Since there is that thread about the 180sx, i decided to put a thread here about Cars. Your Car, Dream Car, Old Car, Tuned Car, Race cars whatever.
Well to start things off i'll say my parents have a 06 Nissan X-Trail.
I dont have a car. yet.:down:
Oh! And post pics!

Currently I have an '06 Jeep Liberty. I like it but deep down I still like tuners and small sports cars. My dream car would be a '67 Fastback, bored to the max and a few shots in the trunk, just for fun :devious:.
I had a '98 Ford Escort ZX2. Good little starter tuner for a US made car. All I had an chance to do was put a short ram air intake on it but I dyno'd it before and after, 130hp before and got 145hp after. Even with that little bit of an increase I was smoking the tires quite a few times.
Right now I've been trying to convince the wife to let me buy a motorcycle but thats not going to well with her dad getting into an accident on one (end of July, broken and dislocated wrist and ankle, and hes already back on one going to and from work.)
but if I can't get that I'll settle for a newer mustang. That way I can kinda get the classic look but without the insane price tag for on in good shape.

I have my ride on cardomain.com:
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2586743
One cool thing I have recently done is replace the ignition switch. I found complete and detailed instructions on how to do it with the help of Google and a Grand Prix forum. I was going to replace the air conditioner's resistor pack, but some more internet information explained that my ignition switch was the real problem.
Google makes you powerful!
i would love to own these cars at one point:

Don't have any access to my pics at the moment, but my car is a 2003 Dodge Srt4. Silver. Ive had it since 2003. Nice quick little car. When I bought it no one had it, since then theyve made 20,000 more so they are all over the place now...and I thought i was unique...now they are everywhere.
But I still love it. It was parked for 4 months but just got it back up since my surgery. No crazy mods, im one for function instead of pure performance. Have a few, got rid of a few too. Most cars that I need to beat, I do, the others I deserve to lose. And I haven't raced in a year anyway, got over that. Soooo ya, wow I can merge quickly on the highway woot! Whatever...

My Landrover Discovery after I conducted a short lived and very successful experiment in how to kill a Land Rover Discovery:
http://www.freedomforall.net/landy.jpg
I miss her dearly. She was my wheelchair basically. Next car get will be identical ... except for having ABS because I drive like a lunatic. I ran her on a 65% rapeseed oil 35% diesel mix: 10 litres diesel from the gas station at the supermaket and 6 x 3 litres cooking oil from the supermarket - used to pour it in in the carpark and shimmy the steeringwheel to give it a good mix on the way out. Ecological and cheap. :)
ps and if I hadn't been in a four wheel drive the back of the lorry I hit (into the back corner of a flatbed) would have visited my face through the windscreen :(

and yea the Tdi is sweet. Tell yr sis she can mix up to 65% rapeseed (cooking) oil in with the diesel with no modification to the vehicle and she will halve her fuel costs and get better performance from the engine and help the environment cos she'll be burning last years sunlight instead of oil :) (just make sure the carburetta isn't a lucas one)

Saying that, my bros boss runs his van on pure chip fat oil (Sunflower oil) he just filters it and thins it down with a wired chemical whish is cheaper than diesel, it costs him about £150 a year to run, he gets the oil for free from local collages and chippies.

1995 Sportster XL1200 minor mods to make it breath better. Next up is a cam shaft replacement for more HP, new ignition system to take advantage of the dual fire heads and some minor cosmetics (getting rid of all the stock chrome).
2002 Mustang GT Nothing modded at all _yet_.
1975 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40. Disk brakes all the way around, '76 top (with the cool rear wing windows), lift gate, not ambulance doors, '77 Straight six (replaced original due to run in with drug dealer), Warn hubs. Currently in the process of tearing this beast down to the frame. Needs to be repainted and resealed and will paint the frame at the same time. Will also replace all the rubbers. There is NO rust at all on this body! Wanted to replace the engine with a 350 4 bolt and a better transmission, but that will have to wait for a couple of years. ($$)

