Give One, Get One

Two-week program gives laptops to poor children for every one bought in U.S.

Soo... you're supposed to "give" one 1st, THEN you get one.
So they're cramming "goodness" down your throat either you want it or not.

And... it's for two weeks? Why?
And... it's for "poor" US kids?

Interesting article from the Hell-site man. :)

Curious... even if it's from Fox News, lol. Too bad it's a video though, I don't want ****ing Yuri mind waves coming at me or anything. My mind is messed up enough without being controlled by marketing monkeys. (Happens to be listening to Vicarious by Tool at this moment too... :F)

Thats great. I love the program. I think that is a good idea. This can open up so many opportunities for the third world. I am tempted to do this, good thing it is a month away, so I can try and find some money. I would have to mod it though ;). Not a fan of lime green, but this still would keep me connected when camping and stuff.

thats an interesting program. I wonder just how useful these computers can/will be. What if these kids cannot read?
Still it is interesting and a step in the right direction.

"And... it's for "poor" US kids?"

No, its going to third world country kids. Why it wasnt designed to help the poor and homeless kids in America/the country that the computer is purchased in I dont know...

Seems more of a selling gimmick rather then something out of courtesy.

btw you have to buy the solar adapter, but i figure the government of the third-world country would pay for it?

(saw the interview on fox news yesterday)

You forget, people seem to not like homeless Americans, that or they believe they don't exist... they'd rather give it to the "poor cute young (country name-ian here)" or something. Cynical, but can't be too far off...

It's a POS if they can give away half of their stock and still turn a profit... Who gives a rats ass about 3rd world countries? We need to take care of our own before we start reaching out. The kids over there are too stupid to know what to do with it let alone take care of it or do anything productive. Who wants to bet they are all broken within a month? Or the parents are going to take them away and use them as some kind of "water-getter-hard-square."

Also, I just thought... wtf are they going to do without internet? really? It will probably take them a year before they understand how to save a picture in paint. "I draw stick person. Stick person no come back. Ug." How ridiculous.

"I've seen a lot about these 100 dollar laptops, but I've never seen one." ...lol.

"if we can sell the 1st 100,000... the 1st million in a year...." He's shooting for some peeerty high numbers there... definitely a sign of a get rich quick scheme. He's probably paying what... 50 to 100 bucks per laptop? if that? multiply that by the difference in what he's getting for them minus shipping and labor. HA! Douche bag can shove his little green laptops up his ass and give them a crank.

Definitely a gimmick.

While I might not agree with the bluntness you state the lack of intelligence these people have (Keep in mind that here in America we have many things merely handed to us, or given much easier than people in third world countries. Just by living in America, even the poorest people here get things that some of the richer people in third world countries don't get), I do agree with the gimmick-ness and whatnot. However, you have to keep in mind that a Thrid World country does not particularly mean the types of people that might be considered uncivilized, unintelligent people. They just live in a state of poverty.

It reminds me -- I think they're the same laptops -- but a bunch of Nigerian kids got these and looked at porn with them. It thought that was kinda funny.

That is the funniest thing I've imagined all day. A bunch of kids looking at the laptop sitting behind the well while nobody else is around, lol. Hysterical.

It's hard to learn when there's no money for more than a basic edumucation... look at India and all the other places over there, they love to learn, I think we have too much handed to us over here, that and we live in too fast a pace... it gets annoying having to work almost all the time just to stay out of debt... well, not that I'm working right now, but it's tough living here... too much to keep up with, but I'm learning.

It's actually quite easy to learn -- anything. It just so happens that if you want to get somewhere in this country/life, you need these little documents saying that "you's smart". Those don't mean jack crap, though. I could be smarter than somebody else and not have my diplomas and whatnot. Especially here in America, it's quite easy to learn. Want to find something new? Go to Wikipedia and hit random page. Instant learning. The thing is, however, that in third world countries they might not particularly know of the great Google and Wiki... or if those sites even exist in their languages.

Interesting way of putting it... I'll talk more about it tomorrow, 2am is a no go for intellectual discussions for me. Just look at that poll that xenosagarox posted, ugh. I swear I need to get to bed by midnight from now on.

Those probably don't exist in their languages either -- that and you probably are right about one thing -- It's a get-rich-quick scheme.

I still think this is a good program. It is probable that the people and corporations behind these are making money off of them. That is how out economy works anyways. I still think these have interesting technology, and I find myself tempted to try and get one.
