since i got a lot of old hardware at home as many others, ive decided to put it all together so i can get some use of my old IDE harddrives.
i have some simple plans to put this together but i aint gonna use a lot of money, ive sold my soul to my mother (moving horse**** from barn to field :/) just to get this:
http://coolerkit.dk/Graphics/Products/803.jpg
im gonna use this because its gonna be very compact and not giving off a lot of heat since its old hardware.
specs:
something something MB
amd athlon 2.4 ghz
512 mb ram
geforce 4 TI 4200
hdd:
200 gb
160 gb
80 gb
xxx gb
to give you an impresion of how much im actually gonna stuff in this ive made this:
http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/7329/scrapheapxn5.jpg
all i actually need is some tubes, a rad (since om not gonna use my extra dual 120 rad), and some fluid.
im thinking of a few ideas on how to wrap it together but still working on it, basicly, im going to put PSU in one "box" in the bottom, and res/pump and dvd-rom in another, and put the MB etc on top. still not sure how to integrate the hdd´s and rad:/... but ill figur it out:P
http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/8949/scrapheapchallengewe5.jpg
comments and suggestions are very velcome:) im counting on ordering the res/pump today, and ill think about getting a cheap rad. (if anyone from denmark inhere has a cheap rad they dont use please pm me:D)
another pic just to show some more detailed sketches
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/3783/scrapheapchallenge2xi1.jpg
comments anyone?
looks good dude, heres hoping you do a AMASING build
still working on sketches, playing a bit with trying to to the bottom in acryl :D red if i can get my hands on it... maybe frosted
The boy 4rm oz
10-11-2007, 01:04 PM
If u can't get frosted red you can do it yourself with a bit of wet sand sandpaper, a lot cheaper to do than using pre-frosted acrylic. I like your design by the way, hope it turns out for ya.
thx all:)
what do you think of this?, ive put the rad in one of the bottoms, (120 mm) and layid harddrives on top of each other, i may have to go for 3 harddrives only, since i can get more space between and will only have to leed 1 power cable downthere (since most psu goes with 3 molex pr. cable
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/8341/scrapheapchallenge3hj5.jpg
(the image looks like sh## if you dont watch it in full res:p)
EDIT:
ive put a dual 120 mm rad in for comparison... as you can see its friggin big :S thats why ill have to get a single 120:/.. only have dual 120 lying around
http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/407/scrapheapchallenge4lj9.jpg

Nice design, I like it. The loop looks good ans so does the way you have set out your components.
yea... but what about 3 or 4 drives?... i could fit 4 inthere, but think that 3 will be better?
The boy 4rm oz
10-12-2007, 06:41 AM
I would probably say 3 cos you will have better airflow between them meaning cooler temps. If you want to go 4 and only have 3 molex plugs on the daisy chain just use a molex splitter to get your 4th plug.

yeah could do that... but as you say ill probertly only go with 3... since thats also what i have at my disposal atm, and the projekt is a scrapheap:p... so ill just dump all the old things i have in itxD
The boy 4rm oz
10-12-2007, 06:48 AM
Yeah, if it's a scarphead you don't really wanna go off buying new things and spendn cash you could put into your other mods lol.
no:P... or... well.. ill probertly use about 50$ on materials... and still need the rad:/ as you can see i cant use my dual 120:/
The boy 4rm oz
10-12-2007, 07:13 AM
Why can't you use the duel 120mm?
Why can't you use the duel 120mm?
its far to big, and would have to be placed in the rear or something:/
as shown before look at the size compared to the rest

The boy 4rm oz
10-12-2007, 11:03 AM
I think it looks good like that but it's your mod, maybe you could get a duel 80mm rad and mount it where the duel 120mm is.
well.. it would fit if it was a bit sideways inside the thing... but i think ill move the single 120 to the rear instead... would be better i think
Blebbz
10-12-2007, 01:53 PM
I think that rad on the side actually looks pretty good. you could probably hide it too if you don't like it that much. If you put the rad on the back you might have issues with accessing the power supply connectors and ports. Your design looks sweet though:up:
hmm... maybe your right... ill try playing with the idea:).. thx
one of my other concerns is that the pump is gonna get choked? its a little pump running @ 200 L/h... so dont know if it will be able to handle the dual 120? anyone who can help? :D
regarding 3 or 4 drives, why not make sre there is space for 4 drives, ut fit 3 for now, that way you coul dadd one later if needed

