Ok so I'm going to be starting my first mod here in the very near future. The theme is going to be NVIDIA so AKA Green Light. I wanted to start this log a bit early so that I can make sure that what I buy will be good for other mods. (Esp. the tools) The hardware that I have already bought are:
*Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz (1066 MHz FSB)
*256MB XFX GeForece 8600 GT
*XFX nForce 650i Ultra NVIDIA
*80 GB Primary HDD
*2 GB Corsair RAM (2 x 1 GB)
*80mm Antec Tri-Cool Green LED Fans (4)
*Antec 900 Case
And what I need to buy:
*320 GB Secondary HDD
*Monitors
*Lighting
*Siding
*New Dremel
*120mm Antec Tri-Cool Green LED Fans (4)
What I plan on doing is build an idea of what I want the modded case to look in SketchUp. (I'll post pics when I have time) I'm going to probably use an older case to make this modded one out of and use the Antec 900 Case to just house the guts for now. (I wanna use it :D) So I'm rummaging through some old cases that I have piled up in my room, seeking the perfect one. Although, I do have an Ultra Full Tower ATX case that my old "modded" computer is in. My dad is currently using it but I might use that instead of another older case because it has features like:
*Removable HDD casing with attached Fans
*Lots of room
*Fits any MOBO
*And has large clear side
If I use this Ultra tower, I'll probably take out the clear panel and change it to a green. Also, I'll be cutting out the top of the case to make that a window as well. Not too sure what to do with the front of it because it has a door on it, and I really don't know if I can do a door mod. :/
So I have alot of decisions to make but at least I'm headed in the right direction and I have a good plan that I will be following. Please make any suggestions or comments on my updates. (PICS SOON!)
Thanks everyone!!

QUESTIONS
Ok so I'm really debating whether or not to use water cooling. Ive been looking at Danger Den kits because I have been seeing alot of modders use that for the quality and price. They have a place where you can custom build your own water cooling system to fit your needs. The kit I made consists of:
Base Price = $52.95
*CPU Water Block Danger Den TDX
*Top Style Lucite Clear (WTF is this??)
*Video Block None (They dont have one for the NVIDIA 8700 GT)
*Fitting Size ½ OD High Flow Fitting for ½ ID Tubing
*Radiator Black Ice Pro 2 (Black) = $33.95 (This one is the Double one. Would it be better if I got the 2 Singles or the one Double?)
*Fans None (I just bought 4 120mm Green LED)
*Pumps DD CPX-1 12V Pump = $42.95 (Could I get something better for around the same price?)
*Reservior Single 5 Ό Bay Reservior = $29.00 (Is this really worth it? Or should I look to get a better looking custom one? Clear one mabe?)
*Reservior LED 2 X Green 5mm Molex = $5.00 (Cool? No idea about this either lol.)
*Tubing 10 Feet of Clearflex = $12.00 (Got more because I have no idea how much Ill need or mess up :P)
*Misc 12 Hose Clamps, Y & T Connectors = $9.00
*Total = $184.85 (Kinda affordable...)
I would really want to do some type of water die. Not really UV because I dont like the UV lights lol. So Im just thinking a green die will have a good effect. REMEMBER!! Im looking for like a starters kit but I dont want it to be crap.
Please suggest and comment.

but you dont have an 8700 and it wont be out for another month there not going to have a block for it for another 2 months minimum after it comes out and due to the fact that its a different board theyre not gonna make adapters for previous models danger den is probably going to be doing alot of testing on that card BEFORE they even announce that the block is coming out on top of that g98 will be out by then and the combine cost of an 8700 plus the cost of a brand new block would probably be give or take a hundred dollars less then a g98 that will have dx10.1 support and jsut have it aircooled
imo dont by an 8700 i actually want one cuz im stuck with my 7600gt and no more than 70fps on cod2 with 1280-1024 but i may get a ati board (i know im a nvidia fanboy i had nvidia spray painted onto the side of my case but i also love amd and i have 2x monitors and with vista they took out an option for dual display that converts the two monitors into one i think they called it span now they just have crappy dual view
good luck w/ the mod sounds cool

