It's safe to play 'em. Just keep in mind that there are a lot of immature people online that do/say/etc really stupid stuff. Oh, and I'm betting there's a few threads on here that have good recommendations for antivirus/spyware, etc. if you do a quick search, Norton isn't that great. I'd also be more worried about just surfing the web when it comes to getting viruses, I don't think games have too much of an effect on that.

If you're worried, get avast!, Ad-Aware, Windows Defender, AVG, and Spybot S&D. All are free, and you'll have some good protection.
And get yourself a good firewall. ZoneAlarm is what I use.

I had Comodo for a little bit, but I installed it whilst having a virus problem, so that might be why it screwed up... both are very good btw.

Some older games that allow private hosting can be potentially dangerous considering they can get your IP address but I honestly wouldn't worry about it. 99% of the ones that will actually threaten you, really are just 11 year olds trying to scare you.

I've sort of given up on online gaming.. I can only handle so many 12 year olds swearing at me. :P

That and you don't know how good your opponent is gonna be, they need matchmaking in all the games, it'd make more sense. I've given up on MMORPGs, they're all too simple or too stupid for me to want to play them... and WoW is ruining my life, no more games over the LAN with the family, everyone but me, my mom, and the dog plays WoW.:dead:

D2 is fun Lan game... but like WoW it can be a huge timesink. I made a purely MF warrior, and all I did with him was meph runs to outfit my other chars. It gets dull.. :(
I'm losing interest in games sooo fast.. the only ones I'm excited about now are Forza 2, PGR4, and COD4. Well, and Halo 3, but I'm not really a hardcore halo fan...
As for PC, TF2 looks like it'll be good, but that's about it. Nothing else out there excites me atm.

I know. I seriously need someone to play over the network with, it's boring playing against AIs and random idiots. My warrior in WoW is lvl 46, and my bros and dad level up about four times as fast as I do... I don't get how you can level that quick without a) going insane or b) sinking entire months into it. It's annoying, and I get mobbed like crazy because my aggro is too high or just something retarded like that... and every group I'd get stuck with would fall apart somehow and my guild was retarded, so much for helping each other out. : /

That's why I try to stick with FPS's. I played Delta Force Black Hawk Down from start to finish... the game just never got boring... It was pretty sweet being known even in UK servers and being called a cheater 50 times a day :oP
...Too bad I'm not as good with BF2.
MMORPG's always tend to suck me in... then within a month max I get bored with it.
Racing games usually have REALLY lame MP... so they get boring quick, although good to have when in the mood.
I've never played a sports game on the pc.......................weird?
I've never played a cool adventure/exploration game... any suggestions?

I just picked up Dreamfall. Supposed to be a sick adventure/exploration game. The storyline is suppose to "redefine the genre". It got good reviews and looked different so we will see I suppose.
