opted to just hold it and take a picture :P

still as you can see though it holds up pretty dang well.

Thats all for now folks thanks!

Ok my update from say like friday or something. I jumped on the front panel kuz i wanted to see some stuff getting done :)

So I opened up the garage to my sweet surprise again....
http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1200/dsc00308kx8.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00308kx8.jpg)
Great mess huh?....Arrrr

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/6573/dsc00309vd3.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00309vd3.jpg)
Starting to bend

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/6530/dsc00310yk3.th.jpg (http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00310yk3.jpg)
Can see the deg. of the curve. It is the same as the 360 facade. 3 compound 3d curve..very very confusing to make.

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/2214/dsc00311ly2.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00311ly2.jpg)
See the indented curves on either side....not quite the deg. of the 360, gotta bend some more!

http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/8087/dsc00312us1.th.jpg (http://img260.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00312us1.jpg)
against the case....i hate looking at it though without everything fastened....it looks ugly with all the gaps!

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/2172/dsc00314tm4.th.jpg (http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00314tm4.jpg)
BIG GAPS!! BEND MOREEEEE

http://img502.imageshack.us/img502/422/dsc00315oo4.th.jpg (http://img502.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00315oo4.jpg)
And there, bent a lil more, not quite enough...

But this bring me to my question to the group....getting the on (smallest) easiest curve which you can easily see in the pics isn't that much of a problem...getting the one on the two 'sides' of the front panel aren't too hard either...now would anyone be able to help me out thinking of a way to get the third curve in? i tried just bending with my hands...which is how i got this far.. but everytime i put the third curve in, it takes out the first one!
And everytime i put the first one in...it takes out the third one :( soo i am pretty sure i've gott hold in place the first curve and then somewhow bend in the third curve.....any suggestions?

Blebbz
10-09-2007, 12:01 PM
I got a feelin this is going to look awesome
How the hell did you do the bends? Whenever I try to do a simple bend (without more bends inside it like you), the aluminium just pops back to shape

Jetty_200
10-09-2007, 01:36 PM
gotta over exaggerate the bends...prolly close to twice as much. depending on what you are bending to. If it is like 90 deg. then use a sharp corner of something and bang it to shape with a hammer, not to hard to accomplish. Bending a curve like my cages i followed the same idea as in the 'blackout' mod; which is to bend it around a pipe or something of the dia. that you want your curve to be. I used a broom handle. The front peice, which i kan't say is working so well, lol, i did by hand kuz there is nothing i can bend it around to get me that shape.

What i think i might have to do is cut a couple pieces of the top/bottom and bend them individually and then bondo it all up to make it look as a whole piece. Bending by hand is HARSH on your hands....i would advise to use gloves. also i find the hammer comes in handy :D lol

Also another good tool would be a bell hammer...err whatever they are called...which i don't have (money and space constraints)

well, its hard to say anything else than great job:) you can easily count on people being interestet in the mod, but many just looks in the thread, and heads on.

im looking foreward to se how the bended part comes together with the rest:D

keep it going:)

edit:

oh and by the way are you going to polish it up? :D

Jetty_200
10-10-2007, 10:12 AM
yes i'm gonna have i think it's nissan white, with a clear coat finish :)

I did try a test piece. Quick question actually, bubling in paint is due to unclean starting surfaces right?

p0Pe
10-10-2007, 11:39 AM
guess so, try cleaning it with som cleener, and remember that if you paint, then sand it down with a high grid paper, then paint again its gonna be better:)

Fuganater
10-10-2007, 11:41 AM
Yes that and if you put it on at a bad angle or too much at once. You just have to take your time when doing it unless your like pro at painting metal.

Still looking good. I'm gonna keep watching.

p0Pe
10-10-2007, 01:38 PM
and if you use sandpaper before painting the paint sticks better to the surface:)

10-10-2007, 02:00 PM
sweet deal thanx for the tips :) i'll keep 'em in mind!

i have one idea of how to bend that front piece...do you guys hold any other ideas? I believe it will all have to be done at the same time.

Blebbz
10-12-2007, 04:22 PM
Try makin it matt black, Xbox 360 Elite lol, then if you light it anywhere it'll seem to glow more. On that front piece, either make a mold out of wood and use plastic to vacuum form it (i posted a tutorial somewhere), or make a mold out of wood and make some straight bends (the ones at the edges so it fits around, and beat that piece of metal around the wood piece with a rubber mallet so it forms around the wood. You could even use a stretchforming facility but they're HUGE for the job.

Jetty_200
10-13-2007, 10:15 PM
interesting, i think that'd be kinda hard myself...i take my feet off the ground when i'm trying to bend it :P umm if you could find that tut. for me that'd be sweet deal.
He what do you guys think of this idea for the door panels: if i were to use magnets recessed into the metal, it just has to have non metallic covering right? so if i fashioned a little holder for it you guys think it would sufice? i'm thinking the whole panel to be held by magnets, prolly about12 per side. word??

Edit: u know like the mac idea :D

p0Pe
10-14-2007, 02:04 AM
interesting idea... always a PITA to get the sidepanels of:P... if they were on with magnets it would be cool:)

Edit: haha ohhhh.....nm

Jetty_200
10-16-2007, 08:34 AM
So ya i think that'd just be the best resolution...that way i wont have to worry about gaps, arranging the hinges in this weird kinda slanted but still operable fashion. And i wont have to deal with making a latch, which i was a lil worried about.