sounds like a good price/performance kit you got there.
Top Style – Lucite – Clear
all that means is its a clear top so you can see the coolant flow. Lucite is a type of plastic, here (http://www.guitarsandeffects.com/images/lucite.jpg) is a Lucite guitar.
*Reservior – Single 5 Ό Bay Reservior = $29.00 (Is this really worth it? Or should I look to get a better looking custom one? Clear one maybe?)
did it show a picture of it? most of those are already clear or can come in see through green, red, blue (i think).
i've only really done research (in terms of reviews) on swiftech stuffs so here (http://www.xoxide.com/swiftech-h2o-apex-ultra-extreme.html) is a good cpu kit for 239.99. plus with that pump you can add more water blocks/rads down the road without an upgrade. its a nice strong pump that alot of people use. here (http://www.overclockersonline.net/index.php?page=articles&num=360&pnum=0) is a review of the swiftech kit should you consider it.

Ya, I know I suck with the program. But I feel like I'm getting better with it as I make more stuff. I'll have pics of my workplace coming soon. I just need to finish my room and the work bench in my basement.
Also I'm buying a Dremel soon. I thought the were more expensive but only $44.99 for a 65 piece Craftsman one.

NO WAY!! The Antec case is wayyyyy to cool to kill. I'm killing that blue Chief Tech one. I'm still noob at Sketchup so im trying to make it look like the one I'm going to mod. The antec is for the parts (hardware) that will eventually be going into the mod because I really want to use em :D.
Still undecided on the watercooling. I'm looking at the DD set that I posted the specs earlier.
So I will be making more Sketchup of the case I'm going to mod soon.

kits/all-in-ones are junk j-junk! i thought i told you that already? maybe not. whats your budget for cooling?
a good setup can be had for 200 or so i think, otherwise go highend air, TRUE 120.
if you want to cool ONLY your cpu, not a quad, then here (http://www.jab-tech.com/Swiftech-H20-120-Premium-CPU-Cooling-Kit-With-Apogee-GT-pr-3644.html) is a good swiftech kit.

UPDATE - MODEL
Well I am officially getting my Quad Core :D. It is the Q6600 2.4 GHz, 1066 FSB. So if I do water cool it will need to be able to cool a quad. I'm still debating the setup I built on the first page from Danger Den. Just shooting around some ideas.
Spawn and Buddhist - I have a new design I've been throwing around. Same general idea, but a new front. No idea how to do it so I'll need the input.
Here is the front view. Obviously ignore the size. It is so I can get a picture of what I want it to look like. I would like to make it look like a stop light but only have the Green Light lit. Hence the name green light.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/newgreenlight1.jpg
Here in the side view you can see where I want to put the fan. It would be a green led fan and it would be mounted to green plexi there in the hole. Not sure what to do about the other 2 lights. Whether to keep them solid or use plexi and just not have them lit. (Clear unlit fans)
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/newgreenlight3.jpg
Another side shot so you get what I mean.

Maybe light all the windows with LED's rather than fans. Like the real "Stop lights" they could come on in sequence (controlled by a little timer/sequencer circuit) with just the green staying on once you have powered up.

Something like this could do it but it will cycle through all three lights (however you could set red and yellow to be on for two seconds and green for 25 minutes - it's very flexible).
You need a simpler circuit to just go red-yellow-green. All it has to do is time the red on for say 5 seconds, then yellow for 5, then green comes on and stays on so. There are probably a load of ways to do this with quite simple home made circuits but i'll leave it up to one of the electronic guru's like crazybillybob to tell you more.

With a simple home made circuit using one or two transistors, capacitors and a few resistors you can knock up what you need with parts from Radioshack (does it still exist?) for less than $10.
I can't design the circuit for you but I know there are peeps here who can.

1x Swiftech MCW60 VGA cooler (https://www.jab-tech.com/Swiftech-MCW60-R-VGA-cooler-pr-3777.html) = 43.99

3x YATE LOON 120mm Case Fan (https://www.jab-tech.com/YATE-LOON-120mm-Case-Fan-D12SH-12-High-Speed-pr-3771.html) = 9.45
total = $255.89
its $70 more but you will not be disappointed and it is alot better.
you should put the rad behind the lights and and use a red, green, yellow led 120mm fans, accept most led fans don't push enough air for rads.

