Heya, I'm planning on purchasing a new PC come Christmas, and am thinking of going with a water cooling solution for the processor and chipset. I will be oc'ng the Q6600 over 3.2ghz (hoping to hit 3.6), so I'm just wondering if there was anyone with any experience with water cooling that could recommend some products to me. Thanks.

just cpu and northbridge? what mobo you planning on going with? budget?

im not sure what mobo yet, but i am planning on getting 2 x 9800gtxs when they come out in christmas. probably a p35 or a 680, not sure tho, i know that i have to be careful with the northbridge because some mobos have it so that the gfx cards covers it so cant mount the waterblock on to it.

what i really need is sorta a rough estimate as to what im getting into. my budget would be around $300-400 range including the tubing and stuff.

the p35 doesn't support sli so thats out of the question.

here (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showpost.php?p=143217&postcount=8) is the setup i'm getting minus a 8800GTX block, though i think i will be waiting for the newer cards too, it will take long to save up the cash so might as well.

yeah, im planning on holding out for the 9800s coz not many games support full dx10 yet. as for the p35 mobo, are they gonna make one that support sli in the future?

They might, but probably not.

To get an idea of a full-out setup, here's mine.

EK-Wave CPU Block - $52
Hydor SELTZ 35 - $64
2 Black Ice Pro Compact rads - $55
2 Swiftech MCW30 chipset blocks - $60
Swiftech MCW60-R GPU block - $45
10ft. PrimoFlex UV Blue tubing - $20
32oz. FluidXP+ UV coolant - $20
(Homemade res) - Free
Various clamps, fittings, etc. - $30 (Overcompensating a bit there, but it's better to have too much than not enough)

~$350

hey cool, that looks pretty good, wat is the HYDOR SELTZ? And also, how did u make your reservoir?

Pump. Sorry, I should have clarified.

And I haven't made the res yet, but I'll be using some of the blue plexi I'm using in my project.

I heard plexiglass warps and stuff, is that true?

It depends on what you mean. If there's constant pressure on part of it, yes, it will warp, but so will anything else. If it's mounted and made right, it should be fine. Most res's I've seen are plexi, and it's what TO uses in all of them.

with excess heat it would warp too, but there isn't enough heat in the water system or pc case to do anything like that. and like maleficus said a lot of commercially sold res's are plexi.

Ah neat, is there a guide/walkthrough on the specs required to make an efficient reservoir? Not too familiar with the physics behind a good reservoir, thanks guys!

Another question: Do I need intake/exhaust case fans if I use a full liquid cooling solution? Thanks.

i'm not sure if there is one here but if there is it will be in here (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=38)

i would still use fans for intake/exhaust since there are other components that heat up like chipsets and such. it also depends on where you place the rad, since i'm looking at getting(when everything else i want is bought) a 120mm rad i will be placing it at the back like this (http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/images/products/H20-120-COMPACT_03.jpg) .

If you are using performance a performance radiator such as a Black Ice Xtreme like me you should use a fan on it, much more efficient. You should also have an intake fan because your HDD's are usually located at the front of the case where the intake fan is, the HDD's get quite hot so it is always good to air moving over them. Like spawn said your chipsets will heat up and you don't want that. Something that people usually overlook while cooling is your RAM, good airflow around your RAM will give you more headroom while overclocking and may stock your system locking up in some cases.
