I've looked around for an Asus Vento 3600 case modded on the internet, apparently this is one case no-one wants to touch, and since I like it quite a bit, I say hey, how about I mod mine and see what people think about it. So I found this website now, and i'm going to continue posting pictures until it's completed with neons, here are some pics of it's state right now.

What i'd like to do is put a window panel on the side because of course it didn't come with one, so i'm going to attempt to put that in, and then i'm going to put in neon fans, and lights.

Now for the Side Panel and the Mechanism

That is the side panel, Where the red marking is, is where i'd like to the Window to go, and i'm not sure what to cut it with, and what to use for the window material? Suggestions if you would please?

I'm truly not exactly sure, how to fix the wires because this case is somewhat small, anyway what do you think I should use as my window material.

For the side-panel you can use a dremel to cut it out. Use pretty much any variant of the cutting disks, and it will come out well. You could also use one of those metal nibbler things. It would take time but it would do the same thing just take out a bit more of the material.

As for what to use for the window, most people use plexiglass, or any variant of that. Lucite, acrylic, lexan, anything like that. You can use clear, which you can get from most any hardware store or you can order special colored or even mirrored acrylic from various sites on the internet. Not sure where you live so I won't link to any site in particular but there are several good ones.

Instead of a clear or solid window, you could also use modders mesh or any other type of mesh like that as well. A black mesh would look quite nice on that case in particular I think. Your neon lights would show through but everything would look kind of subtle as well.

Hope that helped you out and gave you come motivation. Welcome to TBCS! Enjoy your stay, and ask plenty of questions when you need answers, dont be shy. Were all here to help.

Welcome aboard!

Use as many zipties as it takes to make the wires behave. :) Last case I did used something like 50 zip ties.

Just try to hide as many wires as you can, and keep all the excess out of sight. It not only looks better, but can help with airflow and help keep the case cooler. :)

Haha omfg, I hate this, the company I bought this from, used zipties, and I didnt think anything of it to keep them so I cut them.

It's all good.. I picked up a bag of 100 at my local dollar store for.. a dollar. :) They are small and cheap, but work fine for wire management in a PC.

and by the way I live in Central New York State, and modders mesh, did you mean to completly make the side of it mesh?, or just some parts of it, and thank you for all the welcomes :).

I think he meant just use mesh to cover the window, rather than acrylic. Better airflow for sure, but I dont know.. I just "prefer" the look of a plexi window.. thats just me.

:D

I agree with you luke, but I think it would look cool with the mesh, but it would make sense to use plexiglass, the only thing is i'm confused on how you would install the plexiglass or whatever material is used?

jdith135
10-15-2007, 07:34 PM
Like would you put the plexiglass in using some type of glue? or would you screw it in?

jdith135
10-15-2007, 07:38 PM
What would you use to put the plexiglass in? Gorilla Glue?

jdith135
10-15-2007, 07:58 PM
Okay I just called my local lowes and apparently they cut customized peices of Plexiglass, for 7 1/2" x 10" it's only 10 bucks, i'm not sure if that's a good material though, anyone have another type of glass I should use instead?

first welcome to TBCS dude. you could use screws, zip ties, anything that would hold it in for the plexy. imagination is key i guess.

more like a baby yellow python.

Thanks, and how about adhesive tape?

i would use that over anything else with a nice black trim over the cut. use the tape in this film (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpZoE-zj0-k)

10-15-2007, 09:41 PM
dude Blackseven already showed me that!, yeah i'm gonna go get it, or something because I really want it to be somewhat nice, but I dont want that u-channel I mean it's not even worth it. Or is it?

my bad, i didn't read through this. here is a link (http://www.frozencpu.com/products/5096/mol-04/Slim_C-Strip_FanWindow_Molding_-_Black.html?tl=g42c217s338) to frozen cpu for the C trim stuff.

its out of stock. An alternative route is to goto a car store and buy door trim, its exactly the same but it wont be a continuous strip, it will be 2 pieces of 3(or 4?) foot trim.

I dont remember the price, though.

ya i need to find a local store or order some trim for my uncomplete window mod and get this thing finished.