If your going to be overclocking I'd suggest a Swiftech MCW30 or similar block for your northbridge. These can be had for like $20 in some places. If that is too expensive then perhaps a fan for the northbridge because its going to get hot overclocking and the 650/680's tend to run on the warm side to begin with.
Spawn's list looks good to me as well. Just remember Distilled water and not regular tap water.

dude thats a really sweet system. your backup machine is better than any machine i have.
but do you really want to give someone a compaq? wouldnt you really rather beat someone over the head? it will save them some trouble. jkjk
Seriously though. you have blue lights in the power supply and green fans. whats the paint scheme going to look like?

They PSU is just temp. I will replace it with another 650 W Antec like my other case has. Or a modular one. Still undecided. I want the case to be black. Side window will be clear green. 2 Green cold cathodes in it along with a few fans. I think I want the tubes to be lit. Not as much as the green but so that you can tell that they deff are lit.
Here is what the side will look like without the panel.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/Side2.jpg
The inside will also be black. I just made it gray so you could see the inside better. I like having the CDROM and the drive bays being that crazy green and the rest being black. Pretty much for accent. The rail will be black. Oh and the peices that mount the fans on the back (not in picture) will be painted green. I put a post up Here (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12976)
about what kind of paint to use on plastic and metal so we'll see what ppl say.
Now the front.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/Front3.jpg
Ill fix it up a bit more later but you can see that the bottom one (Green) is clear. I think if I just put like 4 LED's around the other ones (Inside the tube) and have them closed. It will look better because it wont be a mix of the green from inside and the red/yellow in the tube. Wacha think?

Thanks for the info!! I put my fan up to 60%. Gave me a few degrees less. What are you using to set your clocks and fan speeds?
So I did a bit of overclocking tonight... Here are the results...
CPU:
Start: 2.66 GHz
1066 MHz FSB
37 degrees Celsius
OC'd: 2.90 GHz
1160 MHz FSB
37 degrees Celsius
GPU:
Start: 650 MHz Core
950 MHz Memory
SPP PCI-E 2500 MHz
MCP PCI-E 2500 MHz
40 degrees Celsius
OC'd: 650 MHz Core
950 MHz Memory
SPP PCI-E 2625 MHz
MCP PCI-E 2825 MHz
41 degrees Celsius
I upped the fan from 29% to 60%. Still running fine.
RAM:
Start: 800 MHz
OC'd: 870 Mhz
Now this was nothing big. I just upped it enough to effect performance, but not temps too much. Also all of the temps are at system idle. I also ran the System Stability test to make sure all of my settings would be fine during a game. All changed and monitored using the NVIDIA nTune Application.
Thanks for the comments guys. It keeps me going!

UPDATE - LED's
Spawn I hope you read this....
Here is what I'm thinking of doing with the Red and Yellow lights
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/LEDs.jpg
If I get a fairly deep red plexi and put LED's in the sides of it. (4 to be exact) That will give me a decent glow from them. Not as bright as I want the green to be. But good enough to notice it.
Also I'm really trying to integrate the door into the design. Idk how but I'm sure I'll figure something out.
Also I'm thinking of trying out a new piece of hardware. Wireless Start Remote (http://www.xoxide.com/logisys-multifunction-panel-black.html) This way I won't have to open the front panel to power the system on. Its a though and its not too expensive either for just trying it out.
Suggestions please!!

You could always solder on a remote switch somewhere. It would be cheaper than a remote start. You just relocate the power and reset switches to somewhere that better suits you. Or you could spring load one of the plexi pieces and have the green light be the on switch.

not sure what your asking me but looks good to me, i would frost the LED's and maybe even get a sheet of clear/red Plexi and frost that as well for a nice glow look to it.
nice hardware btw, haven't looked at this for a bit, good to see its coming along! +rep.

ya. get some 500 or so grit sand paper and sand the led, it will make the whole led glow rather than have a focused beam of light.

hmm, i think the colour plexi will give a better look but if you can't get it then clear will do. as for clear leds with colour plexi i'm not sure which is better, if you have any coloured plexi try a clear led behind it and a colour (same colour) behind it as well.

I've never really done wiring myself... And do I need 1 resistor per circuit of 4 LED's? or just one?

ahh, i thought i saw you post that you got some of the free led's from lsdiodes closing.
when i was (still am) working on my case psu window mod i put 5 led's in parralellel so i used a resistor for every led.
i think i would go either colour plexi with white led's or clear plexi with coloured led's. and of those i would try for the coloured plexi for a more even glow.

yup, on the 5volt line (red wire) use this resistor calculator (http://led.linear1.org/1led.wiz) to find out what resistance you need the source voltage (5v), diode forward voltage, diode forward current (mA).
just to be clear you only need to use 1 side, not both.

