First you have to open the drive so the tray is sticking out. Then you take off the front piece by usually pushing it upward. You want to hold on to the tray though so you dont snap it.

Once you get that piece off then you can remove the rest of the bezel. To do that, there will usually be like 5 or 6 tabs that you just have to pop off the metal frame. There are usually 2 on each side, and one on the top and/or bottom.

Doing that you should have it off in no time. The top part is hard to explain, I hope you know what I mean. Just open up the drive (if its plugged in hit the eject button, if not there is a little hole in the front of the drive. Stick a needle or something like that in, and you can manually open the drive by doing so). Look at the front piece...you can see which way it wants to slide off. Sometimes you have to push outward on it a little as well.

Just don't try to force the outside bezel off without getting that eject drive portion of it off or you might snap something. Most drives you have to take that off before you remove the rest of the bezel.

Hope that helped. If you need any more just let me know. I know, its hard to explain without being there to show you.:glasses:

^ +rep for the good answer!

i second the above, if you can find a scrap or broken cd drive and practice on that if your really worried about breaking your good one.

yer... i would really want to, not sure if its possible, to make the whole drive clear acrylic, similar to a HDD where you take the top off, make the whole casing acrylic

Well, the cover for sure could be replaced with Acrylic, as could the front.

The tray *COULD* be changed to acrylic, but the amount of fabrication required and precision required would be so not worth it.
