I just joined the forums since im working on a case mod currently, but at the moment that isnt posted (will follow shortly). In the meantime i have a Questionnaire, i can hear your screams of excitement now... But seriously im working ona very cool project for my collage course (again, will follow shortly) that you would all like and this SHORT Questionnaire will help no end with it.

If any kind souls out there would like to help just copy and past this template and replace the awnsers to the quistions with... well... you know... your answers and then post it as a reply.

Please state Yes/ No with a short reason

Thanks in advance guys, i will post some sketches of the product as soon as they are ready (and i can find a scanner).

Whats the point of this thread?

Btw, check out Google Sketchup. Its a very easy to use 3D modeling program. Its what most of us modders use to draw up our ideas. No scanners required either. ^_^

..........
Have you ever built a computer?
Yes (Have yet to mod one completely though)
Are you aware of the current cooling products on the market?
Yes
Have you ever had any problems with a computers cooling?
Yes, until I bought adequate cooling products to replace stock cooling products and/or inefficient cooling products.
How many fans do you have in your current computer and what sizes are they?
Three. Two 120mm (front and back) and one 80mm (side panel, directly over cpu area). I also have a Thermaltake Blue Orb II, which has a built-in fan.
Have you ever overclocked a component?
No
Would you benefit from being able to direct airflow from your fans?
Inconclusive evidence. I've tried many different arrangements of case fans, thus resulting in many different airflow patterns, but I have not been able to tell whether one arrangement is better than another. But as a rule of thumb, positive airflow (intake and exhaust) is fairly guaranteed to work the best.

An example of a simple intake and exhaust system is one fan in the front as an intake and one fan in the back as an exhaust.

Now, if you meant that could we benefit from being able to adjust our fans in different directions, such as if it was on a pivot or whatnot, I would have to say that I wouldn't know. Maybe, maybe not. I've never had a setup that would allow me to do that before. Best way to find out is to just figure out how to do it and then do it.

Hope that helps!

12. Seven 120mm fans (inc. PSU), Three 92mm fans, Two 60mm? blower motherboard fans
Have you ever overclocked a component?
Yes
Would you benefit from being able to direct airflow from your fans?
Yes, i suppose, especially with a case where cooling isn't that well designed.

in my laptop? I think it cools pretty well.

thanks so far guys, and zephik im not really into 3d drawing. When i make the final product i will be making 2d and 3d drawings for use with the collages laser cutter and rapid prototyping machine. But as far as 3d drawing for sketching up ideas, its not really my thing, and i need to show some hand drawing skills for my coursework folder.

Keep a track on my sig and i will make a thread for my case mod.

Have you ever built a computer?
Yes, this is my first and i'm on it now, specs in sig.
Are you aware of the current cooling products on the market?
Yes, water, air, tec/pelt and phase :)
Have you ever had any problems with a computers cooling?
No, but i will add extra cooling even though its not really needed. EG, my lapped proc and heat sinked inductors seen here (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8946&page=2)
How many fans do you have in your current computer and what sizes are they?
9 total: 1x250mm side fan, 1x120mm front fan, 2x92mm cpu fans (one on video card heatsink) 1x135mm psu fan, 1x80mm psu fan, 1x60mm voltage regulator fan, 1x40mm northbridge fan and one 80mm rear fan.
Have you ever overclocked a component?
Yes, with my current rig, its my first real attempt. video card and cpu.
Would you benefit from being able to direct airflow from your fans?
if it worked good then yes i think so. it might help with mounting.

EDIT: i just added a rear 80 mm fan to help vent the cpu heat out better.

Have you ever built a computer?
Yes, if you accept more then one build on that question...
Are you aware of the current cooling products on the market?
Yes
Have you ever had any problems with a computers cooling?
I should say yes, but I dont want to spend the night on this, so no...
How many fans do you have in your current computer and what sizes are they?
On witch computer? Some have a couple of 120mm, some have a couple of 80mm, I also have some 92mm lying somewhere in another one. And one fan free
Have you ever overclocked a component?
Yes
Would you benefit from being able to direct airflow from your fans?
Depend on the use of the rig...

Have you ever built a computer?
Yes
Are you aware of the current cooling products on the market?
Yes
Have you ever had any problems with a computers cooling?
Yes, Poor products and failed products. Lots of products on the market which describe the highest performance, not performance at peak temperatures. They often fail to include safe working conditions and clearances required for the products to work as efficient as they say they will.
How many fans do you have in your current computer and what sizes are they?
80mm - 4, 92mm - none in this machine, 120mm - 1 In this case. 240mm - none in this case.
Have you ever overclocked a component?
Yes
Would you benefit from being able to direct airflow from your fans?
Yes, but without heavily increasing the room for installation. Being able to install a fan in a tight space and direct its airflow from past the obstruction is a good thing. I'd rather build my own air flow control to fit specific uses than have bigger and bulkier fans with it built in.

Have you ever built a computer?
I lost track after around 100.
Are you aware of the current cooling products on the market?
Enough to know what I'm looking for.
Have you ever had any problems with a computers cooling?
My first watercooling attempt was a pain, but outside of that, it's been cake.
How many fans do you have in your current computer and what sizes are they?
2x120 - Radiator
2x120 - Hard drive cages
1x80 - Exhaust
Have you ever overclocked a component?
Yes.
Would you benefit from being able to direct airflow from your fans?
If you have a large enough fan, yes. Small fans, not really. If you ever run a smoke test inside most modern cases that use 120mm fans, deadspots aren't as apparent as the old beige cases, so directing the flow isn't needed as much.