jdith135 (7:55:42 PM): what should I get first
jdith135 (7:55:47 PM): a neon fan

BlackS3ven (4:58:34 PM): trippy lookin' case
BlackS3ven (4:58:37 PM): I just googled it
BlackS3ven (4:58:44 PM): it's hard to tell what it looks like in the pics
jdith135 (7:58:46 PM): yeah
jdith135 (7:58:52 PM): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999061
BlackS3ven (4:59:50 PM): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103023
BlackS3ven (5:00:02 PM): unless you need the 120
jdith135 (8:00:32 PM): I only have one 80mm
jdith135 (8:00:35 PM): in the bottom
jdith135 (8:00:39 PM): and one 120
BlackS3ven (5:00:52 PM): you'r case doesn't have a place for a 120mm
BlackS3ven (5:00:59 PM): from what newegg says
jdith135 (8:01:02 PM): it's right there
jdith135 (8:01:04 PM): on the back
jdith135 (8:01:07 PM): one sec ill show you
BlackS3ven (5:01:24 PM): Oh, I'm looking at the 7700
jdith135 (8:01:22 PM): http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/2386/pict0030kr8.jpg
BlackS3ven (5:01:26 PM): my fault
jdith135 (8:01:25 PM): yeah silly
jdith135 (8:01:28 PM): it's not on newegg
jdith135 (8:01:30 PM): anymore
jdith135 (8:01:35 PM): see the 120mm
jdith135 (8:01:37 PM): in the abck
jdith135 (8:01:42 PM): back
jdith135 (8:01:48 PM): I kinda cleaned it up
jdith135 (8:01:57 PM): it's a little better
BlackS3ven (5:02:14 PM): do those side vents go all the way through?
jdith135 (8:02:20 PM): where?
BlackS3ven (5:02:28 PM): http://www.fcenter.ru/img/article/cases/ASUS_VENTO_3600/58198.jpg
jdith135 (8:02:48 PM): where is it
BlackS3ven (5:02:57 PM): nvm, they do
jdith135 (8:03:06 PM): you mean where those little clear things are
BlackS3ven (5:03:23 PM): like, on the bottom on each side
jdith135 (8:03:27 PM): yeah
jdith135 (8:03:30 PM): whetre the USBS are?
BlackS3ven (5:03:35 PM): I thought they may have been intakes but theyre not
BlackS3ven (5:03:35 PM): ya
jdith135 (8:03:33 PM): where*
jdith135 (8:03:41 PM): it goesall the way through
BlackS3ven (5:03:55 PM): hmm...
BlackS3ven (5:04:13 PM): I think a leds may be pointless for your setup at the moment
BlackS3ven (5:04:26 PM): since it's a closed case
BlackS3ven (5:04:51 PM): Any heat issues with it?
jdith135 (8:04:55 PM): put it this way
jdith135 (8:04:59 PM): right now it's at 30
jdith135 (8:05:05 PM): between 29-30
BlackS3ven (5:05:16 PM): not bad
BlackS3ven (5:05:19 PM): haha
jdith135 (8:05:20 PM): think I need something else
jdith135 (8:05:22 PM): ?
jdith135 (8:05:29 PM): CPU 29
jdith135 (8:05:37 PM): SYS 29
jdith135 (8:05:42 PM): HDD 32
BlackS3ven (5:05:58 PM): that's not too bad
BlackS3ven (5:06:06 PM): my cpu's at 35 right now
jdith135 (8:06:10 PM): what kind of case is it?
jdith135 (8:06:16 PM): TT?
BlackS3ven (5:06:21 PM): yep
jdith135 (8:06:21 PM): cool
jdith135 (8:06:32 PM): I wish I could fix the cords
BlackS3ven (5:06:42 PM): http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/xoxide/tt-armor-case-b-2.jpg
BlackS3ven (5:07:12 PM): There are shorter round IDE cables that you can get
jdith135 (8:07:30 PM): yeah
jdith135 (8:07:35 PM): but like
jdith135 (8:07:47 PM): you know what my prolem is
jdith135 (8:07:53 PM): problem*
jdith135 (8:08:00 PM): i'm chicken **** about my computer
jdith135 (8:08:09 PM): so like I dont even touch it
jdith135 (8:08:15 PM): im worried I may fry something in here
BlackS3ven (5:08:55 PM): that's not good. If you don't feel comfortable working on yours, maybe check your local craigslist ads for free computers, working or not
jdith135 (8:09:24 PM): well i'm still in high school
BlackS3ven (5:09:48 PM): basically, before you start doing anything, make sure it's unplugged, and touch your power supply to ground you
jdith135 (8:09:51 PM): oh yeah
jdith135 (8:09:56 PM): I know that
jdith135 (8:09:58 PM): it's just
jdith135 (8:10:03 PM): I messed up my eMachines
jdith135 (8:10:06 PM): through RAM