I like the idea of the stop-light mod. Heck, I love the idea. Completely original.
If you can pull it off, I would like to see how it turns out.
Currently, I think that a few zip ties and a round IDE cable would really help your current case out. Then again, I can't talk because the only cable management I've ever done is the ones coming out the back of my case (and up through the desk.)

UPDATE - CABLING
Well now that I'm on break I can FINALLY work on my mod. Thanks to CerealKlr for helping me find the sleeving I needed, I bought it and started to sleeve all the cables in my case.
(Side note: My camera died so I have to use my sisters old one... not the best quality but you get the gist.)
Here is a picture of the table I got for my room. Helps a lot to do everything on a table :D.

And here are some pics of the cables once the shrink tubing is shrunk. (sounds funny lol) and yes I did the cables to my Cathode lights and to the switch.

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0017.jpg
This 8pin is gonna be hard.... My dad said he has some 1/2" shrink tubing at work that should be able to go over it.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0015.jpg
Same with the 4pin aux power cable. Got the sleeving on it but need the shrink tubing.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0019.jpg
So I decided to do ALL the cables in the case with this. Would that look good? Here are some shots of the cables I wanna do.

What do you guys think? Should I sleeve them too? Or some? Which? Input keeps me going :D
I'll probably go to the store with my dad tonight or tomorrow night and see about getting paint for the case. So far I can't find a good green that I like. So I'll worry about the black for the case for now.

Good thing the hobby shop is close.
I'll have some more close up shots once I find the rivet gun. My dad says there is one here but I don't think so. I think its at our other house up north... So I won't get it till like Sunday. I just wanna get it together and look at its beauty lol.
So until then I'll be waiting for some more sleeving to come so I can finish up all the other little cables in the case. And I'll post some more shots once I get it together. Then next moth I'll probably start a bit more on designing the front and how its gonna work.
Till then,

UPDATE - ASSEMBLY
Well 1st off I got so pumped about my PSU paint job that I put it together without the fan guard :dead:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0063.jpg
So I slapped it in and now its all good.
My dad felt kinda guilty about not having a rivet gun here so he went out and bought one.

PS. I had to do this 3 times to get enough screws. :dead: Felt like forever for all of them to dry.
I then put some of the spraypaint into a little plastic container for touch up. Also I painted the rivets that I put in on the green supports green. (Another accent idea)

If so, do you think I should do all of the rivets in the green? It would deff make the back stand out more.
Oh wait one more!
Do you think I should paint the ESATA and Cathode Switch panels in the back green as well? They are the only silver back there and I don't think it would be too hard to do. And what about the Mobo port panel?
Recap pic. (bottom)

The black and green look great. And the accent pieces look very nice. But I would take anything thats left silver and change it. The black and green go well together but I knew something about that back panel looked off.

I say paint the I/O cover and the riser card panels, will definitely complete the look. It's easy to take the back covers off the video card and eSATA card. Just unscrew the the threaded stand offs that the DVI plug screws into, and take the screws out on either side of the eSATA port.

UPDATE - NEW IDEA
OK.... so I sat down with my dad and showed him the front panel of the case and my drawings in sketchup.
Here is what I showed him.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/front.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/origional.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/origionalangle.jpg
And yes I worked on this drawing like ALL last night.
After closely examining the panel he said it couldn't be done. The reason is because of the way that the door is held on. it not a hinge or anything like that. Its held in with pressure....
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0085.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0084.jpg
Couldn't get a great pic with my sisters camera...
So here is my dads idea:
He suggested that I keep the door the way it is. And put the 3 lights at the bottom. Like this:
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/Frontangle.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/frontblack.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/black.jpg
(The gray area will be black. Its just gray so you can see the tubes.)
Now I wanna know what ya'll think about it. If anything else... Imma just paint the front the way it is. With the middle being green and the surrounding areas be black.
Here's my idea for the lights:
Make the POWER indicator be the Green light.
Make the HDD indicator be the Yellow light.
Make the Red light be the... something. (suggest please)
Do you think this is too much lights going on at once?
I can add more LED's to the ones that are already there and put them in the plexi to give the lighting effect I want. (The way Spawn showed me)
So lemme know what you guys think so far. If you have another idea for the front please tell me. All help is welcome!
Till then,

Who's to say you can't install a hinge on the door now, and keep your original idea. I like that idea much better, the new one doesn't really get the point across and think you'd be shortchanging yourself to pare down the idea. It certainly isn't impossible. Personally as a modder I have an issue with the concept of impossible, I rather like doing the "impossible".