The best way to get more power out of a diesel is to put an LPG injection system on.
The Land Rover Specialists who Dad does all his parts buying for his Range Rover.
So, a system that provides up to 20% more power and torque, provides up to a 20% reduction in fuel costs, increases range by up to 20%, reduces engine wear, clears the black plume and reduces all other emissions?
What? Surely this is impossible?
Up until now, yes. However, an LPG injection system for diesel engines, developed and produced here in Australia, does all of this, no question. You can run your diesel on gas!
www.dieselgas.com.au
we have that system in uk i think, bloke down the road has volvo s40, had it converted to LPG, more power, less emmisions, and lower fuel consumtion

OK, side slant here sorry for the derail, but it is worth it.
Turns out the new neighbors were drug dealers. OK no issue, I will not preach and say that I stick my nose into the locals business, but it was getting pretty obvious what they were doing by the amount of traffic showing up at the house and it was not dime bag sales either. It got so bad that one day when I came home, my driveway was full and my turnout had 2 cars in it with people waiting inside the cars. I went to the neighbors house and asked that they move (OK I really did not ASK). I was given an attitude and a couple of nasty remarks, at which point I asked who was the renter. I told him I was not happy about the drug dealing and traffic, and he gave me an attitude and told me to get lost. I walked home and called the police and took pictures of all the cars and their occupants which I turned over to the cops. Most of the cars were gone by the time the police showed up and they really had nothing to go on except my word. They took a report, cast me a knowing look and a wink and went on their way.
The following week a van showed up on my property and the guy set up camp right there halfway on my property, halfway on my neighbors property (not the drug dealers). I asked him to move, he refused. I spoke with the neighbor and the guy was a friend of a friend and she was too brow beat by this guy to tell him to leave. I called the cops. They refused to do anything because I could not prove my property line. Turns out this guy was a real close friend of the drug dealers and he was there to harass us. One day while I was at work, the SO went out to tear down a small section of fence that was giving this guy privacy. He came back as she was wielding a sledge hammer tearing out this fence and started to hassle her. He even came at her with his bowie knife. She chased him back into his van with the sledge hammer (never do mess with my wife!), then went inside to call the cops. They came and hassled him but could not prove he threatened her (the cops really are better now) so nothing happened. When I went out there after work, he was all smiles and just threw insults at me. The next day I called the surveyor. The next weekend my Father-in-law was coming over to help with a house project and as he came around the corner, he saw a drug deal in progress, with the buyer being an under aged kid (obvious). My Father-in-law did what any retired FBI narcotics officer would do and called his friends at the local DEA and county drug task force agency. Unbeknownst to me, they setup surveillance at another neighbors house and started making their case. I continued taking photo's of anyone that showed up and kept sending them to the cops.
Two weeks later the surveyor finished ($2500 later) and marked where the property line is. I spoke with the wimpy neighbor and told her that the guy needed to be gone or she would also be responsible for his actions, the police backed me up on that too. At 8:30 am the Surveyor marked the line, at 9:00am the police and tow truck showed up. They gave the guy 15 minutes to vacate and when he went to open up the side of his van, a trash bag full of pot fell out and spilled on the ground. Busted! In handcuffs, the guy was hauled away screaming vengeance... They towed his van away. At 10:00am the lumber truck showed up with all the materials I needed to build a fence and by the end of that weekend, it was up.
About a week later I was home early working in the back yard and I hear a commotion at the drug dealers house and there are about 6 black suv's and a ****load of dea agents in front of the offending house and they were loading trash bag after trash bag into the suv's, then finally out comes the drug dealer and his wife and their 3 kids... Later that week, the first guy that got arrested shows back up, not knowing that the drug dealer got pinched and he is trying to get into the house which is now vacant and the locks have been changed. He wanders over to my house screaming some nonsense **** and I called the cops. They took him away for disturbing the peace.
A week goes by, I jump into the FJ40 head off to work. I get about 5 miles down the road, the engine makes a _HORRIBLE_ sound and locks up. I was able to coast into a parking lot, then called AAA to tow me to the local garage. The guys at the garage (One of very few people that I will let touch my FJ40) go over the truck and call me to tell me they just pulled almost a quart of sand blasting beads out of the engine. Totally seized, not fit for a rebuild, they will not even give me the core charge...
Several days later the SO and I are walking to dinner in town and we see this asshat walking toward us. The SO immediately wants to go kick his ass but me being the calm one knowing others are watching, holds her back. As we pass the guy he says: "how's your truck running?" !?!?!?! Before I knew it, the SO unleashed the fury of her right hook. She hit him so hard he hit a parked car as he was falling down (didn't I warn you not to mess with the wife?). She always beats me to **** like that, but I am more of the sane one thinking ahead to what the outcome would be. We continue on to dinner and when we are heading back, the cops are waiting for us. He wanted to file a battery complaint but there was not enough evidence that anything took place (besides the cut on his face). The cops knew the situation and ended up arresting the guy for public intoxication. Never heard from him again...
I know, long story for a simple issue. I even left out some of the other events that took place. I could write a book on the **** I have had to deal with in my 'hood, but that's just it; IT IS MY HOOD! Many years later, our area is now a lot nicer, no drug dealers and no asshats provoking people by doing stupid ****! The truck never ran so good, but it really did piss me off, because up until then ALL the serial numbers matched on that truck and it had less than 80k original miles... OH and the SO got so pissed at the guy because it is really HER truck.