I can't comment on whether or not your pump can handle the rad, but either way you NEED some way to dissipate the heat, or the temps are just going to continuously climb.
Nice design though. I am really liking it. It looks good with the rad too.
Blebbz
10-14-2007, 04:14 PM
your oump should be able to handle the rad, but if it's acking that little bit of power you might not get all the fluid to circulate around it. But you've also got more time for heat to dissapate from it.
ok:p.. ive decided to go along with the dual 120 and see how it goes:)... otherwise ill just have to put another pump in there...
ill come up with some sketches later on:)... hopefully ill get som aluminium to work on soon so i will be able to work some frames:P until then, keep the good comments going:D... gonna need em to pull this off:)
any ideas of what to do with the top:D???
okay a small update.
got som alu to work on (alot actually so have plenty to the whole case i think) and also worked a prototype bend out to see if its possible to bend this with the machine im working with.
and gues what:D... it worked almost fine with som minor adjustments xD
test bend:
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/527/p1010117hh5.jpg
http://img178.imageshack.us/img178/7495/p1010118qr6.jpg
ive bended it so there is room in the midle for this if i get mad and decide to get a bigger pump and a bigger res:P
http://coolerkit.dk/Graphics/Products/334.jpg
since its a test bend, its not the right lenght, and the piece of alu thats in the left end is just scrap... its not gonna be there in the final model.
muharhar:D!!!
just as i have fizzled a bit with bending the alu in school, on the way home me and my girlfriend takes a look into the local aldi store, and gues what :D... the acryllic case which normally costs 1599 DKR (266 us$) is now on sale for 200 DKR XDDDDD... (33 us$)
ive allready bought one, and im gonna buy one more, and make this case of acryllic, and maybe paint some of it and so on:D
im not really god at holding on to one plan and maybe this projekt is gonna change much more... who knows :p
happy modding:)

Those reservoirs are awesome. Same one rendermandan used in his turbine mod except he used silver instead of black.
yeah... i like it alot also:D... but we will have to se know.. maybe ill buy another acryl case today, or just bend the alu so i can fit som acryl inthere:/... or maybe build the whole thing in acryl :S... i dont know:?:?:?
The boy 4rm oz
10-24-2007, 04:19 AM
If you can bend aluminium you can bend acrylic, make the shelf out of acrylic :)
yeah but know im thinking of makin the bottom part of alu as planned and, so something something of acrylic on the top... not completely transparrent, but maybe with some painting and grills:)
Jetty_200
10-24-2007, 02:08 PM
errrr what?
I think the aluminum would work best for the frame, put in the acrylic where you would like, i think top would be sweet and some side windows. the cylindrical rad. is effing sweet too dude!! i think that would look great in the middle section.
errrr what?
I think the aluminum would work best for the frame, put in the acrylic where you would like, i think top would be sweet and some side windows. the cylindrical rad. is effing sweet too dude!! i think that would look great in the middle section.
yeah i like the res alot to:p... so hope i have the cash to get it... and im gonna go for the aliminium for a bottom frame, and then make a top of alu to, and some windows of acrylic, and mesh... got to get some drawings down heh
BUT... ****ty bang bang, my camera is fracked so untill i find a card reader somewhere (got one lying around "somewhere") you will have to do with pure text:think: [boooring]
ive split the acrylic case apart so i have the bottom and the top plate which im gonna make my hdd holder, and my dvd drive holder. gonna cut something of theese to make them fit, and make a tray to em so they are gonna stay where i want them to stay.
ive decided to reverse the design so psu, dvd-drive and res/pump is going to be on the side the harddrives were before, beacuse of the psu otherwise would suck air from -nowere-...
just testet the different parts of acrylic, and they are fitting nicely:D... only have to do some simple cuts to pull this off, and then some filling maybe.
i have a god feeling of this so is very excitet to get the alu bend so i can work on the rest... just fearing that the bends is gonna get of, and it wont fit in the end:/.. just have to be carefull then heh...
:pics: just before someone else do it
ill post the image sometime tomorrow or something:)
until then= g´night:D
okay this is what i have to work with:D... acrylic FTW
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/6205/im004751vd2.jpg
gonna take this part and destroy it so it fits my needs xD!
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/8884/im004754sh6.jpg
this should give you an idea of what i want to do:)
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/6302/im004756tn4.jpg
and the psu is gonna sit like this
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/2899/im004757sl9.jpg
light!... yeeaaahhh
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/2218/im004759zd7.jpg
this wont do:/... the psu cant get any fresh air...
http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/6863/im004769hw6.jpg
quick fix heh

