Ok, guys...I'm thinking about a mod but the linch pin of the whole thing is that the most the guts (you know Mobo,HDD....etc) can weigh is 3Lbs total. But I want it to be useable (lets saw capable of being a BF2 16 player server...Not too over the top).....The small side of pc's is new to me I normaly build servers (you know mod an old bank ATM, or build a life size R2)my little box is a full tower server case.

Scarab, CrimsonSky....I made mention Of this Mod @ MML4, after looking around here, well I think I want to try and pull it off. So chime in let me know what you think.

....OHHHHH...

Helium, and lots of it. Or you can go with Hydrogen,I know a guy who knows a gas station that sells it.

1st thing that came to mind was seeing how much weight something like this could hold.

then I started thinking... needs

7200 and use the CF card to hold a Wifi (compactflash card).

use that to control it as it flys around the house via a wireless network.

Using a notebook DVD and HD would get you most of the way there. You can buy adaptors on eBay for cheap (generally in this section (http://computers.listings.ebay.com/Cables-Adapter-Cards_IDE_W0QQfclZ3QQfromZR11QQsacatZ41994QQsocmdZ ListingItemList)). Pioneer DVR-K05 (http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=AA35521) slot-loading notebook DVD burners aren't too expensive. Stick with Seagate and Hitachi 2.5" HDs.

A mini-ATX 939-pin motherboard with integrated video (ATI's Radeon 200 IGP is surprisingly good, enough to play UT2004 Demo at 800x600 res smoothly) is probably the way to go. Aluminum heatsinks aren't terribly heavy. If you need a dedicated video card, fanless GeForce 6200 cards are pretty decent and very low power.

I'm assuming your 3 pound limit doesn't include the power supply of course. I'm curious as to how you're going to handle that?

Well, OK, maybe a VIA mini-ITX (http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=60) board would be more sane. Or an AMD Geode NX board (basically a very low voltage Athlon XP), if you can find one. An undervolted Athlon 64 is plausible though, if you can power it. My notebook can do 1.6GHz at 1V core.

Stretch,

I'm not Planing on useing a optical drive (once I get the os loaded I'll disconnect it.....That's what the network's for!)

By the way 1000 cubic feet of Helium lifts about 60 lbs (that is with a safety margin and factoring in temp range)

So a 13'x7' will lift about 3.5lbs (that is after taking into count the weight of the envolope !)

The Nano-ITX board from Via....or the Geiode from AMD does look like the best bet. If I add a Laptop HDD and a CF 802.11x network card......Now to squeeze in a 12Volt power supply for the DC to DC converter (or mayber I'll run 12V up the teather line) ............More to think about.
