I got a passche VL a while back, but now, when i use it, not much paint comes out, and not very evenly. sometimes almost none will come out, then tons will. im guessing the internals are dirty. Everytime i use it, i fill up the little glass cup with water and go through atleast half a cup full to clear the paint up, but is this not the right thing to do? i opened it up as much as a icould, but i didnt get to the internals to clean better. any help would really be apreciated

Fill up half a cup with Windex and spray that through. Also, if you're using straight tap water, you might get some mineral buildup. Distilled is what you should use.

This should help.

It sounds like it may be dirty. Clean the needle and the tip. If That doesn't do it check the needle to see if it is bent. If it is you should get a new needle and tip.
For a Paasche VL a new needle and tip shouldn't be very much.

Also make sure that your using "airbrush" paint, or that you strain the paint you use before filling the airbrush's cup. Regular paint's pigments aren't ground as fine and some times clump up in the bottle. This will cause the needle to become clogged while your trying to paint.
How to airbrush is a good site for basic research (like replacing needles, and tearing down the brush for a good cleaning)
Here's a link to there cleaning page... (http://www.howtoairbrush.com/clean.html) should get you off in the right direction.