this is the tool of destruction!:D... WITH LASERS XD... gotta love it!

Yay progress. Reminds me that I have to do some serious plastic work done tomorrow morning for my mod. Going out in the arvo :( I don't want to go :(.
back:D
the PSU mounting plate destroyd and fittet a bit
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/5249/im004790ay6.jpg
psu mounted, and shined up, sooo shiny!:D
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/6615/im004791qc9.jpg
bended the bottom frame, compared to prototype:
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/8602/im004797ha6.jpg
and made the other one as well, like the results:D.. they are almost identical!... 1 mm different max xD all made without motorized tools:P
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/3826/im004799vo8.jpg
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9459/im004800jo2.jpg
look at thoose bends:P... compared to the prototype i like it:D
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/341/im004803pu1.jpg
thats all for now... havent got photos of the rest, and since my camera is broken im gonna have to buy a card reader:)
comments are welcome:)

Looks great, it is really coming together. I need to get a job so I can follow my own endeavors lol. I always wanted to make a full plexi/UV case.
i hate the idea of a fully plexi case:P... but as mentioned i just bought 2 for about 33$ a piece:D
think there is way to many visible things in a fully transparent case:S

Yea I'll second that. I had to do a double take on the threads title after seeing what you've done so far. Pretty cool stuff!
THX alot! very happy to hear that:P.. i hope not to disapoint you:) ill be off to the workshop to cut the rest of the hdd-dvd holders:D... im dying to tear the masking tape of to see how it looks heh...
when im done with the holders, ill be cutting in the mobo mounting plate, have to make an vent so the psu will be able to get air:)
you will have to wait for pics until tomorrow, since my camera still is going mental:/
wuhuuu!... found a camera at the girl next door:P
update time!
how it looks at the time
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/473/img0919ba5.jpg
psu got another mount plate in the upper right corner
http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/1585/img0920gf1.jpg
have to figure a way to lead the wires from the psu to hdd... thought of thoose silver bath hoses everyone uses since the looks awesome, but think they have been used to much so ill see if i can find something else
http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/5480/img0923td0.jpg
the pencil is there to illustrate how long it is going to be in the end
http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/796/img0926xd0.jpg
a little look at the rear... have to fix the whole in the psu somehow... thinking about mesh, but that might ruin the acrylic look?
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/386/img0929gh8.jpg
intake to psu.. will look something like this i think
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/7436/img0931sx3.jpg
old faithfull gforce 4 TI 4200 :p (and old not so faithfull camera in the back)
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/1757/img0934zb6.jpg
how the rear looks... have to do something about the edges and so on... not quite satisfied with the vent as it looks now neither.
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/7009/img0935rh5.jpg
pleeeenty of room inhere for something:D
http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/552/img0936ec3.jpg
raddy time! after some time of thinking and loads of more thinking of what to do with the spare room beside the mobo, and how to make the top, i thought of putting the rad in the front?... will have to make some fancy cover for it though... but shouldnt be a problem:D
(there should have been pics of the raddy on the front here but somehow i forgot to link to em lol)
after seing how it fittet i came up with the idea that a 3*120 mm rad actually might fit:twisted::twisted::twisted:
also the posibility to put it out of the way here but this pos wont fit a 3*120mm
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/7506/img0947gq7.jpg
and for the frame: i have plans to make it look like brushed steel:D i love that look!... just hope to be able to make it look god:)
thats all for now:D
comments are very velcome:)... need feedback on the raddy and the mesh and whatever you might have to say:D
and thx to XcOM for the sig pic:) how do i make it link to this thread? heh
The boy 4rm oz
10-29-2007, 01:27 AM
