This may be the first time many have seen me here,
so I'll tell you a little bit about myself and about my
newest WIP..
I've lived in Minnesota all my life with exception of
a brief stint in the ARMY. My work forces me to work
with MAC's.. I'm in Electronic Prepress Production ( printing ).
I'm definately a Geek and I think this may be my 13th or 14th
build since 1997. This will be my 4th mod, but hopefully my
best. One of the mistakes I've made with modding is not to have
a pretty full and clear picture of what I want. And I'm also impulsive,
which get's me in trouble because I end up adding things at the last
minute. Mostly my wiring suffer's because of it.
Anyways, I'll post my case pictures first, and the next post, I'll
give you an idea of my mod..
http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/1750/case001hl5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I got a Lian-Li V2000 Plus II.. man what a great case..
The penned circle in the front is a hint of what the first mod is going to be.

Rear view..
Tomorrow i will post the next portion..
Thanx for listening all !
lovely case, lot of posibilities in that:)... do you have som drawings or renders of what you are planning to do?
nice case...i plan on using one of those in my next project...i think... lol

The only drawings I have so far are scribbles that
would take a professional cipher to translate. IE-messy.. lol
I am planning to make better sketching's in Illustrator or
something to show better what I'm doing and to use as a template.
Most of the mods have been seen before for the most part, hopefully
with a little bit of a twist. Some I know I haven't seen before, so I'll
save those until they are done and add to my worklog.
I may do an overall sketch later on and add it.. Part of what I like about
worklogs is to see the pieces and parts come together to make the
concept work..
I'll add some more pix tonight after work and the start of the mod.
Man was I nervous making those first cuts with my dremel on such
a beautiful ( and spendy ) case.
:)
you should check out google sketchup
http://sketchup.google.com
completely free modeling program :D
http://scc.jezmckean.com/
and here they have a model of the V2000 case already drawn
w0lv3r1n3
09-24-2007, 11:29 AM
I do have that program.. I should do some of
the concept work there. I will still need to do some
in Illustrator or the like as I'm planning to possibly
get the Side Window and possibly other parts laser cut.
Thanks for the tip !

Ok first just a couple of pix of my workshop:
http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/9822/workshop001us1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Drillpress, Dremel, lot of assorted tools a vise and a scrollsaw.
I'd like to get a decent grinder soon also.
http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/1840/scrollsaw001tf9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Here's a closer look at the scrollsaw.. Works very nicely with Acrylic..

So the first step was to install the Mnpctech Billet Fan Grill..
http://www.mnpctech.com/MnpctechBilletFanGrill.html
And then the TurbineFan Mod also from MNPCTECH..
http://www.mnpctech.com/TurbineFanMod.html
Here's a few shots of it finished...

Dat case be pimpin'! It's got spinners and all dat cool ****, yo!
Seriously, that fan does look like a spinning rim, lol. Nice job by the way.
w0lv3r1n3
09-25-2007, 10:31 PM
Ok so next thing I did was to add a CMOS reset switch to
the the back of the case. I always mount them on the back of
the case, so that I don't get the " hey, what's this switch for?.. DOH ! "
It's real handy not only for OverClocking, but setting
up the system for the first time. I can't count how many times this
has been such a help.
Anyways, here's a few pix.
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/8774/switch001bk9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/3943/switch002us7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Here's a link to how to wire up one of these bad boys:
http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=100514
A few things.. Make sure you get a DTDP ( Dual throw Double Pole )
switch.. With 3 prongs. Also the last time I made one, I couldn't find
a 3-pin connector like they show. I used a 3-pin fan connector ( female )
instead.. Work's like a charm. You also may want to mark the orientation
When I get my motherboard and get more into the wiring
( I'm planing quite a bit of custom wiring on the mod ), I'll
post picture's and an explanation of how I do it.
That's it for now, I'll be posting my 2-bay graphical LCD mod next
installment.