Now two quick questions 1) for usuing magnets in my pc case, i will have to sheild them all? i kinow i shouldn't have a bunch around my hdd...i may just put sheilding around those ones by the front, or maybe just not put magnets there.
2) where/what type of magnets should i be getting for this? if anyone knows anyways, otherwise i'll just be checking out randoms and posting what i find!

Just one last note: umm....i'm really really srry to say this guys, but i may have to slow down my proj. even a lil more...see i've been waiting to get my own copy of HL2 for well pretty much since the night it came out!!! and i just grabbed my orange box last night! yeeeeeee soo good :D i just love that game. I will still be working on the mod, i've done a little bit more bending, some more bondoin' n such, but im just saying it might slow down since i have only about 3 hours a night to myself in which to either build my pc or play games.

Take care ya'll n thanks

You'd probably only need those little tiny magnets what are used to keep cabinet doors shut, or perhaps a magnet strips. They manage to keep a hefty wooden door shut here, so I don't see why it should'nt work for you. Just position them as far from the Hard drives as possible

K i've got some magnets, tried 'em out with the case there last night. I would put up some more pictures, but basically it's just bondo, ontop of bondo, ontop of more bondo....i'm using lots of bondo hahaha.

Ok here's another open suggestion deal, how to put risers on the mobo tray...after i drill the holes should i just tap the holes on the thin sheet of steel or do i need to weld bolts behind it or something?...i odn't think the tread will even go that far but i dunno.

Roughhouse
10-19-2007, 03:43 PM
I think you drill and just add some lock-tite to the threads. I don't think they would go anywhere after that.

Also this is looking better everyday I see it. Keep up the good work.

Sorry I never replied tried to install ubuntu in new partition and it froze on me, got loads of errors and I binned Gparted. Got Gparted, sorted the partions, restored my Vista Partition to full HDD and sorted (+ repair install lol)

anyway, not to be a thread stealer...

I can't find a linky but if you have an old cabinets for things like DVD players or stereos, there are probably magnets on the back of the door, near to the handle. Just check, or have a nosy at a friends.

And my jack ass room mates wont gimmie a ride...however they will gimmie a ride to the band to get my money for them...i don't quite see the diff. between canadian tire and the bank when you have a vehicle that can go to both....especailly when they are in the same LOT!!! arrrr!

W/E i'll be back with more updates later on....hopefully

P.S. for the mobo tray would i have to tap the steel holes for the risers? or they should just go in should they not?

I'd just make the holes a tiny bit loose for the Risers/standoffs (i think your talking about them(, so they just slide through, then just get some nuts and tighten them up against the metal. That way there is no big deal if they are a bit too loose. That's what I'd do anyway.

http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/1302/dsc00364yj0.th.jpg (http://img113.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00364yj0.jpg)
and alot of this stuff :)
Ya i mean ALOT! haha i need it to not be squishy....soo i think it should maybe be about a half inch or so thick, maybe 5/8" or something.

Here you can see my magnet placement. I think i may add another closer to the HDD but it will remain magnetically sheilded.....hopefully.

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/5900/dsc00376ya5.th.jpg (http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00376ya5.jpg)
Lots and LOTS

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/8559/dsc00380ay3.th.jpg (http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00380ay3.jpg)
See a curve starting to appear? Yes i know it's a kinda delopotated curve but w/e

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/9397/dsc00381kf5.th.jpg (http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00381kf5.jpg)
I have lots of bondo still to go :)

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/3573/dsc00382ao7.th.jpg (http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00382ao7.jpg)
And here is where my delays are coming into play...i didn't bother to document this kinda crap much....but it happens atleast every week...and it sux balls! bugs me sooooo friggin' much!

http://img113.imageshack.us/img113/7261/dsc00383bl5.th.jpg (http://img113.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00383bl5.jpg)
So ya here's like the 6th or 7th layer of bondo...going slowly kuz i deff don't want any air pockets

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/5059/dsc00384ag2.th.jpg (http://img530.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00384ag2.jpg)
You can see how much...or how little this is building out, slowly but surely

http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/7186/dsc00385xu7.th.jpg (http://img138.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00385xu7.jpg)
And like i said....delays, delays...this is pretty much the last straw now though....after the last 2 or 3 times of having to pull my metal out from under benches, jacks, cabinets and so on, having to hammer out dents, dings scratches etc. I found my front panel completely mangled and bent in half....soooooooooo pissed, apperantly my bro-in-law has no respect or consideration for me. Woulda been nice but w/e, apperantly he likes to be an arse hole (much worse word implied, but not allowed to say on here).
So i raised it to him last night, "could you please try to be careful with my case and stuff?" And he just freaked out on me, like i mean freaked, yelling and cursing at me. Saying it's just a warped pile of metal anyways yady yad yada. I asked if instead of throwing my stuff around if he could move it, or ask me to move it. His response was it's in my way i gotta get it outta my way....which basically means he's gonna turn up everything like a savage beast went running through the tiny garage. To be honest my materials take up about 3 sq. ft. and it's against the wall more often then not...heeeeeee's an arse hole!
lol

http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/7788/dsc00386ed1.th.jpg (http://img530.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc00386ed1.jpg)
I shoulda prolly taken more pics of this crap but i wasn't planning on getting in a heated argument with him...he's my bro-in-law, i thought he mighta thought to just be civilized about it instead of being imature and just swearing his head off. w/e more to ensue tonight.

Just to note, kuz i noticed it's a lil hard to tell from those pics, but the pile of crap is about 3-4 feet tall!!!!