jdith135
10-16-2007, 10:44 PM
jdith135 (8:10:13 PM): but im worried im going to fry one of my drives
BlackS3ven (5:10:25 PM): how so?
jdith135 (8:10:23 PM): and theres so many plugs
BlackS3ven (5:10:40 PM): Take a picture before you start disconnecting things
BlackS3ven (5:10:58 PM): or get some masking tape and color code them
jdith135 (8:11:08 PM): yeah
jdith135 (8:11:13 PM): that wouldnt be a bad idea
jdith135 (8:11:25 PM): but im really worried about these power plugs
BlackS3ven (5:11:47 PM): which ones
BlackS3ven (5:11:47 PM): ?
jdith135 (8:12:09 PM): theres alot of them
BlackS3ven (5:12:57 PM): they're maked
BlackS3ven (5:13:07 PM): p1, p2, p3, p4 etc...
jdith135 (8:13:09 PM): no these ones arent
BlackS3ven (5:13:55 PM): well your p1 would be your power to the mainboard
jdith135 (8:14:00 PM): yeah
jdith135 (8:14:04 PM): from the PSU
BlackS3ven (5:14:21 PM): all power cables are from the psu
jdith135 (8:14:20 PM): then P2, P3, P4 etc
jdith135 (8:14:29 PM): well theres like
jdith135 (8:14:37 PM): a blue/white cord here
BlackS3ven (5:14:42 PM): those are all molex connectors
BlackS3ven (5:14:52 PM): ohh, definitely take a picture of that
jdith135 (8:15:04 PM): here ill takea picture
BlackS3ven (5:15:08 PM): motherboards are always marked badly when it comes to the power button cables
jdith135 (8:15:07 PM): and show you
jdith135 (8:16:53 PM): http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/1759/pict0033ne9.jpg
jdith135 (8:17:22 PM): see it
BlackS3ven (5:17:44 PM): that's your power button
jdith135 (8:17:43 PM): I think thats for the 80MM
jdith135 (8:17:44 PM): oh
jdith135 (8:17:46 PM): really?
BlackS3ven (5:18:18 PM): all the small cables that are directly connected to your mobo are for the buttons on the font of your case
jdith135 (8:18:34 PM): do you see my 120MM
jdith135 (8:19:10 PM): in the back there
BlackS3ven (5:19:17 PM): ya

jdith135
10-16-2007, 10:44 PM
jdith135 (8:19:23 PM): okay see the black and red
BlackS3ven (5:19:29 PM): ya
jdith135 (8:19:35 PM): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811999061
jdith135 (8:19:44 PM): with that how does it work?
BlackS3ven (5:19:56 PM): that fan is a case fan
BlackS3ven (5:20:07 PM): that connects to your motherboard.
BlackS3ven (5:20:16 PM): it's the same type of plug as the fan on your heatsink
jdith135 (8:20:22 PM): so if I have a heatsink?
jdith135 (8:20:28 PM): can I use that
jdith135 (8:20:34 PM): like you see my heatsink right
BlackS3ven (5:20:56 PM): You need to keep the fan for your heatsink plugged in
BlackS3ven (5:21:15 PM): but your mobo may have extra plugs on it
BlackS3ven (5:22:05 PM): the normal fan like the one with the black and red cable has a molex connector
jdith135 (8:22:12 PM): whats with the one I just showed you
BlackS3ven (5:22:54 PM): I'm not sure what the plug is called but it's for your motherboard.
BlackS3ven (5:23:07 PM): Any way you can get a picture of your mobo?
jdith135 (8:23:06 PM): so it'll defitnantly worked?
jdith135 (8:23:10 PM): yeah one sec
jdith135 (8:23:44 PM): http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Articles/Sources/Asus_A8N-SLI_Deluxe/Images/photos/3mobo.jpg
jdith135 (8:23:50 PM): thats it
BlackS3ven (5:24:10 PM): Why are you using IDE when you have sata haha
jdith135 (8:24:29 PM): I dont know how to work sata

jdith135
10-16-2007, 10:44 PM
jdith135 (8:24:46 PM): and what should I be using for sata
BlackS3ven (5:25:03 PM): hard drive and cd drives
BlackS3ven (5:25:12 PM): you could get rid of those yellow ide cables
BlackS3ven (5:25:17 PM): clear up a lot of room
BlackS3ven (5:25:26 PM): and speed up your computer
BlackS3ven (5:25:39 PM): sata transfers much faster than IDE
jdith135 (8:25:40 PM): isnt the red cord sata
jdith135 (8:25:48 PM): do you have vent?
BlackS3ven (5:26:02 PM): no
jdith135 (8:26:02 PM): oh alright
BlackS3ven (5:26:12 PM): Ya, I see a sata cable in your case
jdith135 (8:26:14 PM): http://img149.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pict0034pd4.jpg

