This is sorta an update on the whole break-in, computer stolen, I bought a new bike thread I started.

* Bad News: Well, the wife made me take the bike back and use the money for things we need around the house. Probably a wise decision, definitely the practical, reasonable decision.

* Good News: We are supposed to get the last of our insurance money sometime in late December/early January and I have been promised 5K for whatever my greedy little heart desires.

Obviously, I am looking into a LOT of different things (scuba gear, a new aquarium, new rifle, camping stuff, etc) but a new PC is uber-high on the list. I figure I don't want to go any higher than 2000 or maybe 2500. Short of looking at Tom's or Sharkey's for their rig config, anyone got any suggestions? Since my budget IS limited, I am thinking cheap ass ugly case, bulk up the proc and the vid.

I got a new PC, X2 6000+, 8800GTX, 8GB ram, 750gb HDD, DVD Burner, and MoBO for like 1500, so I think you can go all out if you want! :) I had a case, and PSU, but they arn't gonna cost you all that much.

I would get a C2E or C2Q, the highest models they have, An 8800Ultra (SLi perhaps), the best ASUS mobo you can find, as much RAM as humanly possible (XP can support up to 64gb with some tweaking), all kinds of storage (5tb at the LEAST, it's cheap nowadays too), etc. Basically build a rig (budget out 3k perhaps) that you won't need to upgrade soon.

Are you a gamer, a multimedia person or what?

Ill throw out the specs of the stuff im ordering for a new gaming rig that was budgeted at 1800 usd

4 gigs of ram (@ 1066)
eVGA 680i
eVGA 8800 gts 640
150 gig raptor
g15
g5
OCZ 850w
e6750
lian-li case
W.c loop (gfx,proc, & nb)

and enough for a 20" lcd, but im gonna get something slightly bigger.

Its a very reasonable build, as for sli, an ultra or a C2E they all are way over priced and I wouldnt even suggest any of them unless your going for straight up benchmarks.

Plus its cheaper then what you asked for, and will play most dx10 games at max or close enough you wont even tell the difference.
