i remember when i went to the microcenter, it was funny. im only 12, and the guy thought that it was my dad coming to talk to him. then i amaze him with all of my hardware knowledge. then my dad asked him to guess my age. he said 9. lol. thats how young i really look :)
also armadilloben, for this reason u problably wouldnt notice me. youd never thin of a 12 year old to know about computers. =)

I had a friend who built a computer in 4th grade, which is 10. Tybrenis here built his when he was like, 11 I think. I don't remember, it could have been younger.
You'd be amazed at the amount of 10, 11, and 12 year old members we have. It was (and maybe still is) the majority. There was a poll done about it but I couldn't be arsed to look for it. The majority of kids today know WAY more about computers than their parents ever will (unless Airbozo is your dad :D).
I'll hopefully be getting my A+ cert here pretty soon, and I'm 15. There was another member who got got their A+ cert at a pretty young age. Everybody here knows about computers dude ;). I'm not trying to make you feel bad or anything, but there are a lot of computer savvy kids around now.

Yep, Ben is really the reason all this started happening. Well, one other member too who hasn't showed up in a while... I really wish I had a Microcenter around here... I could use a good $250 gift card.

Ya, I went to my local Microcenter and asked if they did any mod competitions and they said "NOPE". They said only the new store gets to because its new and purdy. Needless to say I was pretty dissapointed. The cambridge, mass store is the only one any where near me and they don't do anything like that. Sucks. Wish it was a company wide thing. I spend so much money at microcenter they could do something fun for once.

As all the stores change over to the new format, I'm sure they will start holding MOD contests, but it will be some time before that happens.

New Format? I thought my local MC looked pretty nice as it is. What sort of remodel are the stores doing? (really just curious)

If you go to the store locations link of our web site and click on the Paterson/North Jersey link you will see pictures of what our store looks like. This is the new format.

I hope so. The guys who work there thought modding competitions would be cool, something different, something fun. But most of them told me that it didn't look like they were going to be having anything like that. They said you guys just got special treatment because it was a new store :lick:. Hope to see some fun stuff up here at the Cambridge, MA store.
On the overclocking thing, I recently hit 3.7Ghz on my e6300(1.86Ghz stock). A full 100% overclock. I was soooo happy. Booted into windows and everything. CPU only tests were flying wicked fast. But alas good things must come to an end on a budget. My memory wasn't very stable at anything past 475mhz so thats why I am running fully stable at 3.325Ghz with 475mhz fsb and ddr2 800 @ 950. If I get faster memory I am confident this chip would hit 4.0ghz without a sweat. It was cranking at 3.7ghz on the cpu only tests for over an hour.
That was on water though. Not sure what it would do on air. Now that its on water I dont feel like tearing it apart to check air performance though.

i have a arctic cooler freezer 7 pro with a 250mm fan blowing air on the motherboard and a 80mm exhaust near the arctic cooler. idle is about 30-32C if i have fans full blast i can get to 27C idle.
i would push the cpu farther but it just doesn't want to go, i've tried 20 different ways but it either doesn't post or freezes in the windows splash screen.
