I purchased The Orange Box today and completed Portal. The game is truly amazing and has brought a new dimension to gaming that I have never seen done with this effect. The game forces me to rethink how to solve puzzles and how I think of 3d environments in games. I'm telling everyone who was waiting for reviews of this game before they bought it, to go get it. It will be worth the money.

Anyone else finish it yet?

I'm surprised nobody does. I've been waiting for Portal ever since I saw that first trailer.

i only heard about portal through the orange box and it looks like a neat game. i would buy the orange box but i just (before it came out) got HL2 episode 1 so i'm not spending 50 on portal, TFC2 and HL episode 2.

I really want the Orange Box, but like what Spawn said, I already have HL2. And I have to finish buying my WC loop. But it's pretty high on my list. I've been looking forward to TF2, Portal, and the HL2 Episodes for so long I can't stand it.

I haven't played Portal yet. I will do that after I play EP2. I went through steam and bought their Source Premiere package. $79.99 and includes CS:S and DOD:S, HL2:DM, and some other stuff, on top of what orange box is.

Ive never played counter strike and everyone seems to love it sooo figured it was a good deal.

Plus I can just make a new steam account, put that on it. And give my old account with HL2, HL2-ep1, and hl2-dm to my girlfriend because she loves to sit there and play deathmatch, and now we can play together once i get project Alb off the ground.

I will say that Team Fortress 2 is one fun ass game. Its a little frustrating, atleast for me, to find a class that suits me. But so far in order of my favorites is... pyro, scout, sniper. Such a cool game.

I havent looked into the specs at all, but does anyone happen to know the system requirements for the orange box?

The only PC I have right atm is my laptop, so I'd like to know if the go7400 will handle it before I cough up the cash.

Its on the side, under system requirements. ^_^

Ya the 7400go will handle it. You wont be able to max out graphics but you can handle it. My old laptop has that gpu and i played Oblivion on that for ages. You won't be able to handle any new HDR in ep2 or anything but it will be very playable.

I just finished Ep 2. It was amazing. Valve is the best. If you are a fan, go get this game.

I'd look into it if I liked Steam. I have Dark Messiah of Might and Magic and it worked a grand total of one time. I can't get it to work at all and it's a pain as it's a fun game. It acts as if it's loading up, maximizes the game, screen goes black, and then it comes back to the desktop. That or in place of the videos at the start of the game is white boxes... just aggravating. No more Steam or EA stuff for me, thanks, I have problems enough as it is.

I remember this starting out as a mod someone made, can anyone confirm that? I remember seeing that portal gun and a few DEV trailers for the mod going to be used in GMOD.

If you read the wikipedia entry, it said that it was thought up and somewhat-executed by a company called digipen in 2005.

Oh, and look what i found... (serious spoiler alert.) http://itsthedoc.net/music/portal_still_alive.mp3
If you are using firefox it should just start up.

Anyway, I found this game to amazing. I loved it. Short, but if it was any longer it would probably become tedious, and I like actually being able to finish a game.

I would give it 9.5/10. It's not the best game ever, but if it doesn't get most original at some game contest, then the judges are on crack. This game kicks so much cojones.

Along with the rest of the orange box. Probably one of the best 45 dollars I have ever spent in my 15 years. I would probably pay that just for TF2 and Portal. I've barely got any time in the half life 2 1+2 games at all and just been playing spy on TF2. Better than halo.

IF you are debating the orange box, and you like FPS's at all, and you like interesting and very fun game experiences, and you like value, and you are alive, and you are not an alien, then get it. Now. I have an ATi x800pro, and it handles them all very well on medium.

Well, I went through. Beat Episode 2 in 4.5hours. It felt sooo much better than episode 1. Then again I didn't realize episode 1 was going to be so short, and I expected 2 to be short...so maybe i wasn't as let down as I was in ep1. Awesome nonetheless. Now I have to wait forever for episode 3.

Portal....ohhh portal. I played that and beat it last night. It was short, but it was perfect. I don't want to give away any spoilers so I will leave it at that. Just awesome. The song at the end is priceless as well. The only thing I can think of is that everyone keeps saying this portal idea was revolutionary. The way you could use the gun and make the portals was awesome I will say that. But the portal concept just felt a little like Prey. But nonetheless, withing 20minutes of playing I was not thinking about that at all. Portal, Portal, Portal. Awesome game. Hopefully people will make more levels or something, that would be nice.

Kind of.

A Couple of students made an indie game called narbacular drop, which was all about controling portals and stuff.
Vavle liked it and hired the students who made it to make portal.

Yeah, that's about how it is. Portal is almost perfect in every way. The other games are very good, but just more of the same. I'm off to school.

You do realize that's a problem with the game, not Steam, right? Dark Messiah has had bugs and problems since before it was launched, standalone version AND Steam download.

Portal is awesome, I <3 my Weighted Companion Cube.

It is really quick and easy to play as long as you aren't drunk. Seriously though it has a very interesting gameplay and allows for a great interaction with the environment.

The requirements say 1.7ghz, would this run on my 1.5ghz dual core? (I played it on a friend's computer)

Oh and by the way:
If you read the wikipedia entry, it said that it was thought up and somewhat-executed by a company called digipen in 2005.
Digipen is a college for video game design, the people behind the game graduated from there.

It all really depends on the CPU. I've got warnings from Steam on a few games because my E6600 was only 2.4GHz, but it obviously can chew up any game out there. You may as well try it...

I think I will try that. Another question, if I open a Steam account, then build a new computer. Will it allow me to use/transfer the games I purchased for my current machine to the future one.

How do you download it if you don't have quicktime pro?Right click on the link and select "Save Link As..." (Might be "save target" as with different browsers)

I got it from the portal myspace page along with the version of the song that played on the little radios in the game.

Yes. You just install Steam on the new computer, and enter your Username/Password, let the games redownload, and you're done!