BlackS3ven (5:26:43 PM): no that's not sata
jdith135 (8:26:43 PM): no I mean
jdith135 (8:26:45 PM): look at that
jdith135 (8:26:50 PM): is there room for that 120mm?
BlackS3ven (5:27:57 PM): ya, give me a sec
jdith135 (8:28:03 PM): okay
jdith135 (8:28:12 PM): also is there room for that other neon
jdith135 (8:28:22 PM): because my sister is about to order them both for me
jdith135 (8:28:26 PM): on my signal
BlackS3ven (5:30:08 PM): you have 2 open plugs for that fan you want
jdith135 (8:30:11 PM): what about the neon

jdith135

BlackS3ven (5:30:17 PM): http://s16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/?action=view&current=3mobo.jpg
jdith135 (8:30:26 PM): oh sweet
jdith135 (8:30:28 PM): and thats open?
BlackS3ven (5:30:47 PM): one of them is taken by your cpu fan
jdith135 (8:30:54 PM): is there more than one?
jdith135 (8:31:20 PM): oh I see one I think
BlackS3ven (5:31:35 PM): there's an open one by your cpu
jdith135 (8:31:34 PM): I see a couple
jdith135 (8:31:36 PM): yeahh
jdith135 (8:31:41 PM): how about the neon
BlackS3ven (5:32:18 PM): do you have a link to the cathode kit you're looking at?
jdith135 (8:32:23 PM): yeah
jdith135 (8:32:28 PM): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16800888038
jdith135 (8:32:30 PM): that?
jdith135 (8:32:58 PM): you see that 120MM?
jdith135 (8:33:05 PM): can I replace the one I have in there
jdith135 (8:33:07 PM): for that one?
BlackS3ven (5:33:22 PM): 1 sec
jdith135 (8:33:36 PM): okay
BlackS3ven (5:35:19 PM): Ok now what?
jdith135 (8:35:19 PM): what
BlackS3ven (5:35:34 PM): can you replace your 120 that's in your case now with the one from newegg?
BlackS3ven (5:35:39 PM): is that what you mean?
jdith135 (8:35:43 PM): yeah
BlackS3ven (5:36:06 PM): yes, but it will plug into the motherboard instead of a molex
jdith135 (8:36:11 PM): alright
jdith135 (8:36:14 PM): how about the neon light
jdith135 (8:36:16 PM): that I sent

jdith135
10-16-2007, 10:45 PM
BlackS3ven (5:36:42 PM): You would plug that into a molex
jdith135 (8:36:45 PM): alright
jdith135 (8:36:47 PM): sounds good
BlackS3ven (5:37:15 PM): make sure you have room in your case to mount it
jdith135 (8:37:43 PM): why cant it just sit here
jdith135 (8:37:46 PM): in there
BlackS3ven (5:37:57 PM): it would look retarded haha
jdith135 (8:37:57 PM): lol
jdith135 (8:37:57 PM): true
jdith135 (8:38:10 PM): can I screw it into the drive bays
jdith135 (8:38:18 PM): or something like that
BlackS3ven (5:38:23 PM): it mounts with tape
jdith135 (8:38:23 PM): alright
jdith135 (8:38:25 PM): even better
BlackS3ven (5:38:45 PM): ya, I'd stick it to the roof of your case
jdith135 (8:38:46 PM): yeah
jdith135 (8:38:52 PM): probably not a bad idea
BlackS3ven (5:38:59 PM): inside of course
jdith135 (8:38:59 PM): tomarrow i'm going with my padre
BlackS3ven (5:39:06 PM): so I guess ceiling would be a better way to put it
jdith135 (8:39:05 PM): and going to do this damn thangggggg
jdith135 (8:39:08 PM): lol
jdith135 (8:39:11 PM): with the window
jdith135 (8:39:15 PM): good ole jigsaw
BlackS3ven (5:40:20 PM): I'd get a can of air too
BlackS3ven (5:40:23 PM): to blow out your case
BlackS3ven (5:40:29 PM): it's a little dusty haha
jdith135 (8:41:05 PM): yeah dude

