Hey guys, Im new to this site, and new to computer building. Im intrested in building a gaming computer so I dont always have to buy a new console. That, and the fun it would be to build one. My friend vince told me this is the place to be if I ever had any questions, or needed any help. Well, this is what I have put together so far. I understand the pins and stuff fairly well, but if i looked over anything, please let me know. I appreciate any input, thanks!

What about an operating system, keyboard and mouse?

Sorry about that, I guess I should have included it. I will go with windows vista or XP. This computer will only have games on it. As for keyboard and mouse, I will get something geared towards gaming.

Back up system? you got one of them sorted, one the things what alot of people over look.
the differant ones are CD/DVDs, Second hard drive, remote backups and for redunancy RAID

and on a differant note. you will more then likely see a better usage if you get 2x 1gb sticks instead of 2x 512mb.. and you will get more wear out of em then 512s. also i would say a 1gb is more a must if thinking of running windows vista on the machine
huh? he is getting 2 x 1gb sticks....

:rolleyes:Not a bad build for a gaming system. I think there are a few parts I would make comments on.
Mobo - I would probably go with a 965 chipset otherwise you can grab some decent priced P35 chipsets which are suppose to replace the 965's in terms of overclockability and they support the new intel CPU's coming out. Just watch out because a lot of them that came out are for crossfire and if you are sticking with nvidia.. you dont want that :P.
RAM - I personally don't have any opinion on G-Skill because I have never worked with them but I do have a lot of experiance with corsair and mushkin. I love both, well mushkin a little better but dont tell corsair :D. I think mushkin offers good price for performance and overclockability. I recently purchased 2x2GB 6400 sticks for like $300 and they are set at 1.8v which is low so you can OC a lot.
HDD - 250GB is okay but with the prices now why not 500GB
Your screen name would make a nice name for a Computer MOD 8).

That was a lot of good info, I'll check some of that stuff out. As for overclocking, I know little to nothing about that.

Instead of a mobo with the 650i chipset, I'd go with 680i. Newer, better, you get the idea.
Spend a little more on the RAM and get something with better timings. 5-5-5-15 isn't all that bad or anything (actually what I'm running...) but you can do better for not much more. After you get tighter timings, overclock it a tad and you'll be good to go.

Whats up man! Looks like a pretty sweet system you have planned...here is a decent tutorial on overclocking for beginners...

I'm pretty sure I remember one of the regulars here putting together a little overclocking manual, but I can't find it right now. How's like in Louisiana? :)

Louisiana is still the same pal. Desiree says Hi, and uh..yeah. Miss you around here. I will probably find some different RAM. The one you showed me is no longer available. Take care of yourself man.

Definitely agree with the recommendations on RAM and newer chipset on the MOBO. Compare what you are spending on the PSU to the price of your RAM and it seems a bit out of balance. Is your budget limited at that? If no I'd find some top quality RAM to round it off. I'm sure others can give good advice on the specifics and also point to great MOBO's too.
Welcome to TBCS and best wishes with the build.

Just to keep this thread alive I will add my 2 cents... again.. :P.
I agree with Maleficus in purchasing the newest chipset but it is not the 680i. The newest chipset out is p35 which is compatible with intels new processors (45 nm) that are coming out at the end of the year. Also if you learn to overclock it is suppose to be just as good as the 965 chipset in those terms which up to this point is still the best for OCing.
The downside I find to the P35 chipset is if you plan to do SLI you will most likely have to do crossfire since a lot of the P35 boards I see are crossfire. If you are going with a single PCI-e P35 board though I think you will be happy.