.. AND ...
Here's why I called it "Project GIBFACTOR"
I've run a website all about Multi-Player Gaming
since 1998 Called Gibfactor. The term "Gib" started
with one of the original Quake Developer team member's
( ID Software )
and that's where I stole part of the name from.. lol
I also ran a Quake Clan back in about 2000 which
was called the same.. I am also currently running
a 24/7 FEAR DM Server.
The Clan is in the process of being re-activated,
so I thought it would be a good
title for my latest mod.

*EDIT* I ended up not doing this as I kind of Switched gears during the build.
I am keeping this here because i think it is a good idea. The only thing different that
I would have done is to have made the opening cut smaller on the one side to even it out
better.
Ok so next i was looking at the Deflector Shield
( Trekie's anyone? )
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/7659/case000kt9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
It's used to deflect the air appearently above the CPU, and since I am
going to watercool it, I thought about just removing it at first..
But then I remembered that I have one of these..
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/8531/alphacool01ml3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/2665/alphacool02yt9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
AN Alphacool Graphical LCD that WAS going to take up 2 bays..
So I taped the LCD and the Shield with Painter's Tape.. I like it better than
regular masking tape.. The marking on the sides are for the "Tab" I'll cut
out for the mounting...
http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/4089/lcdmod01pe8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Here it is ready to be cut out..
http://img300.imageshack.us/img300/5009/lcdmod02ah7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I used these alum spacers I got from Axman Surplus.. Bag of them
for like a buck, To mount the LCD to the Deflector..
http://img466.imageshack.us/img466/8850/lodmod050ef9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
I cut out the ends of the sides and then bent the "tabs" and then used
my drillpress to drill the holes.. Used the same type of screws ya use
for MB stand-offs..
http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/1544/led0002fw2.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Here's a few shots of what it looks like finished and put back in the case..
http://img454.imageshack.us/img454/7816/lcdmod04fn5.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/4457/lcdmod03gz9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Well that's it for now..
Let me know what ya think !

* * * UPDATE * * *
Yes, believe it or not, I have a few updates.
Sorry for being away so long, but due to many
things I have been away for awhile.
First thing, a few things have changed with the build.
One thing is that I decided not to go the water cooling route.
I wanted to be able to transport the system rather easily, and
did not want to have the added weight associated with a
water cooling setup.
Most of the info on the new system is in my sig, so not going to add
too much here other than the massive heatsink and fan required me
to move the LCD back to the front of the case.
Here's a pic of the front.
http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3636/img2489a.th.jpg (http://img23.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img2489a.jpg)
I replaced the fan in the back with a SilenX 72CFM - 14DbA ( nice and quiet )
I also replaced the stock fan guard with the Mnpctech "Targeted" 120mm Grill. Here's a pic of it.
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/9804/img2490rgo.jpg
That removable section underneath the Grill may be used in the near future.
Thinking it would look kewl to do a cut out down there and add a piece of
colored plexi there with some UV led's to lighten it up some.
I will be adding more pics of the existing system and I will be working
on the side panel shortly. Still awaiting a few things in the mail, but
I will certainly try to keep my worklog here up to date.
Thanks guys for waiting. lol
w0lv3r1n3
04-29-2009, 01:56 AM
Ok, so here is the fan I installed, you can also
see how freaking big the heatsink is.
http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/1272/img2494x.jpg
Here's a shot of the rest of the innards. I know... Messy.. We will be
cleaning this up later and covering ( stealth-ing.. lol ) it up with
mirrored acrylic.
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/9768/img2492y.jpg
But first we will be working on the side panel.. I love this Lain-Li case,
since everything is backwards & upside down, the window is on the Right
side.
I spec'd the side panel in Illustrator. However since i cannot print it out
at 100%, I will be using this to check my measurements while I work on it.
http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/1534/casemod.jpg
If all goes well, i will be starting the cuts on the side panel yet this week.
Hopefully i will have some new pix for you guys shortly.

