Me and someone I know have both been thinking about buying a new 24"+ monitor with a resolution of 1920x1200. What I'm looking for is something with specs that are far better than most 24" monitors out there. Price isn't too much of a problem as long as it's under $1000 (I got some massive cash to spend right about now).
Basics include:
Greater than 1000:1 Contrast Ratio (Not Dynamic)
Less than or equal to 5ms response time
Lots of inputs (VGA, DVI, HDMI and/or Component)
Thanks in advance,
Indybird

If you have toooo much cash you can throw some this way *nudge* *nudge*

I really like the SyncMaster line.. especially the bigger ones that get rid of that silver bar at the bottom. This was the best one I could find </= 5ms.

This was the best 24" I could find but it's 6ms and some people say it's actually too bright.
Or you can go with this for a little over 1000. :oP

What about getting a 1080p TV to use as a monitor? Samsungs and Sharps are my favorites.. :D

I was thinking that too but I don't think any lcd tv's have a 5ms or lower RT unless you go with a plasma and plasmas + gaming = burn in = :(

Thanks, but I already checked newegg and they definitely didn't have anything fitting my requirements.

I would do this but all of the TVs with 1080p, decent contrast and such are way too expensive.
The reason I have so much money to spend is that not only have I started a local computer repair business thats been getting me lots-o-cash, but I also got a 2 year scholarship to the college I've been wanting to go to, so I don't have to save up for that anymore.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention above, that I absolutely love glossy screens, and If you could find a nice-spec'd one w/ a glossy screen that would be perfect!

Thanks, but that 3000:1 contrast is Dynamic, which isn't really 3000:1. Second, it doesn't really have any special inputs.

I would recommend one of these monitors listed in this review. I've heard a whole lot about the Dell and it has won many consumer awards. I don't know about the samsung myself, because I've never seen one in person, but it looks like it is just as good.

Thats pretty nice, but I'm pretty sure I want something with more than 1000:1 Contrast. Though that is very nice, I'm looking for some even nicer...

Honestly Indy, your best going to a place where you can look at the monitors and maybe see some games or videos on them.
Unless something changed in the last couple months I've been out of the loop, there isn't any real standard for contrast ratio or response time between companies. Generally you can trust the higher number compared to lower number in the same companies, but you can't really do the same once you start comparing different brands. Many of them don't measure it exactly the same.
Honestly your better looking at some reviews and looking at it yourself. It's like graphics cards, just because it might have better looking specs doesn't mean it will perform better.
The monitor could have the best specs in the world and yet have a critical backlight bleeding issue that would make it visually worse than a monitor with lower specs.
Monitors are just something I have to be hands on with. Its just me. I wouldn't order a monitor from a website unless I could actually look at it somewhere first. But thats just me. Good luck. Several of those monitors above are beautiful monitors. They were what I would have recommended.

Why do you need over 1000:1 contrast? Are you trying to adequately light a room? My 17" monitor with a 600:1 or 700:1 is sometimes too bright and sitting in my basement will light half of it enough to see...

I understand what you're saying but contrast ratios are a good show of the monitor's color reproduction (As far as I've seen). I've done a lot of research to recommend TVs for friends and family, and based on reviews and first-hand accounts, higher contrast ratio's make a huge difference, even if the companies may all measure different.

One of the TVs I recommended to one of my friends was a 32" 1080P Sharp with a 2000:1 Natural Contrast ratio (and a 10,000:1 Dynamic), and I could not believe the difference in darks and lights. After I bought my 20" Sceptre Monitor w/ 1000:1 Contrast, I started to want even better looking displays, though this one is still very nice. Though 1000:1 is very good, I have the capability to spend a lot of money on a new monitor and would like to get something even better.
By the way, contrast isn't exactly just brightness, it's darkness also and that matters.
I was kinda thinking about getting that Sharp but the response times won't be as good and I kinda want a dedicated computer monitor.
Thanks,

What about this? At 1000:1 (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3296559&body=MAIN#detailspecs)

Though the contrast ratio is only 1000:1 Contrast (Boy I sure say contrast a lot...), that is a very nice monitor. I'll keep that in mind...

Other then that one (that I could find), I don't think they have anything higher then 1000:1 in that size

I'm a big fan of Sceptre, and here is a monitor with a 4000:1 contrast ratio. Enjoy!

Nice monitor! Missing his other connectors though.... I would take it if I had the money though.
If the one above is anything like this one (http://www.cheapstingybargains.com/38428/sceptre-dclcd-dcl24a-24-widescreen-lcd-monitor-360-shipping/), then it is a Dynamic Contrast. I honestly don't think you are going to find what you want in that size. What about a little bigger monitor?
**update**
If you are going all out, what about a 32" Sharp? 2000:1 Standard, 10000:1 Dynamic, 3-HDMI, 2-Component, 1-DVI On sale for 1239.93 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-images/B000NKAYWG/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_all/002-4790754-6837653?ie=UTF8&s=electronics#gallery)

Heres my final decision: Hanns-G 28" LCD (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824254026&Tpk=Hanns-G)
My friend just got it for his new build. I am absolutely blown away by this monitor. Aside from the fact that it is MASSIVE, it has good color and good contrast. Though the contrast technically isn't even 1000:1, I think it looks just about that good. By this point I also realized that I really only need two inputs DVI/HDMI for my computer and VGA for an Xbox 360.
Don't worry guys, when I get all of my money assembled, you will all get a nice review.