jdith135

jdith135 (8:41:10 PM): where do I get that
jdith135 (8:41:14 PM): does newegg sell it
BlackS3ven (5:42:08 PM): anywhere sells it really. Walmart, Target, Staples, Comp USA etc
jdith135 (8:42:17 PM): hmm
jdith135 (8:42:19 PM): how much
BlackS3ven (5:42:28 PM): its about 5 bucks a can
BlackS3ven (5:42:31 PM): or so
jdith135 (8:42:29 PM): really?
jdith135 (8:42:30 PM): cheap
jdith135 (8:42:33 PM): I need that too
BlackS3ven (5:42:46 PM): it goes quick but it's better than killing your computer
jdith135 (8:43:05 PM): thats true
jdith135 (8:43:19 PM): yeah but ill just blow out the heatsink
jdith135 (8:43:20 PM): and the PSU
jdith135 (8:43:29 PM): and the inside/outside of the plastic
jdith135 (8:46:15 PM): those are bought
jdith135 (8:46:22 PM): yay friday is the day
jdith135 (8:46:26 PM): you know whats REALLY gonna suck
jdith135 (8:47:41 PM): ?
BlackS3ven (5:48:23 PM): huh?
jdith135 (8:48:32 PM): tomarrow im getting
jdith135 (8:48:34 PM): that thing cut
jdith135 (8:48:36 PM): with my dad
jdith135 (8:48:56 PM): it's gonna suck if something cracks
BlackS3ven (5:49:04 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/asus-vento-blk-4copy.jpg
jdith135 (8:49:43 PM): hold one
jdith135 (8:49:52 PM): yeah it's actually gonna be a little bigger then that
jdith135 (8:50:08 PM): you wont be able to see bays
jdith135 (8:50:15 PM): because i'm not going near the mechanism
BlackS3ven (5:50:22 PM): You can't go any bigger downward
jdith135 (8:50:24 PM): why not
BlackS3ven (5:50:32 PM): it sticks out
BlackS3ven (5:50:46 PM): unless you mold the plexie
BlackS3ven (5:50:49 PM): it wont work
jdith135 (8:50:49 PM): mold?
BlackS3ven (5:50:55 PM): shape it
jdith135 (8:50:55 PM): oh
BlackS3ven (5:50:57 PM): by heating it up
jdith135 (8:50:58 PM): screw that
BlackS3ven (5:51:11 PM): ya, you have to stay in the flat area
jdith135 (8:51:23 PM): think it's still gonna be worth it?
BlackS3ven (5:51:40 PM): I like smaller windows more actually
BlackS3ven (5:52:21 PM): I would probably go even smaller unless you want to see part of your power supply too
jdith135 (8:53:15 PM): hold on
jdith135 (8:53:16 PM): ill show you
jdith135 (8:53:20 PM): ive got some tape
BlackS3ven (5:53:30 PM): ok
BlackS3ven (5:56:38 PM): take a picture from the side of your computer straight on, and I'll do a little photoshopping to show you what it would look like
jdith135 (8:59:59 PM): http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/9799/pict0038oh5.jpg
jdith135 (9:00:21 PM): can you see the top
jdith135 (9:00:42 PM): one sec
jdith135 (9:00:44 PM): ill open it
BlackS3ven (6:01:47 PM): is that where the case starts to bend? where the tape ends?
jdith135 (9:01:54 PM): yeah
jdith135 (9:01:56 PM): on the bottom
jdith135 (9:02:04 PM): http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/6818/pict0038oh5vb8.jpg
BlackS3ven (6:03:36 PM): I'd recommend doing something else with it. You're not going to have enough room on the bottom for the plexie to rest against
jdith135 (9:04:50 PM): wait what
BlackS3ven (6:05:37 PM): you need, on the minimum, a half inch for the plexie and tape to rest against.
jdith135 (9:05:47 PM): wait one sec
jdith135 (9:05:50 PM): did you see the backside
BlackS3ven (6:06:12 PM): no
jdith135 (9:06:35 PM): http://img164.imageshack.us/img164/9724/mechsy4.jpg
jdith135 (9:07:07 PM): I think it doesnt matter as long as I dont hit the hump right?
jdith135 (9:09:58 PM): ?
BlackS3ven (6:10:31 PM): 1 sec
jdith135 (9:10:31 PM): mkay
BlackS3ven (6:11:48 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/1111111.jpg
BlackS3ven (6:11:50 PM): right?
jdith135 (9:11:56 PM): yeah
BlackS3ven (6:12:09 PM): ok, then ya you're fine with that
BlackS3ven (6:12:11 PM): but
BlackS3ven (6:12:20 PM): you're not fine with your window size
BlackS3ven (6:12:26 PM): I recommend this:
BlackS3ven (6:12:28 PM): 1 sec
jdith135 (9:13:06 PM): okay
jdith135 (9:16:23 PM): you think I should move the window up
jdith135 (9:16:23 PM): ?
jdith135 (9:20:54 PM): you there
BlackS3ven (6:21:07 PM): ya
jdith135 (9:21:12 PM): what do you think I should do
BlackS3ven (6:21:23 PM): I recommend a cut similar to this:
BlackS3ven (6:21:32 PM): ...waiting for photobucket
jdith135 (9:21:48 PM): oh okay
BlackS3ven (6:22:00 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/1copy.jpg
BlackS3ven (6:23:46 PM): actually no, I put the bottom too low
BlackS3ven (6:23:51 PM): lemmy fix it
BlackS3ven (6:24:36 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/1copy-1.jpg
BlackS3ven (6:25:06 PM): that way you have a flat area for the bottom of the plexie
BlackS3ven (6:25:42 PM): keep in mind you're going to have plexie about an inch bigger than the window
jdith135 (9:26:17 PM): why should I keep that window
jdith135 (9:26:35 PM): I mean
jdith135 (9:26:37 PM): that vent
BlackS3ven (6:27:33 PM): because the trim on it goes all the way to the bottom
BlackS3ven (6:28:01 PM): If you cut the whole trim out, you wont have a flat area for the plexie... and if you left part of the trim, it would look retarded
BlackS3ven (6:28:27 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/1copy-2.jpg
BlackS3ven (6:28:33 PM): fixed it again
jdith135 (9:28:57 PM): well
jdith135 (9:29:09 PM): like how come I cant cut out that vent
BlackS3ven (6:30:22 PM): The bottom of the vent goes to the very edge before the case starts to bend. You have to stay within the flat surface unless you plan on heating/shaping the plexie
jdith135 (9:30:49 PM): my question is
jdith135 (9:30:53 PM): look at the back of it
jdith135 (9:35:03 PM): see how it doesnt do the curve thing
jdith135 (9:35:04 PM): on the back
jdith135 (9:36:02 PM): so how couldnt it work?
BlackS3ven (6:36:23 PM): So it's not all one piece?
jdith135 (9:36:24 PM): no
jdith135 (9:36:27 PM): there's two peices
jdith135 (9:36:34 PM): an alumninum peice on the back