Ok here's the start of the next mod I'm doing for the
Lian-Li Case.
Got the 120mm Blowhole kit from MNTech. Same place I
got the Nosecone mod I did on the front of the case.
Used that blue painters tape and drew the circle over it.
Used my Drill press to make a starter hole, and finished up
by using a Jigsaw to cut the circle out.
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/5369/img2504omy.jpg
A Closeup.
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/7707/img2502r.jpg
I'll be working on the inside behind the blowhole.. I mean ViewPort
throughout the week.. Need to cut some Mirrored Acrylic, drill
some holes and wire up some leds.. More pix when I've at least
got a good start on that.

looking very nice so far man

05-03-2009, 11:51 PM
Thanx Man.
The Metal was originally not as shiny. I used 400 and then 800 Grit
emery cloth. Then some very fine steel wool. I used Mothers Mag and
Aluminum Paste Polish to shine it up a bit. Wasn't looking for an OMG
Chrome Shiny.. So I think it came out good.

great work on the blow hole looks good mate
w0lv3r1n3
05-05-2009, 01:25 PM
Thanx. May work on the case again today.
Waiting on the Matrix Orbital GX Typhoon
I ordered to come in. Going to have to get the
main window done before I figure out where to
put it as the window is UV Orange. Not sure how it will
look just yet. If it doesn't look good, I will be re-locating
the LCD and use clear plexi.. We'll see.
w0lv3r1n3
05-07-2009, 02:43 PM
Well still working on the side panel, but I am getting there.
While waiting for the Dremel's to cool, I've been working on
the wiring for the leds. Here's a shot of the boards I use for
them. 2 sets of 3 ( with a resistor for each set ) for a total
of 6 leds per board.
Here's a shot of one of the boards.
http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/9504/img2511z.jpg
I received the Martix Orbital Typhoon in the mail yesterday also.
Pretty slick LCD.
I am also working on that back piece I mentioned earlier. Yeah.. I get
bored working on one thing at a time, so i've got basically 3 small
projects going on right now. As I get each one finished, I will post
the pix and ad a few notes about each.

cool
looking forward to seeing morre... good work
w0lv3r1n3
05-09-2009, 01:29 AM
Thanks.. Here's more.
Another board done. The flip side is mirrored
acrylic.
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/2362/img2513g.jpg
This one is going to cover the side of the upper bays where
the DVD, light controller and such are. The leds are UV and will
shine around the edge of the UV orange side window.
The previous piece has red leds and will be at a right angle to this
one. It will be covering the inside of the bays facing towards the
back of the case. I'll add more shots later when I get more of it
done.
w0lv3r1n3
05-09-2009, 08:28 PM
Installed the led strip and the mirrored panel
with the UV leds installed.. Here's some shots.
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/5862/img2516y.jpg
http://img22.imageshack.us/img22/4421/img2519njc.jpg
http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/2862/img2518d.jpg
I'm making a panel for the back next to the motherboard that will
cover up most of the wiring. Still waiting on a few parts to start on
the Matrix Orbital LCD and the handles to install on the top.
Since the case has wheels and is raised, I am going to wire up
some red leds to create a glow underneath the case. I did that
once with glow-wire, but wasn't happy with the results. Leds I
think will do it though.
DonT-FeaR

that mirrored plexi looks sweet good work mate.

Here's a shot looking through the A.C. Ryan Rad Grill.
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/254/img2520q.jpg
This one is on the side panel right over the heat sink & fan for the CPU.
You don't see the fan because it is inside the heat sink.
I am planning to install another Rad Grill in the top of the case, possibly
with a 120mm fan installed there also.
DonT-FeaR
05-11-2009, 03:06 AM
thats a cool window / grill thing
lol
looks cool... gives away enough but not to much looks good
w0lv3r1n3
05-11-2009, 02:10 PM
So here is the other led panel I installed in
the back of the case next to the Motherboard.
Covers the wiring quite nicely and finishes out the
look I was looking for. Just a soft glow coming from the
Motherboard. Of course the leds are the holy crap super-brights.
Thank god for the light controller, i just turn the knob down, and
it looks great.