Lots of work, looks good so far. I don't think the mesh will destroy the acrylic look, you just have to be tasteful with where you use it, don't go overboard.
think ill be able to cut wholes for the harddrive excoust fan, and i might be able to figure out how to mount the mobo plate:D
were sitting in the class... thinking... think im gonna make a custom waterblock...
FOR MY PSU:D
that would save me the truble making a vent to the fan... gotta take a look at this when i get home!
The boy 4rm oz
10-29-2007, 08:57 AM
Hmmm, that is an interesting idea. I have seen PSUs with waterblocks already attached but never a DIY block. Sounds interesting, but if you get it wrong you will fry your PSU. Probably not really worth the risk, just make a nice hole for direct airflow, will be more than sufficient for a PSU. Nice idea though, I look forward to seeing what you come up with :).
dosnt really matter if it go or not:D... i have another one just like it heh... and a couple of others...
shouldnt it be enough to put some waterblocks on the heatsinks of the psu?
The boy 4rm oz
10-29-2007, 09:35 AM
Personally I don't really see the point. A fan works well enough and the heat that a PSU puts out will only increase your CPU/GPU temps by a lot. I think my PSU's (Antec NEO HE 550W) idle temp is 50 degrees celcius, add another 40 for your CPU, that's 90 degrees of heat you have to get rid of. I don't think that your Thermaltake 240mm radiator will cope due to its small tubing diameter.
You should still draw up a design though and then make up your own mind.
types in a worklog, host the pics, make the links, and the beacuse of some crappy ass nighbour mouse i push on a toolbar and its all gone!... "#!"!"¤
trying again
think im just gonna go for the standard psu then... my current Tt dual 120 rad though is able to handle all of my things in the other rig... thats a big cpu and 4 harddrives.
progress though.
got the rest of the holders in place, drilled the wholes and so on.
http://img229.imageshack.us/img229/3391/img0961pj1.jpg
the machine i use for bending
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/6707/img0951it6.jpg
and the machine for cutting:D.. why bother with a saw when you can use a huge ass machine:D
http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/7577/img0952df2.jpg
AND I GOT THIS!!!
http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/5572/img0959jf7.jpg
have no idea of what to do of it though... now it some sort of power measuring thing but who gives a damn:D
this was were i thought of placing the rad... might do some renders when i get home... to give you a better idea of it:D
http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/926/img0944pl6.jpg
thats all for now:D...
stay tuned for the next episode of:O scrapheap challenge! lol
looks good mate, i wouldn't cool the PSU though with water, you might have spare PSU, but what if the failure of the PSU takes down the rest of your hardware?
Plus to link to your worklog code is:

That is a multimeter. -You can use it for measuring voltage, resistance, check diodes etc.
yeah now you says it i remember:P... think we fryid one of thoose in school xD
little progress... which result in the descition of redoing the hdd panel...
you see this wont do
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/2192/img0962rg0.jpg
and it should have been as wide as the other one... so will have to redo this when i get home
http://img518.imageshack.us/img518/9276/img0964oa0.jpg
small update.
got the other hdd holder done, and used a lot of time sanding, wetsanding, more wetsanding and polishing:D
made theese little things
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/9701/img0974zh8.jpg
wich is gonna be used for this
http://img216.imageshack.us/img216/6499/img0978ja8.jpg
and i got the mobo plate drilled, so now i just need to find som bolts that fits the purpose:D
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/4390/img0980se7.jpg
ive only sanded to P800, and i can get a 1200, but what is the highest you can get?... as far as i heard 2000 and does it make sence to get higher or does polishing the rest of the job:D?
EDIT:
might just got a sponsor:D more info to come!:D
The boy 4rm oz
11-05-2007, 04:08 AM
Plastic bits look cool, great work. When sanding plexi I start at 800 and go straight to 1200, don't need to buff after that, perfect edges for me. I prefer a rough look so I only use 800 to diffuse the light better.
got sponsorship:D
i should have this soon (ill post the sponsor soon) :
3 of theese
17 db, adjustable to 6 db!!! 6 db!!:D