This happened about 10 years ago (had to think about that one...). The wife is not so scary unless you mess with (in this order), pets, property or life. Just to look at her you would never guess she had a dangerous right hook (or dangerous anything for that matter). I thank her dad for that one. He taught all his girls how to defend themselves (with or without weapons). Her littlest sister is all of 98 pounds and I would NEVER piss her off.
BTW I have a few more. Took several years to get our 'hood free from scumbags and I am not afraid to stand up for and fight for my rights.
BAck on topic;
How cheap is LP vs Diesel in other countries? What is the availability like?
Bucko
09-24-2007, 07:05 PM
Pretty much anywhere in Oz you'll get diesel. Our trucking industry is Australia's backbone and petrol is banned in certain perts of the outback due to Aborignals sniffing it.
LPG is at most service stations, except smaller regional ones here.
Diesel is AU$1.20ish a litre
LPG is AU50-60c a litre
Airbozo
09-24-2007, 07:33 PM
I ask mainly because LPG is what I use for my house, cooking, heating, etc. But to actually pull into a station and fill up a vehicle with LP is a chore. If they do have LPG, they rarely have anyone that is trained on filling up anything but a 5 gal tank. Even though it is the same fitting, I have seen people denied because it is new to them. Just about everywhere has LPG though so it should not be that big of deal.

My plans are eventually to get a Mazda BP-T engine (1.8l DOHC 4cyl w/ turbo) and after upgrading it swap it in. I also have a plan for serious suspension upgrades. Probably hold off until I get my next car(s) so I don't need to use this thing.
I will probably enter into the local SCCA Solo II autocross with it for next years season (some races are actually held at my school).

this is where most of my money goes too, dam maintenance on it! i gotta take it into the dealership for oil changes. so i decided to take my dad's toyota tacoma with me to san diego, and leave the car with a cover on back at home.
Dilphat, I hate you. As far as design goes, I am the biggest Porsche-Lover on the planet. I even like the 914s! That is my dream: owning a porsche. Surprisingly its not too expensive to get a used and well-driven 944 for less than $6,000. Which is very much in my price range.
Right now I'm driving my parent's 2003 Ford Explorer :down::dead:. By the way, I hate SUV's. I suppose its better than no car, but it is only better by a little bit.

