Now that the 2 are about the same price, i was wondering which would be the best to get? Dont take into consideration of unlocking pipes, i just want to know if it was the same price, which would you get?

That's a toughy. Tell you what, if you are considering unlocking pipes, then get the 6800, if not, the 6600GT is still clocked really high 500/1000.

but what if the pipes dont unlock? Am i still gonna get a better card than the 6600gt or will i be disapointed?

i have 6600gts in sli. I did a ton of researcha nd if you want the best value for your dollar you want to get a 6600gt i waste my money doing SLI but i just wanted to beat my friends 6800. But in all the research i did the best value for you money is the 6600gt if you want to do a bit better you could prolly spend a little more money for the new dual core 6600 which i believe is made by msi but could be mistaken. 6600gt runs all the games just fine sli i get 100+fps in cs:s my avg in the video stress test with everything high was 140fps. I heard the lowest anyone has seen a 6600gt drop is to 30fps with everything on full. And considering movies etc run at 28fps in reality (or so ive heard) you're not going to see any lag.

i have agp so dual cores and sli is not an option, and the 6800 is the same price. Im just wondering which is better.

Check out these (http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,1697,1780531,00.asp) benchmarks. You can read the whole article if you want or just check out this page which shows the bang for the buck. The 6600gt appears to be better value but there are several different 6800s to choose from which might be cheaper where you get them from. If I were you I would try and get a PCI-E mobo, but I know that can be hard when funds are low. But should you get PCI-E I cannot recommend the PCI-E 6600gt highly enough.

6600 is the lower end version and since your going with AGP. I would look at the 6800 for the added features.

its also Gigabite that has the Dual SLI video cards built into one card. (Not Dual cores).

I was kindof curious as to how they ahd already developed dual core GPUs when they just released the first dual core cpus a few weeks ago.

He is also using a higher end machine that you would typical use.

I spend 20% of my day using a IBM regatta P690 type system and it has a total of 16 Processors (or 8 chips / 2 MCM ) I also use an older (60% of my day) M80 with 6 processors.

Dual core systems are stating to come to Intel and AMD.

If you haven't bought already, go with an x800GT if you can find one in AGP. It's about the same price ($150US) as a 6600GT, but with 256mb memory and it's based on the x850XT PE (R480 or something like that) core.

First post, btw ;D

nVidia owns ATI.....

in their high end models yes. But ATI you get more bang for your buck. Their cards are cheaper when compared to the same quality card of nvidia. Yes I know they don't have SLI or "Crossfire" but that does not make their cards worse.

I'm an nVidia guy too =( when i found out about the x800GT i almost cried... but, for the same price, it gets better fps (even in Doom 3 O_O)

I actually have a 6600GT and I love it. But the x800GT performs better, so :(

And hobo, before the x800GT, the 6600GT was the best bang-for-buck at the $150-$200 price point. And the 6200 is better than the x300. And the 7800GTX owns the pants off of the x850XTPE. Plus it's nVidia.

YEA, there's only one hot chick that ATI advertises... Look at how many nVidia has. Nalu, the two fairy twins... thats 3 times as many right there... :D ;)