and this lovely baby! pump & res in 5.25 bay

Congrats on the sponsorship mate. I tried to find one for my current mod but no one was interested. I will send them all pics when I am done though so they know what they missed out on lol. That res/pump combo looks way better than your other one. Those fans are cool to (pardon the pun lol), Noctua?
thx alot! and yeah its noctua:D sweet fans!... im going for the "soundless" system, and 17 db is just allrigt:D with some paint, and covers they are going to look nice:D (not visible at all lol)
The boy 4rm oz
11-05-2007, 09:21 AM
No problem mate. Silent is good, but if it doesn't push the right amount of air it aint worth it.
thats sort of why i picked a triple 120 mm radiator, on the one hand, its able to cool ALOT of water, and even if i tweak the fans so they "only" does 50 cubikmeters/hour it would still cool the hell out of the components:D and with that pump that is able to lift the water 5.8 meters it should flow with very low losses:D
The boy 4rm oz
11-05-2007, 09:31 AM
You've done your resurch lol. All sounds good.
research yeah:P... dont wanna end up with a lot of stuff i cant use in the end:D like one time i got the wrong hoses:p... best noob style! xD just looked at them on the fittings and was like "wtf"
ive worked on the radgrill thingie
what do you think? as far as ive calculated the mobo is able to sit backthere:D
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/9659/radgrill1fe2.jpg
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/14/radgrill2kh5.jpg

It's kinda like a test bench.
i think this is kinda the bend angle i want
http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/6941/img0993pc5.jpg
its gonna be cut a little above where the lower 2 pieces of maskin tape is, and ill figure out a way to mount it to the rest of the body on... i thought of welding but this would be to visible, i might bolt it on or something...
more shots:
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/6267/img0994yu8.jpg
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/729/img0995eo5.jpg
guess thats it for now... sry for the loads of small updates, but i cant really do to much until i get the rad to measure on, and also have to figure a way to get the top pieces together... if i take the other acrylic case i have and use this, i have no problems what so ever, but im thinking of selling this on:D dont know... it might have to suffer a terrible accident or so... would save me loads of truble:twisted:
you can weld, just weld it from both sides, and grind down the outside so its smooth again, once its puttyed a little, primed and painted it should be ok
another 35$ just went into this "scrapheap" mod since ive decided to split my second acrylic case xD... (gonna sell the hardware though, 400W psu, 3 alu fans & cold cathode light)
this is the purpose:
this:
http://img476.imageshack.us/img476/738/img0999fm1.jpg
is replaced by this:
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/427/img1001vp0.jpg
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/6545/img1004dk9.jpg
side view... think im gonna go for a angled top... not totaly flat as you see here... this might ruin my plans with the rad grill, but i have a solution in mind

Work looks fantastic mate, case looks awesome. Sucks about your HDD man, your lucky nothing else was damaged.
yeah.... i think im gonna have to get 2 of theese now:D... if i can pull this off ill implement my hardware from my primary rig and make my case now a server or something...
http://www.koolance.com/water-cooling/product_info.php?cPath=29_45&products_id=231
hmm... i need something to cool 4 harddrives with.. watercooled.. any ideas?...
also, might have got myself a vertical drill if im lucky:D so i wont have to go to the school everytime i need one of thoose xD...
things i got done: mesh for raddy, psu air intake 1&2 (ill explain when i get hold on a camera:D)
i would very much like some advices about the harddrive cooling! got my eyes on the hydra pack as i showed above but results shows that they dont cool that crazy... and they are very expensive:/

maybe get some of those freezer packs with the blue ice in em and run a hose through them to keep them cool? that would be pretty sweet. don't know how you would make that work without getting blue gel all over your harddrives.

hehe thx.... gonna need it i think xD
small update:)
mesh drilled and cut:
as air intake to the psu im counting on using a 140 mm fan.
gonna cut something of the sides of it so it could suck air in from the side where there is a little mesh . this is going to suck some air that comes out of it, but this should not have the biggest effect since there also is a intake on the top.
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/6484/img0065be0.jpg

http://img211.imageshack.us/img211/855/img0060tk4.jpg
mesh for the radiator... should i paint this black too?... dont know exactly how the fangrill for the radiator is gonna look... there is gonna sit another one on the alu top plate.
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9610/img0058xs4.jpg
also have to make some adjustments to this card reader... gonna mill in a pice of acrylic, so it fits exactly on.