I vote the first option as well.
And for the third light you could do dvd and cd drive activity.

There inlies the problem. The hinge is on the side of the PC that has the window... which is the side I have to open to get in the PC. So unless you know of some hinge thing that will work... idk what to do :(

Then I painted the plastic rivets on the door. They add a wicked touch to it.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0120.jpg
Also i really didn't like having that Red ESATA cable chillin' in there so I sleeved it.

UPDATE - ANOTHER IDEA
Well I've been thinking about my new idea and I just couldn't help how it just didn't look right to me. So i started playing with the mod in Sketchup and I think I found the winner.
**The gray will be black. Its just gray so you can see it better**
I decided that it would look ALOT better if I didn't have the tubes out so far. So I make them 2.5" in diameter and 1" long. I think it looks good. What do you think?
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/goodidea.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/goodideaside.jpg
I think this will also make it so you can see the light from them much easier. I'm about like 80% sure this is what I'm going to end up doing. But here is my list of things left to figure out.
*Where to remount the USB/Firewire that was in the front?
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/frontold-circle.jpg
*How to make it so you can't see the light from the fan in the front, and so you cant see the light from the front inside the case? (The lights in the tubes in the front and the fan in the front of the case.)
- I think I can solve this by just putting a piece of plexi that I painted black on both sides at an angle. This way the fan will still get air from the bottom of the case.
*What do with the glaring empty green space on the front of the case?
- I was thinking about putting some kind of decal there. Maybe the name of my mod? But how ever would I do that?
*Thinking of putting in a lighted switch for my power and reset.
- I need to research this because idk what size I need or what kind. Any help on this would be most appreciated.
Lemme know what you guys think.
Till then,
-Fuga

pretty sweet idea fuga! Don't think i've ever seen one like this. :) Are you planning to do any special sequencing on the LEDs in front? Would be kinda neat if they lit according to HDD or CPU or networking usage, etc. :) Anyways, great design! +rep. :)
Fuganater
04-20-2008, 10:54 PM
Thanks CerealKlr!
I think this is gonna be the final layout of the lighting:
*Green - This will be the power light.
*Yellow - This will be the HD usage light.
*Red - This will be the CPU usage light?
The only problem is... I have no idea how to wire the one for the CPU. For the Power and HD lights the cables already exist. So just adding some LED's will be easy. If anyone knows how to do this please explain it or link me to it. You get +rep for the help too!
What about a green yellow red acrylic fan grille? then place white leds in a clear plastic fan.
That way the light out the front is the color of the acrylic and the circles are functional (ie they are fans :D)
Also the opposite side of the fan can be coated or grilled with green to match the interior colors of the case
example
green acrylic grill | Fan | red acrylic grill
green acrylic grill | Fan | yellow acrylic grill
green acrylic grill | Fan | green Acrylic grill
the sides of the fans could simply be painted or blocked with a trim to stop white light leakage
I also have an idea for the rest of the front
what about a walk/don't walk setup
also the power indicator used for one of the lights might not be that exciting because well its on all the time except when its off
If there is a way to indicate each hard drives activity, that could be used for something too. that could be cool.

UPDATE - FINAL MODEL
So I worked like 5 hours on this model today. Not great but I deff learned a lot doing it. Also I did find a rendering program called IRender which is a Sketchup Plugin. Link (http://wiki.renderplus.com/index.php?title=IRender) Also I have been talking to Dark~3nergy and he told me of a program that is free to use to render. The one he told me is Kerkythea 2008 (http://www.kerkythea.net/joomla/) and I found another called Blender (http://www.blender.org/). Hope they help someone.