I don't really know much about cars, but here is my all time favourite.
This isn't my own car, but I am in love with it. I love BMW's. This is a BMW Z3. We hired one for the yr 12 farewell luncheon which we held at my school today, the theme was James Bond. We couldn't get our hands on an Aston Martin, so we settled for this one instead, and boy, am I glad we did.

Back on track car buffs...
You had no proof of what the guy did to your FJ40!? OMG!! I'd be more than pissed. That really sucks man... weather it ran well or not... the money put towards a new engine could have been put into the matching block. Now it's too late.

I had no physical proof, only suspicion. I knew the guy knew about it when he made the remark about how was the truck running, but that would not fly for the cops.
There was nothing that could be done to the matching block. Believe me I tried several shops and they all said the same thing; "Boat Anchor".
Three times I have shed a tear for a vehicle. Once when my cherry '69 Chevelle was utterly destroyed by a hail storm (similar to this one);
http://www.dealsonwheels.com/database/cars/83428big.jpg
once when they hauled away my '70 Rover 3500s (like this one but blue);
http://www.rstca.com/yellow3500s.JPG
and when I learned the engine was destroyed in our '75 FJ40 (like this one, but the paint is not as nice);

Hehe amazes me how someone can be so attached to a vehicle...

I have felt like crying when dealing with vehicles. My ZX2 that I had all sorts of plans for. Some 17 year old girl pulled out in front of me and I T-Boned her. At the body shop we couldn't even get the hood open and I wasn't leaking fluids but I came to the conclusion that even if I got the insurance company to pay for the damages, est. $4400 car BB $2200, That I may not be 100 % comfertable not knowing if any internal damage had been done to the engine. So we took the $ from the insurance company and put it toward our Jeep.

AJ & NightrainSrt4: Lol ok, I am still a car n00b, I just heard someone say it was a Z3. But who cares really, it's still dead sexy :D
AJ: Every year when yr 12 is leaving, it's a tradition that yr 11 (my grade) organises an extremely fancy lavish lunch for them and decorates the hall in a certain theme that is kept a secret throughout the year (James Bond 007, class of 2007, get it, get it?). It costs thousands of dollars in the end, and it's supposed to be one of the big highlights of the year for yr 12 just before they graduate. One of the girls in our grade dressed up as James Bond, and all 160 girls in yr 12 got in the car one at a time to take a photo with her, it was pretty awesome.

Nice choice of cars there AB.
I'm a big FJ fan having owned a couple. I've had an FJ40, FJ45, 2x FJ55 and also I had a HJ60 (owned the HJ60 for 2 days before I realised my mistake and traded it on my FJ40 for the same amount as I paid for it).
I'd love one of these P5B Rovers:

Posting about the 'Cruiser got me thinking about the things I need to work on to get the truck back in tip top shape, so I headed over here;
http://www.coolcruisers.com
To order some parts to rebuild the doors. That company buys LOTS of stuff from Australia and also manufactures some of their own parts. I also ordered the body mount kit to replace the worn ones on my truck. While I have the body lifted up, I am going to clean and undercoat the body and the frame. Once I get that done I am going to arrange for a paint job.
I also love the looks of that P5B!

Aston Martin DB6

Bumpers.
The DB6 used a new steel alloy that allowed Aston Martin to bend those bumpers with a tighter radius than before.
The DB5's bumpers are bigger because if bent to such a high degree angle, the metal would crack and break.
Ok, I completely made that up. Just wanted to post something. :?

Its a great car and I have a lot of money invested into it but the constant maintenance on it and all the small little things that go wrong with it from time to time really suck. But besides that it is one of the best cars I have ever driven. If you want to get an Audi the worst thing about them is the tire wear, I have the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 Tires on it that run $330 each and you have to replace them every summer. I drive it only 500 miles a month but the car weights it at almost 3700 pounds so it wears out the tires super quick. It also sucks gas like a truck and you have to use 92 octane on it, which also isn’t cheap.

What? I drive a '06 GTO that's that exact weight with 5,000 miles on it and I haven't gone through a set of tires yet. Also, when I say drive... I have my fun.