Thanks Bro...
I agree that water-cooling would have been very nice.
My concern was to keep it lighter for transport to LAN
Party's. With what I would have done with the water-cooling,
it would have significantly added weight. My other case, which
is water-cooled is a Thermaltake Armour. One of those you never
want to move.. Anywhere. lol
dude... look at my sig picture... i have a friggin 120.9 radiator on the SIDE of my case! and i happily drag it to lans just beacuse of the "awsomeness" factor:D so quit your whining and come again when you got a case that weighs more than 39.5 kilo´s :D:D:D

Well i am happy with AIR for now. Maybe next build.
The Tuniq Tower 120 I have is plenty to Overclock

Everyone has their tricks to hide/stealth their wiring.
Here's a few of mine.
Here's the pretty standard one.
http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/1919/img2537k.jpg
I did take advantage of that led panel I made earlier to hide a bulk
of the wiring. The other thing I did was to run whatever wiring that
was needed in the front of the case ( LCD's, DVD Drive, Lightbus &
Multifunction Device ) through any holes that were available in the drive cage.
You could use a dremel ahead of time to make better openings if needed.
Just make sure to de-bur around the cuts so the cables and wires have
less chance of getting cut.
I for some reason had a surplus of Velcro, and while i was trying to
figure out where I was going to route some wires, the thought hit me.
Just cut one side of the Velcro, ( doesn't matter which ) grab the
wires/cables you want to tape up, and there you are !
I don't know why I hadn't thought of it before, But Velcro has some
amazing sticky stuff on it, and the rest of whatever it is made of is
real strong too. Will hold quite a few wires and or a few cables quite
nicely.
http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/714/img2533x.jpg
Another thing I did was to buy a power bus or extender.
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/4526/img2538s.jpg
One power cable in, many out. 4 Molex and the fan pin outs are
5, 7 & 12 Volt. Find a spot where there will be many power cables
and you can use this to cut down how many you need to route
back to the power supply.
The only cables other than that one I have forward of the Motherboard
are the SATA power cables.
Next installment I will show what I did to hide all the USB cables I had internally.

Yeah, I really like this one. I've used them before, Sunbeam makes
one but it only comes in Beige and it only has the molex power plugs.
This one is made by Bitspower and comes in like 5 colors ( LEDS ) and
I like the fact it has the fan pin outs in different voltages.

My front panel USB devices are:
Alphacool Graphical LCD
Imon Ultra Bay
Removable 7-in-1 Card Reader
and the Matrix Orbital Typhoon soon to be installed.
I certainly did not want to run 4 USB cables to the back of the
computer. More importantly i did not want to use up 4 USB slots
in the back of the board either. Most of these devices also have
the "A" connector. So I could not use the on-board connectors
either.
I did come across one of these:
http://www.mini-box.com/CAB-USB-5pin-typeA;jsessionid=ac112b801f4319da5af577aa41f291808 9ab73444dd6.e3eTaxiPc3mTe34NaheQc34Sa390?category= 20
This is a USB to 5 pin cable typeA. Connects to the Motherboard and you
can then connect the "A" connector from your device to this.
I am still stuck with having to use 4 of them, or am I?
http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/8717/img2531g.jpg
I found an old 4-port USB Hub I had laying around, used Velcro to
adhere it to the top of my DVD drive and then ran the cables on the
blind side of the case. Connected up the USB Hub and there ya go !
The Internal USB Hub allowed me to use only one USB slot on my
computer and cuts down significantly on extra cables running through my
case. I'll use an Acrylic Panel to hide it completely.

right, the Side Panel is pretty much done.
This is just a teaser for now, more work to do
before taking more shots.

You may notice a chrome tag just above the AC Ryan Grill. Got that at
Pepboys for $5. It is actually pretty nice for the price. It says:
"Limited Edition". It is not Chromed ABS, It is Metal.

Here's a shot of the Power Supply Bay. I cut out the area where
there was an area for a few small fans above the Power Supply.
I then cut a piece of Orange UV Plexi and bolted it in.
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/4991/img2551j.jpg
A closer look:
http://img246.imageshack.us/img246/381/img2550c.jpg
I also made a few panels to hang over the Power Supply pointing
towards the rear with a few UV & Red leds.
http://img527.imageshack.us/img527/5274/img2552z.jpg
Gotta do the wiring. Wire up the leds and make a fan
connector lead to hook up to the light controller.

