Started buying parts for my new PC build.

I have never owned a half decent system, infact the best i have had is my laptop. 1.6GHz Core Duo, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD. So when i have the opportunity to upgrade (or bug parents enough they give in) im happy. When i have money, and quite a bit, i've saved for a long time and i will end up selling my old monitor and laptop too for this but it'll be worth it i hope.

Anyway enough rambling, the specs:

Intel Q6600 G0
Asus Blitz Formula SE Mobo
2GB Crucial Ballistix
EVGA 8800GTX
1x80GB HDD
1x160GBHDD
1x 74GB Raptor
Corsair HX620W
Silverstone TJ07 (This case has to be one of, if not, the best case out their imo)
Samsung SM-206BW 20" Monitor
Optiarc SATA DVDRW
Logitech MX Revolution
Logitech G11 Keyboard
Logitech X-530 5.1 Surround sound
2x AC Ryan Orange UV 120mm Fans
3x AC Ryan Orange/Blue 92mm Fans
4x AC Ryan Black/UV Blue 120mm Fans
Zalman ZM-MFC1 Plus Fan Controller
2x AC Ryan 12" UV Cathodes
Arctic Cooling MX-2 Thermal Paste

Sounds good, right?

Well i though so too. But...

Why not...

Watercool it :D

D-Tek FuZion
EK 8800GTX Full cover block
DB-1 Pump
1x 240mm Rad
1x 120mm Rad
Ek Res 150
1/2" Tubing
2ltrs Feser One Orange UV coolant
Blitz Northbridge block
Some right angle bits too.

So im happy, i just need to finish ordering it, but my dad isn't sure if he has the cash in his bank, so gotta wait to order the rest.

Then i suppose you will all want pics of hardware p0rn too ;) Can't wait. Now lets hope no order goes wrong.

And the total cost of this UBER beast...

£1950......

Or...

US$4000ish...

Like I learned recently, if it boots up and then turns off after about 15 seconds and progressively less, it's the CPU cooler, not touching the CPU or something. Just a heads up in the start, lol. Nice rig by the way... you're gonna be really thrilled to get it running, lol.

Yea will be my second self built PC, first one went ok, but this is a bit more crazy.

I just wanna play Crysis :D

Third "build" for me... basically my third computer with some of the old parts put in it. If Crysis weren't going to be $100+, I'd get it, lol. I do like having AA maxed out though. ^_^

what? $100+? crysis wont be that much, unless your adding the cost of buying new hardware to play it onto the tab.

I heard/read somewhere that Crysis is gonna be like $125 or something for just the game... not sure how true it is, I sure as hell hope that's wrong.

$100+ that's like loads.

Checks UK pricing...

Realises internet is going slow as hell again...

RRP is around £35. so that's what $70.

Just bought my Q6600 G0 :D
EVGA 8800GTX :D
Vista...
Logitech X-530 5.1 surround sound. In the process i maxed out my dad's card and now need to wait until 2moz before i can order the Watercooling and fans.

Just a question for you, why did you go for 3 HDDs?

I can understand the Raptor for speed, but why the other two drives? For less than the price of those two equaling 240Gb, you could have easily bought a 500Gb drive for all your storage needs.

Probably faster to have more than one drive looking for stuff. I tried partitioning mine for organization and so it's easier to defrag 'em... but yeah, just a theory. About his that is.

3 drives , because i've read alot about how to speed up Photoshop, people say one for the Operating system and the pagefile crap, one for Photoshop itself and then another as a scratch disk, which i wanted to be a Raptor so i could put games on.

So ill have one for running programs and files, one for the OS and more files and one for Scratch disk and Games.

Plus i haven't really managed to fill that much before and if i do i can just buy another drive and shove it in.

EDIT:Will be going for a D-Tek Fuzion instead of the Swiftech, wanted the FuZion in the first place but no where had them in stock, but i've found some now, plus it's better for Quads and cheaper yay.

EDIT2: I just bought the first bit of the watercooling. D-Tek FuZion CPU block and 1x 120mm Radiator. 2 more orders and i'll be done :) Lets hope i get it all for the weekend.

Once I get enough, I'll be pushing my CPU upto 3.6-4.0GHz with expensive but awesome RAM. But I also need a new CPU cooler and PSU for that.... and a new graphics card. Not going to be a while though.

I'm not envious. Not at all. Really... ;) Well hopefully once I've moved into my new flat and sorted out all the furniture I'll be able to think about getting stuff for my new rig. But until then I'll just have to drool over other peoples.

So's mine, almost, but not in the past three months...

Socket A with Onboard bullcrap.

Second Biostar board with 6800XT

ASUS mobo with 8500GT

Same proc on the last two though... I've swapped RAM around a little too, lol.

Sounds like a sweet build. You going to mod the case from the start?

Scotty
09-27-2007, 05:38 PM
Not modding it yet, not sure i have the guts to cut up a brand new £200 case :| what a wuss hey.