Great work mate, I like the mesh you are using, has bigger holes compared the the AC Ryan MeshX.
yeah... i was about to order some of that, but since i really dont have the money i just "borrowed" something that i found @ school:D
the finished milling result... will have to do some more about this... but you get the idea...
(sorry for blurry pics...)
http://img57.imageshack.us/img57/4835/img0076at9.jpg
and the other side... i might do something about the milling traces, sand it or something... might paint it on one side... still thinking.. any suggestions?

just working on sanding it down... thats some sad work... hard as he## to get in the corners:(
The boy 4rm oz
12-17-2007, 10:49 AM
To get in the corners wrap a bit of sand paper around the non bladed end of a drill bit, this works great if you need to get into small gaps. All you have to do is twirl the bit with your fingers and the job is done before you know it.

Thanks for the rep, glad it was useful to someone. You can also use scissors, their bladed edge makes it an ideal tool to get into cracks.

Very cool work there pOPe!
For sanding in 90 degree edges like that, I have found that cutting a piece of wood to act as handle, something about 6" long with one end cut at an angle of ~30-40 degrees. Then glue square-cut pieces of sand paper to the angled edge and you have a great sanding tool. Just replace the sandpaper when it's work down.
Looking cool dude!

ok... im just typing down what i know i need to complete this since i think it has stopped a bit:/
to do list:
get modular PSU
design top plate & get this lazercut
make hdd holder - the one i have now only supports 3, and if theese are to be watercooled it will only support 2 or suchs... so im gonna buy this:http://coolbits.dk/product_info.php?products_id=86
and then im gonna go for 2 harddrives in the system... and my onther 2 is gonna go in another mod (prime) i think:)
and that is actually what i need to do:)... so i guess ill order the drive cooler today and see if i can get a loop test up n´ running:D

Nice looking block. I'm not to keen on the whole "liquid bag" thing, may be more trouble than it's worth. I have heard a lot of stories about them rupturing.
The boy 4rm oz
01-07-2008, 08:32 AM
All of them. From what I have heard anything Koolance that uses that "liquid bag" method of cooling rather than a copper block tends to burst, especially RAM blocks. I have heard of the HDD ones bursting but not as frequently as the others. Why don't you use the ones you used in your other mod?
they broke:P... i posted some piqs of it i think... and have to think of another way to cool the thing with:( suggestions are very welcome because i desperatly need something to cool thoose drives :S
The boy 4rm oz
01-07-2008, 08:45 AM
I thought only one of your old ones broke, hmm. I don't know of any good HDD coolers because I have never looked into it before. Use those Koolance ones if you want but I would strongly recommend leak testing them a lot longer than you usually would.
yeee... but actually the first of them broke a while back, and now the other one is broken to:/

just saw that i cant get them in DK i think:( ill work that out xD

thx alot all! im gonna redo the text part since it was only a prototype, and then ill mille it alle the way through... the prototype plate is too thick, so the new one is only going to be 1 or 2 mm, and this might be the top plate, BUT, there is gonna be alot of air restrictions if the text was the only think that allows air to come through so ill have to come with a desigh for that or just make the text on top.
think ill work on the design today and post pics later:D

You could cut a strip above and below the text and put mesh behind it to increase air flow.

POPE,
This is looking mean. Beautiful. Haven't had the chance to read logs for a while but you have had me glued to the computer stool enjoying what I was looking at and reading. Thanks for that mate + rep :)
For the HDD coolers I was going to mention someone entered a very cool space saving HDD cooler mod in The Great Satan's competition that you should check out .....
Until I looked up the thread ... DOH !! haha
Matthew

yeah... but i think ill just make something for the air intake, and put the text on top. i have enough air restrictions atm:D