jdith135
10-16-2007, 10:45 PM
jdith135 (9:36:43 PM): and a plastic peice on the front
jdith135 (9:36:49 PM): do you have teamspeak or vent?
BlackS3ven (6:36:55 PM): then I wouldn't cut it at all cuz you will have a gap
jdith135 (9:36:54 PM): or can you download them?
jdith135 (9:37:20 PM): oh
jdith135 (9:37:24 PM): you do make a good point
jdith135 (9:37:27 PM): I just thought about that
jdith135 (9:38:38 PM): couldnt I just
jdith135 (9:39:11 PM): make two peices of glass?
BlackS3ven (6:39:55 PM): you'd have to cut the black part normal, then the grey part bigger, so you can't see that layer
jdith135 (9:40:08 PM): wait what
BlackS3ven (6:40:33 PM): if that whole buldge is hollow
jdith135 (9:41:12 PM): I hate this case with every inch in me
jdith135 (9:41:12 PM): lol
BlackS3ven (6:42:18 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/hollow.jpg
BlackS3ven (6:42:40 PM): so that's basically what it is from a direct view?
BlackS3ven (6:42:48 PM): grey being the inside of the side panel
jdith135 (9:42:52 PM): I believe so
jdith135 (9:43:02 PM): there might be a small space between the two
BlackS3ven (6:43:54 PM): ok so if you cut too far down
BlackS3ven (6:43:56 PM): it'd look like this
BlackS3ven (6:44:02 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/cant.jpg
BlackS3ven (6:44:05 PM): so you cant do that
jdith135 (9:46:27 PM): yeah
jdith135 (9:46:30 PM): wait
jdith135 (9:46:35 PM): so what im trying to understand
jdith135 (9:46:38 PM): do I need two layers of this
BlackS3ven (6:48:30 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/vnifd.jpg
jdith135 (9:48:30 PM): of plexi'
BlackS3ven (6:48:54 PM): if you didn't cut the inside bigger than the outside, you'd see the grey
BlackS3ven (6:50:06 PM): So I jigsaw will not work with this project unless you pop the black piece off of the gray frame
jdith135 (9:50:25 PM): so wait
jdith135 (9:50:28 PM): help me out here
jdith135 (9:50:50 PM): theres no way I can just cut straight through both
BlackS3ven (6:51:38 PM): 1st of all, you'd need a dremel or drill to get the jigsaw started
jdith135 (9:51:44 PM): yeah
jdith135 (9:51:48 PM): my father has a dremel
BlackS3ven (6:52:21 PM): and to cut the inside bigger, you'd have to separate them otherwise the blade would hit the black
jdith135 (9:52:46 PM): the the aluminum bigger?
BlackS3ven (6:52:55 PM): yes
jdith135 (9:53:38 PM): wait
jdith135 (9:53:43 PM): I dont understand here
jdith135 (9:53:54 PM): so where do I put the glass?
BlackS3ven (6:54:33 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/2-3.jpg
jdith135 (9:55:47 PM): alright so how much bigger does the aluminum have to be
jdith135 (9:56:15 PM): ascompared to plastic
BlackS3ven (6:56:31 PM): about an inch bigger all the way around from the size of the plastic
jdith135 (9:56:45 PM): alright
jdith135 (9:56:49 PM): im gonna have to right this down
jdith135 (9:56:56 PM): write*
jdith135 (9:57:43 PM): okay tell me exactly what I should do
BlackS3ven (6:57:51 PM): You can post our convo in the forums and ask for other suggestions if you'd like.
BlackS3ven (6:58:38 PM): Well I can't tell you exactly because I'm not 100% sure on how the case holds together/measurements etc etc
jdith135 (9:58:45 PM): yeah
BlackS3ven (6:59:45 PM): but the steps I would take would be find something circle... about an inch - inch and a half bigger diameter than the vent on your case.
BlackS3ven (7:00:49 PM): find the center of that, and fit the center with the center of the lid or w/e you'r using to the center of your vent. draw from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock
BlackS3ven (7:01:02 PM): that will be your arch.
BlackS3ven (7:01:07 PM): the rest will be straight lines
jdith135 (10:01:24 PM): so wait
jdith135 (10:01:30 PM): you said
jdith135 (10:01:39 PM): that ALL the way around
jdith135 (10:01:43 PM): the alluminum
jdith135 (10:01:53 PM): needs to be an inch to 1 1/2 inch bigger
BlackS3ven (7:02:14 PM): otherwise you will see the alloy from the outside of the case
BlackS3ven (7:02:28 PM): which you don't want.
jdith135 (10:02:36 PM): yeah
BlackS3ven (7:02:47 PM): that inch will be where you put your tape
jdith135 (10:02:51 PM): wait so like
BlackS3ven (7:02:55 PM): double sided industrial tape
jdith135 (10:02:55 PM): even on the left and right
jdith135 (10:03:04 PM): make it an inch bigger
BlackS3ven (7:03:31 PM): you're going to want to put the tape on each side so yes
jdith135 (10:03:37 PM): okay
BlackS3ven (7:06:04 PM): here
BlackS3ven (7:06:24 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/insideofcase.jpg
BlackS3ven (7:06:37 PM): that would be a view from the inside of the case
BlackS3ven (7:07:00 PM): the gray being the inside metal part
BlackS3ven (7:07:15 PM): the dark part being the black on the outside
BlackS3ven (7:07:25 PM): the greenish color being where the tape would go
BlackS3ven (7:07:34 PM): the redish being the plexie
jdith135 (10:07:47 PM): hmm
jdith135 (10:07:56 PM): this seems like it's going to be more complicating then I thought
jdith135 (10:08:43 PM): because like
jdith135 (10:08:47 PM): to what I understand here
jdith135 (10:08:57 PM): this is what im gonna have to do
jdith135 (10:09:04 PM): measure out the window on the plastic first
jdith135 (10:09:07 PM): THEN
jdith135 (10:09:21 PM): I have to go on the other end
jdith135 (10:09:43 PM): make each end 1 inch bigger
jdith135 (10:09:49 PM): then get those measurements
BlackS3ven (7:10:28 PM): if you or your dad do not know geometry I wouldn't attempt it.
jdith135 (10:10:43 PM): this is going to be a bitch haha
jdith135 (10:11:26 PM): so like
jdith135 (10:11:44 PM): no chance of me cutting down near the curve
BlackS3ven (7:12:23 PM): huh?
BlackS3ven (7:12:29 PM): no
jdith135 (10:12:30 PM): goddamnit.
jdith135 (10:12:31 PM): lol
jdith135 (10:12:37 PM): I HATE THAT VENT!!!!!!!!!!!!