I have on the other hand put some screw holes in to mount my Res next to my motherboard. Mounting the rads looks like it'll be a bitch to do it's one hell of a squeeze to place a PSU, 1x 120mm RAD 1x 240mm Rad A Pump and the HDD cage with 3 drives in down the bottom, and that's with tubing only to the pump and to the first res :o

PICTURES :D

8800GTX (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/28092007308.jpg) - blurry as hell

8800GTX nudeness (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/28092007318.jpg) - children avert eyes... lol , credit card size thingy for size comparison, this thing is BIG

8800GTX Sexiness (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/28092007319.jpg) - mounted and ready to go in the case.

Case, with all fans and cathodes on. (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/28092007329.jpg) - Still need to do wire management in a few places and cut off some zip ties

Case again (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/28092007330.jpg)

Top fans 'n' stuff (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/28092007335.jpg)

Back fans 'n' stuff (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/28092007336.jpg)

CPU, RAM 'n' watercooling (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/28092007338.jpg)

3/4 view (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/28092007343.jpg)

3/4 view (higher) (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/28092007344.jpg)

So the whole thing is 99% complete, im waiting on 2 Bards, TWO BARBS :'( just not fair, that's why you see no tubing on the GTX...

Which means it will probably be next weekend until it's all done, i will have to leak test, which will be fun, the two radiators in the bottom along with the pump, HDDs and PSU did not want to go in at all... it's so craped it's crazy... Damn over sized case isn't bug enoungh :P

The pics don't give the right colour really it's more orange then purple i think..

I really want to just start it up but i know i can't other wise ill have to drain the loop when i get my barbs and remount the stock GTX cooler but that's not going back on. As the thermal pads went in the bin...

But in the meantime i can tidy up i suppose.... and figure where im going to put 5.1 surround sound...

09-28-2007, 06:16 PM
I HATE YOU. Just kidding. ;)

That's looking real nice. Are you putting plain distilled water in there, or some coolant?

Also, are the cathodes staying where they are? I think hidden would be waaay better, but that's just MHO.

Scotty
09-28-2007, 06:36 PM
Cathodes may move, but it's getting the cabling to them that's the issue. And the inverter. I agree that do look better hidden.

I've got some Smoothy Water, Feser One Coolant. UV orange to go with the theme :)

I'm just hoping one of the rads o pump won't spring a leak, it took aaagggeeesss to get them both in there with the other crap...

Pics of the Rads, Pump crazy tubing in the bottom. I put some coolant into the system to make sure the pump worked, and it does *phew* also works very nicely with my fan controller but the only problem if it goes down too far then it only gives 7V and the pump needs a minimum of 8... Must remember to keep it on high. Could plug it in normally though... :S hmm

With the larger Rad out (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/bottom1.jpg)

Closer view of Pump and Rad w/ Hard drive cage in back (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/bottom2.jpg)

Other side with the HDDs, 120mm Rad and PSU (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/backside.jpg)

Shot of above the pump, note that radiator is not in the case... (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/pumpabove.jpg)

Tubing to the 120mm Rad and where it all goes in and out for the other one and pump (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/120tubing.jpg)

To hold the 240mm Rad in place so it doesn't bend my side panel i fixed a L Bracket, thanks to the available screw hole. (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/nicefit.jpg)

See doesn't stick out anymore (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/yay.jpg)

AWH CRAP! now i can't get the side panel on the opposite side at all :x (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/darn.jpg)

Pump, showing you how tight that corner is, you can't even see the tubing going into the pump for the Res... (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/pump.jpg)

Shot from above of the tubing. That's the 120 radin the back, the top is in from the NB and the bottom goes out to the Graphics, the tubing on the right is from the Res to the Pump (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/abovetubing.jpg)

A shot from the back in, the 240 rad and the PSU with tubing in the middle, that goes to the Graphics (http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k128/ArtByScott/backin.jpg) - looking at it i think it could be slightly kinked, may have to put some more coils there then.

This case is so damn small... lmao...

EDIT: Well after playing for a half a day i just figured that i WAS NOT going to get both Rads and a pump in the bottom without it ending up with a bent side panel. So i am doing a re plumbing of 80% of the setup. The pump just can't fit in the bottom so it's co,ming up to the middle bit, and because of the way it works (Water out at the top) it's not easy to find a place to get it and the tubing, i have a feeling my case will be names Spaghetti Junction Jr.

Scotty

Well the WC loop has changed, as i had kinks :( and the rads were bending the side pannels :(...

So after working on that i had to wait another few days for the final piece. A barb costing £1.69.... But had to pay like £7 on postage becuase of Royal Mail stikes.

So today it arrived about 1 hour ago, and leak testing has begun :D So far no leaks *touch wood*

My Orange Dye is more green now :S obviously my rads didn't get thoroughly cleaned out...ah well never mind.

The whole thing weighs in at 4 stone.... it's heavy!

Pics soon :)

edit:

Some quick shots

The bottom, with a 240 and 120 rad crammed in... it's not easy.