Not great but its a good start for me.
Tonight I'm going to start the measurements for the front plexi and make the markings to drill for the tubes. I also ordered 100 LEDs from www.ledshoppe.com and my 3 colors of transparent pelxi from www.estreetplastics.com. I bought enough of each so I can experiment because I've never done it before. So I'll be able to get some practice in. So might be another update tonight or tomorrow :D
Oh almost forgot!! I will be mounting the extra 80mm fan I have to the top of the case to be a vent. I'll make a pic of my airflow sometime soon. But I do need help... I have NO idea of what kind of fan grill to put on it. And I don't have the resources to make my own. Any suggestions? (Exact grill suggestions would be appreciated)

Maybe its called something different here, but that front panel and the case for that matter is called the Antec 1080 server case - its been at least 4 years since i got that case lol bloody americans, calling things by different names lol

After the cuts.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0155.jpg
After it was all done it looks awesome! Left enough room for the epoxy to hold it on nice and tight. Now for more planning.
Here are some items I bought.
3" and 2" PVC Piping.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0160.jpg
I got 2 sizes because I didn't know which one I would need.

More painters tape.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0157.jpg
My marking for where the tubes will sit on the front pelxi.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0158.jpg
My dad is going to take the 2" PVC pipe to work tomorrow and get the guys there to cut it for me on the band saw. The sections are going to be:
3- 1" sections
3- 1 1/2" sections
3- 2" sections
We figured because I have 2' of the PVC, mind as well use it. This way I can see what size looks the best in real life because its way too hard to tell in Sketchup.
Now for the interesting part. I wanted to see what the case would look like if I had a UV light in the case. So I grabbed one of my blacklights off of my wall, dusted it off lol, (haven't used it in like years), and put it by the case. Here are the results.
UV light, Case Lights off

UV Light + Case Lights on
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0167.jpg
No UV Light, Case lights on
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0168.jpg
Which do you guys think looks the best? If I would get a UV cathode kit, it would probably be this one because it has a switch like the green lights do to turn it on and off. UV Cold Cathodes (http://www.crazypc.com/products/8240UV.html) They are the exact same make as my green ones which I am EXTREMELY impressed with. And for the placement... idk. I would probably put one on the top of the case and one at the bottom. What do you think?
And don't forget TCBS! I still need some help finding a sweet fan grill for the top of my case. It has to kinda blend in. If anyone could "make one" I would be more that willing to pay for it and the shipping :D Please post your ideas.
wow, i haven't seen thing case in a while and its come out really nice. i like that colour of green and the black. +rep and i gotta watch this more often.
Great to see you watching again Spawn. You've helped me a lot earlier and now I'm going to be doing the LED's soon so I might need to call upon your services again :D
Now watch for an update Saturday or Sunday. I'll be doing some more measuring, adjusting, calculating and seeing what looks the best. If I can get a hole saw for the plexi I'll even be cutting this weekend.
Till then,

UPDATE - FRONT TUBES AND TOP FAN
Finally got the tool and stuff needed to get the front moving along.
Hole saw set from Harbor Freight :D Can't beat a sale like $9.99 for $2.99!!!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0202.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0203.jpg
Goes from 3/4" to 2 1/2".
Like I said before, my dad took that PVC piping to work and the guys there cut it for me. Into 3: 1" pieces, 3: 1 1/2" pieces, and 3: 2" pieces. 3
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0173.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0174.jpg
So here are the pics that i used to decided on what size I was gonna use.
1"

2"
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0180.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0181.jpg
In the end I decided on the 2" tubes. They gave the best depth and anymore would make it look funky. So having decided on that I drilled the 3 holes in the piece of plexi that the tubes will be attached to.
Remember I have limited room... so anything becomes my bench lol. In this case its the edge of my front porch and a block of wood.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0193.jpg
All cut and sanded smooth.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0194.jpg
Epoxied to the faceplate.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0195.jpg
I'll have some more pics of it when it finally dries. Takes 7 minutes to set but 24 hours to fully dry.
Now for the top fan. I've never worked on aluminum before so this was a learning experience for me. Here are my measurments plotted out on the top of the case.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0183.jpg
I tried to use the 2 1/2" hole saw to try and cut down the cutting, but the plastic and metal bit had little effect on the aluminum :(
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0185.jpg
So we had to do it the hard way... they way I've never done before. Wait what am I saying?? I've never done ANY of this before lol!
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0186.jpg