BlackS3ven (7:12:45 PM): haha
BlackS3ven (7:13:11 PM): You can change the mesh on it or w/e the white is made of
BlackS3ven (7:13:15 PM): and put a fan on the other side
jdith135 (10:13:29 PM): im not sure how big that is
jdith135 (10:13:46 PM): actually
jdith135 (10:13:49 PM): to tell you the truth
jdith135 (10:13:52 PM): you cant tell
jdith135 (10:13:52 PM): but
jdith135 (10:13:58 PM): the very bottom of that
jdith135 (10:14:06 PM): is about 1/4 of an inch
jdith135 (10:14:09 PM): away from the curve
BlackS3ven (7:14:13 PM): http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/directron/vento3600r8.jpg
jdith135 (10:14:21 PM): what the hell is that thing
jdith135 (10:14:24 PM): lol
BlackS3ven (7:14:34 PM): goes over the heatsink fan
BlackS3ven (7:14:53 PM): but 90% of the time they don't line up correctly
BlackS3ven (7:15:11 PM): I'd throw a 80mm on it.
jdith135 (10:15:37 PM): im really not feeling it though
BlackS3ven (7:16:18 PM): You can always sell the case and find one more modable although that case does have a lot of potential
BlackS3ven (7:16:57 PM): I'd I had it, I'd probably cut out some slits on the plastic, put plexie behind them and throw a cathode kit inside the hollow area
BlackS3ven (7:17:04 PM): If I had it*
jdith135 (10:17:25 PM): im gonna try to do your idea
jdith135 (10:17:44 PM): it truly looks like I could cut that vent off though
jdith135 (10:17:45 PM): seriously
jdith135 (10:18:01 PM): it's gonna be a tight fit
BlackS3ven (7:18:34 PM): here, I found a good picture of the case
BlackS3ven (7:18:40 PM): lemmy draw some lines really quick
jdith135 (10:18:41 PM): alrighty
BlackS3ven (7:19:13 PM): do you want your psu to show?
jdith135 (10:19:48 PM): doesnt matter to m
jdith135 (10:19:49 PM): me8
jdith135 (10:19:58 PM): as long as my 120MM fan is showing
jdith135 (10:20:06 PM): and as long as I can fit that neon light
BlackS3ven (7:23:59 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/aaa.jpg
jdith135 (10:25:14 PM): yeah but my 120mm still wouldnt show
jdith135 (10:25:15 PM): lol
BlackS3ven (7:26:40 PM): Why do you want your fan to show?
jdith135 (10:27:09 PM): well it'll look alot better then a random arch
jdith135 (10:27:10 PM): lol
jdith135 (10:27:14 PM): goddamn vent
BlackS3ven (7:28:59 PM): http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b5/BlackS3ven/ccc.jpg
jdith135 (10:29:23 PM): the problem goes
jdith135 (10:29:26 PM): is that
jdith135 (10:29:37 PM): I measured it
jdith135 (10:29:48 PM): the 120 MM fan is RIGHT underneath vent
BlackS3ven (7:30:08 PM): lol
BlackS3ven (7:31:05 PM): the point of lighted fans are more for the view from the outside of the case and the glow they put off on the inside
BlackS3ven (7:31:16 PM): they're not really too great to look at by themselves
BlackS3ven (7:32:09 PM): honestly, I wouldn't do the window. The side is just too limited on window size for a simple window.
BlackS3ven (7:32:18 PM): Most people don't like their psu showing
BlackS3ven (7:32:26 PM): the main thing people like to show is there mobo
BlackS3ven (7:32:39 PM): that's really the only thing worth looking at in a case
jdith135 (10:32:50 PM): yeah
BlackS3ven (7:32:55 PM): and with your case, the majority of the mobo is behind the buldge

