Between these two processors, the 6750 is faster, with a faster FSB, so why is it like $30 cheaper?

Any reason I shouldnt go for the faster one?

Smaller cache or something like that probably. That or it's cheaper to make than the 6600...

from what ive heard the E6600 has a lot more overclocking potential. i.e. it can be clocked faster than the max overclock on the E6750

What motherboard do you have? Does it only support the 1066Mhz FSB of the E6600, or does it also support 1333Mhz FSB of the E6750?

I was just going to say something like that. The E6750 is that 1333Mhz, most people have support only up to 1066Mhz. So thats my guess. Its better, but only if you have the support, which most people don't. Less demand, less cost.

I'll be getting a new motherboard here soon hopefully, so I'll make sure to get the 1333Mhz support. I found a really good overclocker for around $130, but I lost the link. ><

How much are these CPUs anyway? I might look into upgrading if'n I find the money, lol. My new motherboard supports up to either 1066 or 1333, I can't remember.

I'm not sure of the current price of the e6600, it came out over a year ago, same time my e6300 came out. But I was about to purchase the e6750 and that has been ranging from $180-$220, but is usually right around $199.

Much better than where processor price/performance was last year. I spent 190$ on the e6300 1.8Ghz 2MB 1066FSB cache last year and now the e6750 is $190-200 and 2.66Ghz(I think if i remember correctly) 4MB and 1333FSB. Much better for the same price, but thats what progression does...

Either are great cpu's. The e6600 overclocking community is huge, whereas the e6750 is a relatively new processor so I guess we will see in time which is best. Really depends on your motherboards max fsb too

Right now I have one that's like 533mhz FSB and I OC'd it to about 3ghz... maybe will go to 3.2 when I get my new mobo. Mine was about $80 before that warranty I bought.

Thats what I thought. As neas as I could tell, the FSB was the only real difference as well.

As for mobo, I dont have either yet. And, since the 6750 is 199 and the 6600 is 230, I can get the 6750 and a better/more spendy mobo for the price difference.

Yeah, the 6600 probably has better OC capabilities, but I dont want to push either one too far, even with my watercooled setup. I'd prefer a very cold chip to a warm one that's OC'd (to a point. I'll probably still OC some).

Thankx for the input.

If your not planning to overclock to the maximum I would probably go with the e6750. Higher fsb, cheaper in your case, and is 1 year newer technology. Seems like a win, win, win for you!

I bought my E6600 just before they released the E6750 and there was that massive price drop on the Q6600. I am kicking myself at the moment, waited and extra week and for $30AUS more it would have been worth it in the long run.

I ordered my 6750 today... along with the mobo I mentioned in my worklog... and 2gb of OCZ ram.

i did the same thing :dead: dont let it bother you though The E6750 is pritty much an overclocked E6600 that runs a little cooler. With an aftermarket HSF and some overclocking skill the E6600 can easily run at the same speed (3.0GHz @ 1333 FSB) and not get too hot.

Edit: I would like to say if your buying a new Processor right now the e6750 is probably a better choice b/c its newer

BOING !

Oh, and I certainly would not feel bad
at all about getting that E6600.. I was looking
at the same Chip until I saw the Q6600 for
not a whole lot more. ( c0 Stepping )
Also, according to AnandTech ( and other sites )
the E6600 is probably the best overclocker right
now of the Core Duo's.. Check out the link below,
they got it to OC Stable @ 4GHz on air !

Well I'm water cooling my rig so OCing may be an option lol.