I may have missed this but what does Meto mean?
BigJohnson
01-22-2008, 05:27 PM
Yeah. I was also curious what METO means.
well... METO is the short version of the name for my primary rig, METEORA, which actually isnt the first rig anymore. ive changed parts, cases and nearly everything but the computer is always named METEORA
when i started gaming supreme commander i needed a name to play, and my online nick p0Pe sounded bad since there was this title:
"welcome commander p0Pe"
so one thing lead to another and METEORA changed to METO, and thats what my new case is gonna be named:)
the bad joke story is that everytime people will see this case they are gonna yell:
-I want one man!
-YEAH MEETOO! =_=
:P

lol
got the piece thats gonna hold the top and bottom together in each site done... or... i got it measured up and made a drawing:D
this is how its gonna look
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap challenge mod/holder.JPG
this should be made thirsday and then ill have to get on with making a holder for my harddrives, since i think im gonna order 2 of the danger den hdd blocks wich should fit in one of the compartments:D
finally got the parts done!... my group mate came 2 hours late so suddenly we had alot to do:/.. but i managed to make a little of my own once in a while:)
the results (no wip sorry... but guess you know the drill:P):
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap challenge mod/DSC00219.jpg
and this is how they are to be placed:
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap challenge mod/DSC00194.jpg
the wholes i countersunk
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap challenge mod/DSC00197.jpg
so it would look like this:banana:
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap challenge mod/DSC00210.jpg
you can really see the milling traces xD... looks kinda cool actually so i think ill keep it this way
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap challenge mod/DSC00211.jpg
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap challenge mod/DSC00214.jpg
and the fun part! tapping:bunny: dont know why but i love this part :smoker:

http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap challenge mod/DSC00216.jpg
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap challenge mod/DSC00217.jpg
there is only one little problem, you would notice that on the first picture there is a gab between the bar and the plexi... this is why:
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap challenge mod/DSC00198.jpg
... have to countersink this mofo:).. but then everything should fit like a glove:D
and you may have noticed all the closeups:P... i "borrowed" my sisters cam and went mental... this was what came from that:

BUT! i just learned how to use the program i use now to create files to get lasercut:D... so actually i could just send the files i have now and get theese cut but ill have to talk to the sponsors and see if everything is as they wants:)
so very god news:D.. and got paid so i can order the final parts !!! this should actually be done quite soon i hope xD... i hope to get it done in one month or so

Mate very nice work. It is really taking shape now.
thx...
i just heard something today that really sucks big time!!!
the stuff i should have had lasercut was ready to be send to the man i knew, but he didnt have time yesterday since he had to drive somewhere...
today i just heard the FRIGGIN SAD NEWS! some moron on the place where they had the lasercutter forgot to do something something...
the point is that the whole machine startet reflecting the beam at itself, which obviously isnt god, and went on fire =_= so dont know when i can get theese cut:(

02-08-2008, 05:09 AM
Damn man that sucks big time.
well.. anyway here is some tease pics and a question
do you know if i can plug my laing pump directly to a fancontroller? beacuse i would like to be able to adjust the speed of it since it is really noisy:O its just 12 volt as a normal fan so i would guess its posible... do you know, or should i buy a expensive pump controller (would prefer not xD)

Pics look great. To be honest I have no idea regarding your question, I know you can run them off a 3-pin mobo header so why not a fan controller, same principal.
that was my thought as well... FrooP told me that i might use the yellow wire from the 3pin and this was for the pumpspeed?
The boy 4rm oz
02-18-2008, 04:21 AM
I dunno, my guess it to try it out first, or get someone you know to try it. You shouldn't cause any damage by trying it.
yeah... ill get a hold on one of my old fan controllers and test it out:) or... i could try using one of the resistors for my noctua fans :O the slow the mofo down to 5 volt i think xD... then ill see if it goes mental :)
|NQ|Squelsh
03-03-2008, 07:52 PM
Hey p0Pe! Great progess going on here! +Rep. That laser cutting thing suxx.
I am not sure, but I think I read about special controllers that are needed to slow down Laing-pumps. But I am pretty sure that you cant destroy the pump nor the controller. So simply give it a try and post your results...
The point is: The pump is not just a motor like the motors in the fans... As it is brushless, it produces its alternating electro magnetic field with some electronics. And the field only gets weaker but not slower when lowering the voltage... (IMHO)
thx alot squelsh! :) for the advice also... just think ill go to get a pump controller... really cant stand the noise xD
and it did not work by just putting a fan resistor on:(
ill update again when/if i get the lazer cut thingies:P... hopefully soon! and just need the final parts for my watercooling and then its ready to asambly:D
|NQ|Squelsh
03-04-2008, 05:58 AM
Hmmm... Which Laing do you use? I have the cheapest model (because it is the most quiet one) and I have tried to installed it vibration free... It's not perfect and I think I will try to improve it, but when I experimented with the pump outside the case I could not hear ANYTHING when I took the pump in my hand or placed it on some foam.
So: Is it the pump you hear ot only its vibrations?
well it could be the vibes:/... ill have a look into it.
but couldnt resist updating now:D!!!