Need some "U-Channel"

.Maleficus.
10-17-2007, 09:13 PM
Wow. I think you just got a new record with a 12-posts-in-a-row post. I'm not sure that even has a name yet. A dodeca-post maybe?

Anyways, I can also say with some confidence nobody will want to read all that. I got through half of the first post, lost interest, and skipped the 11 following. What I got from picking words out of the last few; you looked at fans, cold cathodes, and have a problem with a vent. Elaborate, without taking 12 posts. Where is the problem? Can you point it out with a picture?

The window looks good. Did you cut that yourself? If you did, give yourself a pat on the back. It's a great start. And I've never used U-channel, so I'd like to know how the experience goes.

BTW, this wasn't meant to be rude or anything. The first part is all in good fun. The second is for my (and others too) sanity. Summaries are good; 11 posts of a personal conversation generally aren't (in my book at least).

omg man! 12 posts! there is a edit button

i agree with mal though, i stopped reading after the 3rd post or so.

nice window mod though +rep.

I'm pretty sure it's because the convo was too long for a single post. Probably my fault because I suggested he posted it here to eliminate repeated suggestions. I didn't realize the convo was 2 hours long haha...

10-17-2007, 10:44 PM
lol I suck at making posts sorry haha, but my father and I cut each part, I cut the plastic, he cut the alluminum, and basically it was pretty well cut I thought im probably going to get u-channel and my neon stuff is on it's way going to be at my house tomorrow supposedly so i'll post pics of that, but I was asking greco101 about where the fan would go on the motherboard and the neon would go because I always get confused with this stuff, sorry about the big ass posts lol.

I have a +rep for you if you can tell me what the main point of it was without me having to read all of it!

He was worried he may fry his computer if he took it apart and put it back together. I recommended color coordinating with tape. He had a window mod idea that wouldn't work. I explained to him why it wouldn't work and suggested different ideas that would work based on what I could see from pictures he sent me. I made simple pictures in PS to help get ideas across.

END. haha.

10-18-2007, 10:07 PM
Yeah greco is right, and psy, yeah i'm not a big fan of it as well, I may just buy a new case it'll be easier and i'll be happier with it, you know?

10-22-2007, 06:41 PM
Monday is here, and I didnt really think it would look as ****ty as it does, I guess the thing is an ADDON not really a neon in itself, the fan is quiet though and better than the Asus one as my temp display says.

hey jdith 135,

dont give up so easily there are many ways to fix what you got if you dont like how it turned out. i have been getting into modding cases for a bit now and have done a few already. i use the dremel as you have but i do not use plexiglass as it scratches easily. i use lexan. its much stronger and it doesnt scratch easily. plus if you do scratch it you can use a buffer on the dremel to fix it (which you cannot do with plexiglass) lexan is like plexiglass and cuts the same, it just isnt as cheap.

i just bought a vento and am about to mod it. though im a little lazy in getting all my parts in it right now. im sure i can come up with a design that will nice forhte case. my goal is the sell the case online . so the opening has to be right. i see that someone has sent you to a moulding place to get moulding for your case after then cut. my only question is ,how do you make that little thin moulding cover the WHOLE area that is the thick door? its too think and i think another means of covering the holes edging is needed. ill be lookign into it this week as i will mod this case to sell. stand by for more soon.