Thanx Man !
The lighting is almost finished. The nice thing about the lightbus
is that it has 4 input lines. Each of the lines can be controlled
separately. Like the main back panel is on one line, and you can
change the intensity of the super-brights. They were a little too
bright, so I turned them down a touch. Still brighter than typical
red leds, but I like the setting now.
Here's a shot of the controller.
http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/1778/img2557x.jpg
I do have a surprise for the View Port later on. I haven't seen this
idea around at all, and am hoping that it provides the Look that
I want for it.
. . . Stay Tuned . . .

I forgot to show the handles I installed. Or at least better shots
of them. Here they are.. They look better in person and really
gives a good solid look to the case.
http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/3206/img2559g.jpg
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/5827/img2558z.jpg
You may notice the positioning of the handles... The case is back heavy,
so where they are located assures a clean balanced pickup of the case.
I have the cuts I'm going to do for the AC Ryan Grill on the blue

Because of the positioning of the handles, there seemed to be
something missing in towards the front top of the case.
Just got back from PepBoys again, and here is what I did.

OK the upper area is pretty much done with the
exception of the cutout for the Grill and the fan
install.
For the LCD area I used Acrylic Mirror mounted on top
of 4 clear acrylic cubes that you use for the clear cases.
I used spacers to mount the LCD and the orange plexi.
Same thing with the inner bay covers. Mirrored acrylic with some
UV leds, Orange plexi on top with spacers. i also used chrome
tape to fancy up the DVD drive some.
Here's some pix.

Thanks guys !
I finished the install of the top grill and fan. ( SilenX 38 CFM - 9 DbA )
Again Orange Plexi plays a part. This time in between the case and
the grill. On the inside, I installed a mirrored acrylic panel in the
inside top of the case to hide the bolts & nuts and to finish out
the inside better. There is also a nice grill on the inside.
Here are some shots.

A few more shots of the side window with the evil
looking reddish glow permeating the inside of the case.

It really does look Evil somehow in person. When I am done with
the mod, I will try to do it justice and do some timed shots on a
tripod and maybe a short video of it.

A few updates today.
I added a fan on the Motherboard side of
the case. ( left side on this case ) Seems to
help the temp a little.. Doesn't hurt to send some
fresh air behind the Motherboard if you can.
http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/754/img2606p.jpg
The fan is about in the middle of the North Bridge and the CPU.
For those of you that watercool, or are interested in it, Alphacool
I believe has a watercooler specifically for the Motherboard.
It's a cooler bag that sits behind it.
I also added an Acrylic Panel at the front top of the case. It covers
the dual bay LCD, and actually looks pretty nice. The Acrylic is a Transparent
Orange. Different than the rest of the Orange Acrylic.

Another update. And a few more pics this time because
I think it came out looking sooo cool.
I wanted to finish out the front nose cone, I mean fan area.
I cut a piece of the transparent orange acrylic to kind of make
it look like trim around the fan. Also I cut the fan hole in the acrylic
smaller to trim the inside a bit too.
Here's a closeup of it. I used some DragonModz Dragon Mesh. ( the same
mesh i used for the side fan in the upper right of the side panel ) on
the inside, behind the fan.
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/5127/img2622fdo.jpg
I also added a few UV leds to add a soft light effect under the fan.
http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/3016/img2621gbz.jpg
I would like personally thank Vernon "Twizted" Gibson from DragonModz
for making a custom Hard Drive Activity Array ( 10 led ). He did not have
one listed on his site. I shot him an email asking when they would be
available. He answered with "let me know what the specs are, and I
will be more than happy to make one for you.
I got a nice bay cover from MNpctech and drilled the holes for
the leds and then mounted and assembled everything.
Here are the results.

That's about it for now. This build is almost done. A few more
additions, and that should be it. Let me know what You all think.
I am thinking of the possibility of adding a plaque of some sort
on the other side panel signifying that this is the 10th Anniversary
Case Mod for Gibfactor. ( The FPS Gaming Clan I am Founder of )
Other than that, a few touch-up's here and there.
And almost last, but not least.. I have a surprise for the "View Port"
coming shortly.
Stay Tuned...