For cable management I use these.
Linky:
http://www.aetherwide.com/articles/obsdfw/fw20-s.jpg
They have an adhesive strip attached on the back and you just stick it to what you want to and thread a cable tie through it and there you go. You can get different sized one for different cable ties so you can hold bigger bundles of cable.
The mod looks great though, fantastic work.
P.S - What skin are you using for windows???
I also use these.

Just like the other mounts you can get these in a wide variety of sizes.
thx:) i got the cable manegement stuff and will be arranging it when i get my last parts.. have to take the system apart when i get my waterblock for the gpu :D then ill exclude the build in res and see if that correct the noise probs:/

Hey pope! It's been a while since I looked at your thread. That case lookes awesome by now! Really nice design. The red coolant is hot!
I just rechecked that I have translated "scapheap" correct into German, because the case does not look like one at all
haha thx:P... well... i am kinda suprised on how it is ending up too:D... it was starting as a scrapheap xD...
i am hoping to get a new cpu next week!!!
amd athlon X4 phenom 9850 :D gonna sell some old stuff i have lying arround and use the money on buying that sucker! cant wait to see how it performs with my system...
And then it was time! ive been waiting all day to make this update dou to the server being down! but here we go!!!!!!
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01050.jpg
The final parts has arrived! Better late than never xD
We will start of with something basic to avoid this:
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01092.jpg
The first filter I made was… erm… not that god. Glue was to visible but it was ugly.
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01067.jpg
And it didn’t fit all that god
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01068.jpg
So… back to the top!!!
This is the “evolution” for the tops.
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01066.jpg
The top 2 is the final I got. The right one had little lines in it to make it easier to bend, and it worked like a charm, so after that I went on to sanding
A long process… first grid 280, 800, 1200 and then final 2000
And came out with this
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01056.jpg
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01084.jpg
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01095.jpg
The filter for the top came out nicely!
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01055.jpg
And a little peek at the back! God no one will see this side:P beside.. erm.. all of you lol
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01063.jpg
The engraving
I made a comparison with the engraving before and after sanding, check it out!
Before
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01065.jpg
And after
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01064.jpg
And the whole mombo fitted on!
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01107.jpg
Still needs 3 small things. Drill the wholes for these
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01096.jpg
And make this fan for the hdd rack fit better and get that into place
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01093.jpg
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01106.jpg
And make a proper on, off switch.. the one you see in the pics above wont do!
But that was that:D finally! After way to long time I declear the scrapheap challenge ALMOST complete. And damn it has taken its time…
But here comes the eye candy! Enjoy

http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01091.jpg
Missed a little with the sanding
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01094.jpg
And the back
http://tosed.dk/billeder/scrapheap%20challenge%20mod/DSC01102.jpg

That's a great build considering it started out as a scrap parts build:D
I'm a noob here and it's been good reading through the whole build and just catching the end, it's always surprising how much a build can change as it progresses and becomes more involved.
A lot of the "fun!" is working out ways to over come problems and make things work when and where there no supposed to, let's face it, it would be a bit boring if every build went perfectly as planned (though one would be nice!)
If my build turns out as good I will be well happy:banana:
I can't leave you +rep yet but, I would if I could ;>)

thx very much:D i like the way it turned out to:P dont know if i should put a alu shield infront of the right compartment though... the one were there curently is a acrylic, the compartment with the dvd-drive in.
what do you think?
The boy 4rm oz

I think it looks good with just the acrylic there. It a a feature of interest of the case.
