Well, as I wrote in my worklog, today when I went to Microcenter to get some more water cooling tubing, and while I was there I decided I wanted to get the P965-DS3. Then I saw the P35-DS3R for a couple bucks more so I decided to go with that. Grabbed some Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 ram.
I did this because I can grab the celly from the game server thats been down for months because I haven't a use for it anymore, and throw the P5NSLI with the OCZ ddr2 667 together with the 2 7600GS and the girlfriend can use it for her SIMS2 and whatever other games she wants to play.
Before on the P5NSLI the highest I reached was 2.3Ghz on water, and 2.1Ghz on air.
I just booted up this DS3R and got the drivers installed and tried my hand at overclocking it a little bit.
With just upping the FSB Ive already hit 3.0GHZ!!! I am so excited. I am running 3dmark06 and Orthos to test it out. I haven't even reached its limits on stock voltage yet. Once it booted at 3Ghz i just went into windows and started that. Its good to know I hit my mark and can easily go higher.
Tomorrow I will crank up the FSB to the max the rig will take and start some voltage modding. See what I can get out of this. So far its chugging along at 3ghz like its nothing. I am seriously happy. Finally a real use for the watercooling i had bought.
We will see if I can hit 3.6Ghz tomorrow, that would be a 100% Overclock.
Who knows, I almost bought a q6600 G0 while I was there, but decided to see what this cpu could do. Maybe ill get it and throw this in the rig for the girlfriend. Who knows. But I am so happy.
Ohhh... Not to mention, I moved around and cleaned the apartment because the girlfriend went home for the weekend...she will appreciate it. But....... I put the pc and desk right beside the air conditioner. The radiator for the watercooling loop is sucking in cool air now hehehe. Actually the ac is blowing all over the computer.
Just checked the temp in the bios for the cpu. 16C! NICE. This computer is nice and chilly. Thats a little above what the thermometer is reading for the area. If only the rest of the room was that temp. Its like 26C for the rest of the room and apartment. (The AC is the one that came with the apartment and looks like 25years old and isnt all that efficient. Puts out some nice cool air but not enough I guess.)
