First to let everyone know if you want windows 64-bit go to microsoft.com they will let you download it and they send you a seiral number.

I just upgraded to a giga-byte GA-K8NS mobo with Athlon 64 2800+.
i downloaded xp 64-bit from microsoft, I had problems finding drivers for the ethernet and sound, so I went back to xp pro. If anyone know where to get them or has any help all will be thanked

so far they dont have a lot of drivers for xp 64bit. a friend of mine has a 64 bit and installed the win, but didnt find any drivers either. he said it was really fast but without drivers he couldnt play games and do anything more serious on the machine. what a shame....

ethernet and sound drivers should be available from giga-byte, the win xp ones "should" work just fine. Or simply give it a bit more time.

what about all the other drivers like video, sound and all that?

all is working fine except my webcam no big deal i dont use it anyways, there is no onboard video, my old video card was too old of a agp to use so i'm using a 2 mb pci card for now, onboard sound is running fine no problems so far. Now i have a problem with the network, from my laptop i can access the 64 bit windows machine fine and can see all the shared folders, but on the 64 bit machine i can't even see the laptop, thrying to figure that one out than i can ghost the dirve for safty reasons, BTW microsoft pulled the 64-bit download from there site on friday sorry guys, looks like they are getting ready for the official release soon.

ps here is the link for the correct drivers

asus seems to have decent 64bit driver support for their SLi mobos, tho I have steered clear of XP 64 because people have posted performance and drops and extended driver performance issues. I am just going to wait until Longhorn matures, then build a new system with the latest tech.

You'd probably want to wait to download the 64 bit XP OS for Windows. Without the drivers to be updated for the OS, you'd be better waiting for several months until the drivers have been updated.

I have a hard drive in one of my systems that runs the 64 bit version of XP. I had no trouble finding drivers to get the thing up and running. Most of the apps I have tried to install have failed with the exception of a few.

I was bummed because the two most important apps I wanted to use were security/anti-virus stuff. Well, I did find that the 8.0I enterprise version of MCAfee will work on the 64 bit platform. I have yet to find a firewall that will work.

As far as games go I have been able to run HL2, Doom3, RTCW, and Unreal Tournament 2004 with little to no problem.
