View Full Version : I also have a strange looking rock thing that I found
I meant to post thing a while ago. I found this strange looking rock thingy in my yard. I'm not quite sure what it is. Anyone know what to make of it? I have more pictures as well.

at a guess id say a meteorite (ive never seen one before tho!)
The outside definitely looks melted and there specs of iron ore in the middle. So my vote is for a meteorite

I've never seen one either (other than TV and the internets) but that's my first impression also. You just might have a gold mine on your hands there. I'd definitely be seeking out an expert and get their opinion.
It doesn't seem to be magnetic though. But not all meteorites have iron in them. It's just that it's more common, because they get through the atmosphere more easily.
I don't think it a meteorite. While the crust looks like it came through the atmosphere, the inside appears to be some sort of igneous rock. It could be a meteorite, but I'm gonna say its probably not. Unless if your in a meteorite field.

Looks like my lunch. I was wondering where I left that. :p
But yeah... it's not really rounded by going through the atmosphere, but it is burnt or whatever on one side... probably a meteorite. Random **** flies through space and most of it gets burnt up, but looks like you're kinda lucky, lol.
I'd say clinker at first guess. Clinkers are a waste by-product of iron smelting. Look up Salisbury Iron Ore and see how close you are to the mines. Can you scratch the black?
