Hi all
This is going to be my first major type of modding project. I have always painted my computers and minor stuff but you guys have given me the drive to do more.
Here's a pic of my laptop I did. I am a BIG Ohio State Buckeyes Fan!

Here's our current test subject. It was thrown together by me with pieces and parts I scrounged up for very few dollars.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z198/shooterpics/demon1.jpg
It is running:
Biostar U8668-D Mobo w 1.5 ghz P4
512mb DDR memory
PNY nVIDIA FX5500 128mb AGP 2x/4x Video Card (on the way)
More updates later.

Biostar! Ack!!!
Nice paint on the laptop though. :)

I know. The Biostar was dirt cheap. I am looking for another but don't want to spend much. I have too many other things that really need my money.
Thanks for the props on the laptop. I'm still proud of it! I did it about 2 years ago and it has held up well. It has about 8 coats of clear on it so It should stay nice.
My son and I like to customize our stuff. I have painted gunstocks, remote control cars, bikes, cellphones and even a couple of eMachines! I did do a monitor once but the boy beat it up in no time.
Where's Nerk? Do you mean Newark?

I am thinking of Flat Black with a UV red accents in this beast. I am trying to figure out if I should cut a window or maybe just add some fan holes. Window would be cool for UV stuff inside.

UV red may come out looking pink, just be careful of that. :)
Windows always look good, but remember to consider not only the shape/size of the window, but the placement to make sure that you have a window showing something interesting/attractive.

Good points! I ordered
-Red UV Reactive Neon Spiral Wrap
-Deluxe Ultraviolet (Black) 12in Cold Cathode Light Kit
-Red Lazer LED Case Mod Kit
The red lazer is for the air holes in front on the bottom.
I am going to check out to see how the red uv wrap looks on it before I go much further.
I have decided to go with a flat black for the inside of the case. I think it will intensify the uv look. I'd like to paint the edges of the comp cards(agp, pci) with a UV paint to highlight them but not sure where to find it(tried looking a Hobby Lobby today) Would plain old white work? Just trying to come up with original and cool looking ideas. Any suggestions?

Another option is to make card covers from UV acrylic; there was a tutorial in another thread a little while back.
I think Xoxide sells UV paint that dries clear, and is only visible under UV, and Metku.net did a tutorial a while back about tracing PCB lines with UV pens to make some interesting patterns.
*edit* Woot! 1200 posts! *

Looking forward to this, I love the red/black look.
Biostar hasn't failed me yet, though I've only had one of their boards, and it's not in my main rig. They're cheap but solid, in my limited experience.

Thanks Luke122 I just ordered a bunch of stuff from Xoxide. Now I'll go back and find more!:p
Fuzzy- I am happy with the Biostar so far. I am not a huge gamer, though I have been hooked on Marine Sharpshooter2. I mostly surf and backup dvd's. It has been great.
I always like a black and red scheme on anything. So when I saw I could do UV too it sounded like a plan!

Well. . you could convert that hard drive enclosure into a roto-barrel fan. :)

Great paint job.
1 coating?

Paint looks good. I would recommend doing a few coats, sanding and such in between. Also hitting it with a few coats of clear will help the paint resist some scratching and chipping and such. I learned that the hard way.
If you did that then great. But if not I'd def recommend that, or the places you will notice it the most is where you screw your drives in. The pressure from the screws might chip the paint off there.
But looks good. I like that color.

Yea Its just one coat of flat black. I am still undecided on if I'll leave it that way.
I'm going to wait and see how it looks with the lights in it.

Ohhh, I thought it was like a navy blue. Flat black is cool. Just the lighting from the flash probably. Looks nice anywho.
Ya, just be careful with your screws and such. Sometimes it chips sometimes it doesn't. Just giving you a heads up

Well had a bunch of parts come in. Good and bad. The wire wrap I got was supposed to be red but its more like orange. bummer.
So I nixed the UV light and ordered a couple of red CCL's.
Got my Nvidia Geforce FX5500 128mb video card in, love it.
I also got a PCI IDE card. you cn never have too many hard drives! Running 3 right now
I also got some lazer red led's for the vent holes in front on the bottom. Lights up ok but I think I'm going to add a mirror inside to add refectivity. Tht ought to brighten it up a bit.
Here's some lame pics of my progress- I hope to start cutting the window this weekend, I think I'm going to do a custom frosting of a tattoo I have. Pic of it below

Update:
Red neons will be here tomorrow. I also went and bought a new mobo.
PCCHIPS INTEL P4 HT FSB800 DDR400 8X AGP MOTHERBOARD MODEL M952.
I'm going to give my son my Biostar as his comp doesn't have an AGP slot. He needs a better video card so he can play Marine Sharpshooter2. I have a spare 64mb Nvidia Quadro4 to put in his.
Any comments on the PC Chips mobo?
Will get some more pics up later this week.

Well got my neons and went and took the leap. I cut my window out today. Came out pretty nice I think. I am going to use spray on window frosting to do the demonchild tattoo on the inside of the window and get the window in this weekend I think it going to come out pretty nice.

Well Demonchild is finished for now. I will probably do some minor stuff like filling in the front panel for a smoother look but the window mod is complete. I am very happy with the way it came out,
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z198/shooterpics/demonchildisborn.jpg
This is when I had cut the pattern out and started removing the tape where I wanted frosting.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z198/shooterpics/demonchildisborn2.jpg
Alot of tape to peel here but it was worth it in the end.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z198/shooterpics/demonchildisborn5.jpg
Here is after the frosting was applied and I started removing what was left to stay clear.
http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z198/shooterpics/demonchildisborn10.jpg
This is the window installed. Right now it is taped in. I don't want to pop rivet it. Can anyone suggest and good glue to use?
What do you guys think? I have that same image tattooed on my arm, which is where I got the idea from. I used a aerosol spray frosting for the window and it came out nice. I am very proud of it! Thanks for all the advice and help, couldn't have done it without this site!

Nice job. I've tried using that spray can frosting before. -Did you frost the front or back side. I noticed that it scratches pretty easy so if you did it on the front. you may want to put a thin layer of plexi over it to protect it. -IF its on the inside, then just be carefull when you work inside the case.
-Great design though! +Rep

I did it on the inside. Yea it does scratch easily. I thought about adding some clear polyurethane over the inside to protect the frosting. I am pleased with it. I had a time cutting and peeling all the tape to mask it. Next time I will use frisket or some sheet good stuff. That 3/4" tape made it difficult to do but it worked. My sons computer will be next. Its a Compaq from wallyworld but it will be more experience so it'll work for a canvas, haven't figured out what were goung to do to it yet. Probably a BMX theme since he's addicted to that. Thanks for the rep,I need it!