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0192.jpg
And this is where my dremel skills stop. I'm not that good with it so I did my best. So to cover my lack of cutting a circle skills, I purchased a case grill. I asked for suggestions but got none, so I just got a cheap biohazard one from FrozenCPU. It will cover up the edge so it will be ok.
Here's what it looks like now with the fan in.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0197.jpg
Oh ya.. and I messed up when drilling one of the holes... noob. So I hope the grill will cover that up too.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0198.jpg
I also sleeved the wires for the fan.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0200.jpg
And a top pic before the repaint.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0201.jpg
Ill probably paint the screw green just like I did for the back of the case. Should look ok in the end.
I also ordered a set of 12" UV cathode lights from FrozenCPU that will give me a huge improvement on the inside look of the case. I asked everyone in my class and they all said with the UV and lights. :D
And the last thing I did today was paint the other side of the rear I/O panel.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0196.jpg
I kinda forgot to do that before
One thing I am throwing around is redoing the switches for the power and reset. I found some that I like on Performance-PC's website that look good but idk how to do it or if they are the right ones. I'll be watching and searching other mods tomorrow to see if I can find some hints.
Well thats all for today. Got alot of work done :D I can't wait till I get some time, hopefully Tuesday, to mount the tubes to the front. Then after that I'll be putting on bondo.
Till then,
-Fuga

UPDATE - FINAL PANTING
Sorry I haven't updated in a few days. I was waiting for things to come in and I was lazy and didn't feel like uploading the pictures to Photobucket :P

Here you can see the excess.... I'll have to shave and sand that off.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0214.jpg
Then I started the bondo on the front. :Note to self, never use this stuff again: This was by far the "hardest" part of my mod. Trying to put the bondo around the tubes was murder. And even harder to try and sand it smooth. Came out... ok...

All done :D
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0258.jpg
I just have to hand paint the inside. Pics in the next post.
Then I was thinking. What could make this even cooler? How about a DVD Drive paint job? Ok lets do it!
Here it is before it gets blown apart. (Not literally lol.)
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0255.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0256.jpg
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0257.jpg
I decided to only paint the face plate of it. Not the drive tray. I think it would look cooler by keeping the try black with a green face plate. I still need to put another coat on it so it will be in tomorrows update.
I also got an extra face plate with my media card reader so I got that out and will be painting it green tomorrow. Not worried about the writing on it. If it don't fit try another slot lol.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0264.jpg
Now for something a bit better looking... the lights :D I tried a few combos with the UV and the Green lights and found the best combo is with the green ones in the back, and the UV in the front.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0245.jpg
Looks good don't you think?
And here is the top fan.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0246.jpg

Got some more painting done yesterday. Didn't have much mod time due to the rain Saturday so I had to cut the grass Sunday and I had a hiring event with the Apple Store.
I had an extra faceplate to my Media Card Reader so I painted that green.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/Fuganater987/Computer%20Mod%20Progress/IMG_0264-1.jpg

UPDATE - KEYBOARD MOD
I think this will make my mod shine just a bit more. You remember that keyboard I bought? Well after a nice paint job it looks pretty sweet. Here are my steps.
Get a plain black keyboard. (Cheapo Logitech)

Open it up.

All off!

Random shot of the little circuit board inside.

I kept the bottom black for 2 reasons.
1. It was cheaper not to paint it.
2. It looks better half and half.
Hope you like it :D Next mini mod to do... a mouse :D

UPDATE - LEDs
I finally got my LEDs from ledshoppe.com.... didn't know they were coming from friggin HONG KONG!! Here is the diagram that I figured to use.
The LEDs have to be in parallel because the voltage coming off the board is only 5V. Not thrilled about that but it is what it is. (I'll have a better drawing posted tomorrow. I'm lazy right now lol)
+ -|>|- -/\/\/\- + R = 56 ohms
5V + -|>|- -/\/\/\- + R = 56 ohms
+ -|>|- -/\/\/\- + R = 56 ohms
+ -|>|- -/\/\/\- + R = 56 ohms
My dad is getting me the resisters from work tomorrow and hopefully Tuesday or Thursday I'll be able to mess with them and see what works. So more later this week.

If I read your circuit diagram for the LEDs right, you'll have to change the position of the resistors as the current will have passed through the LED's before reaching the resistors. While your at it, you could also eliminate 3 of the resistors by placing one on the 5 volt line, like this:

This is how I set up the LED's in my Xbox mod, which is the same thing as your doing.

Interesting... Everywhere says to put it on the Negative side. You put it on the Positive side. What is the difference. I have it on the Negative side and they work fine.
